I´m of two minds on this... I love cultural diversity and hate to see that lost in the melding process... it´s one of the things I love about living in Europe and really hope that the EU doesn´t change it.
When I lived in the States I had a lot of ethnic friends and loved going to their homes for dinner, experiencing their traditions re: weddings, holidays etc.... I would hate to see people loose their heritage in the process of becoming an American.
At the same time... I do believe that to become a citizen you should be able to read and write in the native language and reduce the cost of printing all govt documents and paperwork in 20 different languages... and respect the laws of the country you live in.
Hmmmmmm I thought they were trying to change that whole "melting pot" idea to a "salad"... where each ingredient maintains it´s individuality but when mixed together creates something beyond each ingredient...
yes... I´m being a little tongue in cheek here but I believe this is the new "politically correct" version....
Cool! I loved the book and would like to hear about your experiences! I have to say that my 3 years of travel opened my eyes and gave me an education unlike anything I could have had in school, I love cultural diversity and enjoy learning about others traditions and customs... what appears to be strange can often have a great deal of meaning.
I´ll be getting room close to the airport as my flight is at 8am the next day... who ever has knowledge of Philadelphia can maybe suggest a restaurant and maybe a place to hear some music in the city?
Until the largest portion of Government and taxes is brought back down to a local or state level, there will be no accountability or control given to the general population...
It´s been proven that the "trickle down" theory in Government doesn´t work. Rich areas stay rich and poor areas stay poor and a huge percentage of money just disappears on it´s way back down. Tax money should stay on a local level with a percentage paid up for military etc that is on a federal level... Only then will people be able to see where their tax money goes.
I get into Philadelphia about 3:30 in the afternoon, by the time I get through customs and check into a hotel and get cleaned up should be about 5... after that I´m up for exploring, going for an "unvalentines" dinner and a couple of drinks, whatever! I fly out at 8am the next morning for Hawaii.
So anyone who wants to have a CS Valentines in Philadelphia.... it would be better then sitting home!
Well... since I haven´t been to bed yet... today will probably be spent sleeping, out with friends saturday night and then a girly holiday party on sunday.

It´s this mindset that creates so many problems... elected politicians are not in office to make decisions for the people... they are supposed to be there to represent the decisions made by the people.
I´m fed up with the whole thing... the auto industry is hand and hand with the oil companies. They lobby against affordable public transportation, they continue to build engines that are designed to burn a certain amount of fuel to keep profits up rather then develop truly fuel efficient engines... city planning continues to create living areas a substantial distance from where the jobs are making it necessary to use additional fuel getting to and from the work place...
I recommend everyone read the book Gridlock by Ben Elton.
When you have companies that consistently produce an obsolete and inferior product at a higher cost you can throw all the money you want at it but the end result will still be the same... this is not the first time the auto industry has needed financial assistance and if good money continues to be thrown after bad it won´t be the last time either.
How do you explain to the mom and pop operations going under, not due to poor business management, but due to the financial crisis big business and government have created... that they´re going to lose their business and maybe there home and retirement but the ones who have caused the problems are going to get a free ride?
NO! UAW workers earn $75 an hour in wages and benefits--almost triple the earnings of the average private sector worker. Detroit autoworkers have substantially more health, retirement, and paid time off benefits than most Americans. These benefits, and a JOBS bank that pays UAW workers nearly full wages to not work, have been a major force driving the Detroit automakers' current fiscal woes. Consequently, Congress should not force all Americans to pay for high wages and benefits for UAW workers.
Also the majority of these jobs require no more education then a high school diploma, so it´s not as if employees are paying back tens of thousands of dollars in higher education costs and 4 or 5 years of their time becoming trained and educated. How do they justify these types of wages?
On top of the that UAW is still producing automobiles that are lower quality and higher priced then foreign auto manufacturers. It´s time for them to put their own house in order, improve quality, trim down costs and wages and take responsibility for their incompetence.
Back in August I TP´d my friends jeep cherokee on his birthday... I think it was the first time anyone had seen that here in Ibiza... I hadn´t done anything like that since highschool... 8 double rolls, my girlfriend and I were in tears while we were doing it! It´s fun acting like a kid sometimes!
I miss girly sleepovers... we always caused so much trouble, I remember calling the radio station one night to request a song and wound up talking to the DJ... again pretending to be older and invited him over when he got off work for a party.... at the house next door He actually showed up!!
OMG... My girlfriend and I used to cause sooooo much trouble on the CB... we´de pretend like we were older and make dates to hook up with guys and then watch for them to show up... we were very, very bad.
It was funny when I first moved to Ibiza...I´d be on the beach going through contortions moving my straps around so I wouldn´t get tan lines, then I noticed that almost no women had tops on... and that was it for me!
