In many Eastern Block countries things are still they were in western countries 50 or 60 years ago. The men are the providers and women are dependent on them for a roof over their heads and are willing to be in situations that may not make them happy in a relationship, but provide them security.

Western women no longer need to depend on a man for that security and so aren´t trapped in situations that make them unhappy. Now men are expected to be more a part of things within the family, they have to do more than provide a paycheck, and when a man isn´t willing to put more then that into the relationship... he often finds himself alone.

Absolutely... but does it matter why they like coffee? No, that is not going to have a bearing on having a relationship with that person...whereas the example I gave does.

Woman A is probably going to be an independent type person who doesn´t really care what the general population thinks.

Woman B is probably going to be someone who is quite insecure and needs a lot of support and nurturing.

Woman C is probably someone who knows what she wants and is quite ruthless about getting it.

Again you have one action that you could generalize about, but the reality is you have 3 very different women... and that does have a lot to do with having a relationship.

No... I´m just going to be a hell of a lot more careful in choosing the next one... I´ve been divorced for 25 years... I´m not rushing into anything...

... and no, a person doesn´t change... they may grow, some behaviours may change, but who that person is at their core, their values and strenghts or weakness´s remain the same. This is often the cause of divorce... when one person believes they can change a person and then realizes they can´t.

There is nothing pathetic or contradictory in what I said. People are individuals and as soon as you start to generalize you will never find the truth of who a person actually is. You can observe the same behaviour in several different people...that behaviour is not who a person is... the cause of that behaviour can be very different for all of those people and to generalize that all of those people are the same... is what would be pathetic.

Ruthless or realistic? My ex would have liked to keep the marriage going and wanted to try for a reconciliation... I knew what we had wasn´t a relationship that I would ever be happy with and while you can change some basic behaviours you can´t change who a person is at their core. I had lost all respect for my ex husband and without respect... love was never going to be an option.

I haven´t read any studies or statistics.... but my thoughts would be that because most women now have careers and make a living for themselves, they are less willing to put up with an undesirable relationship in order to have security.

I love having a good debate and am usually quite attracted to a man who can have a good debate with me... when problems arise is when someone no longer gives you a serious reply and resorts to trivializing or putting you down because you have a different opinion. Even then it´s not enough to breed hatred...just contempt.

There is no game involved, insulting or otherwise. I´m sure that I have experienced just as many bad dates and male game players as you guys have experienced with women. The big difference is that I don´t tar all men with the same brush, nor do I sit around complaining about how all men don´t appreciate a good woman.... blah, blah, blah. As far as a comfort zone goes... I´ve spent so much time outside my comfort zone, I no longer have one.

Yes, older women who have been divorced and raised their kids do go through a period of enjoying their freedom... but that only lasts for a while and then they are quite happy to share that freedom with a partner.

I´m through with sitting at home and have a very active social life and enjoy traveling and trying new things... but it would be nice to have a partner to share that with.

Perhaps if you read the post I was responding to you would have a bit more knowledge in your response. You can be sure I am looking for one of the "other" men to have a relationship with as I can´t abide whiners and cry baby´s.

I really don´t care what your reasons are... you don´t know every woman in the world or even 1% of the women in the world. I had a relationship like this once... that´s why I know it´s possible, but not with men as bitter and hostile about women as most of you on this thread seem to be.

Summer... you know there is a huge difference between someone we love making a suggestion or letting you know their preferences... which we then have a choice to honour or not...then someone making choices for you and controlling by force or intimidation that which we do.

I don´t think anyone would describe the book as "heinous" just the use that it is often put to. As literature it has some of the most beautiful passages ever written... and that is the way I view the book... as literature and should be referenced when being quoted.

When my daughter was in high school she had two best friends... they basicly became my adopted daughters spending 3 or 4 nights a week in my home. One of the girls had gone to a college introductory class and she and 3 friends were driving home from it. While on the highway a car changing lanes struck their car, putting it out of control... they spun out to the side of the road where a van that had broken down earlier that day was parked.

My daughters friend and one other child died the other two were severly injured. It´s horrible and I just remember going over and over in my head... if there had been anything different the outcome would have been different... if they had stopped a few seconds to talk to a friend, if the car had taken a few seconds longer to start... something that would have changed anything by just a few seconds and either the first car wouldn´t have hit them or they wouldn´t have crashed into the van... there was miles and miles of road and only ten feet of space that the van occupied....

It would have been so much easier to have a higher power to rant at, to blame... but the sad reality is that it just happened that way... the same goes for those who come out of horrible situations unscathed... it just happened that way.

Crepe Myrtle is a beautiful tree and comes in a dwarf variety that only grows 3 to 5 feet... all the way up to the large variety which grows to 20 feet. It´s a flowering tree... that starts blooming in the spring and has flowers all the way through summer and comes in colors from white, pale pink, deep pink, lavender, purple and red. A really beautiful tree.

hiya Trish! Actually I´m in a shattered state today... Had a Chirstmas party yesterday that started at 3 in the afternoon and was supposed to finish at 8pm with all of us going to a club to hear a band... all of a sudden it was midnight... and everytime someone got a call from a friend who wasn´t here... my response was "get off the phone and get over here"... the party grew... We eventually made it to the club and I just got home a couple of hours ago... I wish I had organized a cleaner...

Morning Owen and Card It was funny in highschool... all my boyfriends were over 6´ and my tall girlfriends would get sooooo pissed off at me for stealing the tall guys when I was short enough to date any of the guys...

I´m only 5´3" as well and have dated men from 5´6" to 6´7".... I don´t really have a preference... and it really doesn´t matter once you´re horizontal.....
