RE: If you escaped near death 6 times

Sounds like luck to me.

Brains would prevent you from allowing somebody with a knife to be 2mm from your throat.

RE: Travel by bus ... would ya ... could ya ... should ya

The Green Tortise runs from San Diego to Seattle.

It looks like a boat on the inside. At night the seats turn into beds; and you can stow your bicycle on the roof.

They take votes on where you stop for food. They have a real nice camp in the woods of Oregon, by a river, where they serve a real nice pancake breakfast.

Best of all, the people who take that bus aren't anything like the people you'll meet on a Greyhound.

The Tortise costs less than the Greyhound too!

The Green Tortise also goes to Mexico.

For a trip on the West Coast of America, take the Green Tortise.

An award isn't the same as a reward.

Trophys, medals, ribbons, and fancy letters are awards.

On CS, an emoticon can be an award.

I nominate Pedro for the doh award...

RE: Why do Australian aboriginal peeps have blonde hair?

Melenesians have blond hair and blue eyes, with black skin.

I believe that comes from the high percentage of Denisovian DNA they have.

RE: Using sign language.............

In Hawaii everybody uses the "shaka."

Shakas are a fist with the pinky and thumb left open, like the letter "Y" in regular English sign language.

Like our word "Dakine," shakas can mean just about anything.

Hi, bye, I love you, do you have something for me?

It can be used from so far away that facial expressions aren't necessary for understanding the hand signal.

Like our word "dakine," it's a sign that requires a degree of mind reading to comprehend it in every possible way it can be used.

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

My friend Gary Gardner spent most of his life in prison, and stabbed lots of people; but when he got old he just carried a small "gentleman's" pen knife.

A man punched him in the face. By the time he pulled his hand back, Gary cut it twice.

The guy who hit Gary, and was in much better shape than the old junkie-wino ran away.

Gary told me about stabbing a man in prison, with a lawnmower blade, and the way the curved blade turned his hand as it went through the guy.

He told me that it's better to cut a man, than it is to stab him; because, when you cut a man he sees the blood; but he can't tell how bad he's hurt, and loses the will to fight: but if you stab a man, he might just think you punched him, and keep fighting till he dies.

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

The problem with using guns and knives is...

They put you in a place where you really need a gun or a knife.

I used to carry Bowie knives and bayonets; but that tended to get me stopped, searched, and jailed.

I think I had six felony knife possessions before I turned 18.

I never did time for a knife; but I had to go to court a bunch of times, and since I was under 18, and homeless, I had to pay a man to pretend to be my dad to get me out of jail, and show up at court everytime I was arrested.

My little brother is fast to pull a knife, he cut so many people, his conditions for parole didn't allow him to own a box cutter! but, that was mostly because he stabbed a man in prison.

Well... he carried a blade anyway; and now he's doing 25 years in prison, for killing a man, that attacked him.

He should get out, by the time his daughter turns 21.

The second time I got shot, I was hitch-hiking; and I could see the gun wrcapped in a sheet, in the middle guy's lap.

Him and the driver wanted to rob me.

I knew I could pull my knife with my right hand, grab the gun with my left hand, pushing it away, and cut his throat, then get the driver...

But, I knew I couldn't stand in front of God and tell him that I killed two men, to keep them from robbing me for 700 hits of LSD; so, I talked real slow to make the driver slow down, and waited till we crossed a bridge where people were camping, opened the door yelling help, and jumped out of the truck.

I've pulled my share of knives, machetes, bats, and a piece of metal; but I only cut one man, when I was 16, to make him take his hand off of me; but in my old age, as I see death is inevitable, I'd rather die than kill anybody.

I do carry a cane; but the only time I ever hit anybody with it, he was stalking me, right behind me, and all three times I changed directions, he did too.

Then he ran up behind me and yelled. I hit him with my cane; and he threatened me with the cops: which made it seem important that I call the cops on him first.

The big difference in your choice of weapons is...

When you hit somebody with your cane (unless you beat them half to death), the cops aren't likely to charge you with a crime.

But if you just threaten to pull a knife or gun on somebody, even if you don't use them, you're going to jail.

RE: Are you on drugs?

Oh yeah!

I almost forgot...

The last time we talked was on Pedro's "Bipolar thread;" and you came out as bipolar.

It was your other personality that said this on page 1!

RE: Are you on drugs?

I didn't tell anybody about my pharmaceutical drug use to get approval from you, or compare myself with less fortunate people.

I told my personal story, to help people who are being prescribed opiates, without getting the information that could save their lives!

This is just children in the US who were born addicted to opioid.

This study doesn't include children who were born addicted in other nations, or born addicted to ice, or cocaine, etc.

RE: Are you on drugs?

Hopefully I can help somebody by writing this...

In 2004 I was a world class athlete, with less than 1,000 miles to go, to make the longest solo canoe trip, and the plans and ability to skunk that record.

A car I was in flipped doing 70 mph, and threw me through the window, making me too disabled to paddle a canoe anymore in a matter of seconds.

My doctor had me on 150 dilaudids, 150 oxycodones, 90 valiums, and all the morphine and medical marijuana I wanted every month.

I only have a couple vertebrae that aren't damaged.

My x-rays qualify me for anything I want.

Most days I get out of bed, begin with 30 mgs.of oxycodone; but, I quit the dilaudids and morphine, and cut down on the oxycodones, and everything else.

After 13 years of being prescribed very strong opiates, I don't have a physical addiction to anything.

The reason why I can use pain pills without being addicted to them is...

I spend a lot of time in pain.

I never need to feel pain; but I know, if never feel pain, and I use all the drugs I get-- I'll just need more.

My tolerance would just go up.
I'd feel pain unless I got more drugs; and I'd have a habit with horrible complications on top of all my other problems.

I do drug fasts regularly.

I stay in bed, without using any pills for days at a time.

I practice yoga, pranayama, meditation, and living in my mind.

I don't get prescribed too much drugs; if I was physically active everyday, I could easily use twice as much drugs as the doctor gives me.

Because I fast regularly, and deal with as much pain as I can take: the worst side effects I ever get are restless leg syndrome, and diarrhea; and those only last a few days.

I'm thankful for the opiates I get, and the doctor who prescribes them. I need them to be active, to go shopping for food, and to do yard work, or clean my house; but if I used all the drugs I get prescribed for me, without spending days at a time in pain... I'd be a junkie.

Unfortunately, I didn't learn anything I just wrote, from a physician.

RE: Houstan

Two places everybody knew would flood bad... Houston and New Orleans.

Now, everybody's acting surprised?

That's what happens when you build cities below sea level, near large bodies of water.

In the Bible belt???

My Bible thumping neighbor built a big house with one side in a dry stream bed, on dirt.

I tried to remind him of what The Bible says about where to build your house.

He accused me of not having faith, and being evil. lol

If he built his house 1 or 2 feet to the west, it could've been built on rock!

6 months later his house was collapsing.

These are some of the first things Jesus said...

Matthew 7:24-27 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

RE: Can the family unit be saved

The first time I heard the phrase "family unit," was when my gf told me that the woman she babysat for, was divorcing her husband, and she was moving in with the woman, so that the woman, her daughter, and my gf could be "a family unit."

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

Running from a knife is probably the wisest thing you can do, unless you can't outrun the person who has the knife.

One of the first things I the old guys told me, when I started living on the streets was... "If somebody pulls a knife... RUN!"

I ran from the butcher knife, until I found the piece of metal; then I ran back, and chased him.

I was in a car wreck in 2004, which means I can't run very fast now, and need a walking stick. I carry a 42" hickory cane with a hook on it, which I bought from "Combat Canes." They make them with blades and gouges on them; but I use a regular round "stock cane" which I soaked in tung oil for over a year, to add weight, and make it harder to break.

Combat Canes has a "Black Belt" series of self defence cane dvd's; and I've collected over 200 YouTube videos on self defence with canes, under the account name, "selpmax;" but I can't bring myself to meditate on harming people: so I juggle it whenever I'm bored, to make it easy and natural to use from any position.

The last time a guy tried pulling a knife on me, I told him I'd break his hand if he opened it.

He left his knife closed.

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

The man who sells "Combat Canes" has a challenge...

He'll fight anybody with his cane.

You choose your weapon; but, he chooses the place where you fight.

His choice: Inside of the airport, after you pass the metal detector.

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

Corrected: to say... "Butcher knife."

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

I grew up in Venice, CA.

The first time I was shot, I was walking away.

The guy hit me and two friends, with two ricochetes from a 357 magnum.

The second time I got shot, I was jumping out of a truck at 50 mph.

I've never gotten shot while doing the duck and run.

Most people I know who survived "drive by shootings," were ducking and running as fast as they could go.

RE: BEWARE THE KNIVES.

Knives are great tools, but aren't good weapons.

A guy pulled a but her knife on me; and I beat him into the ground with a 3 or 4 foot long piece of metal, which I found nearby.

The best knife story I know came from my 5 foot tall friend, Jesse.

A big guy pulled a linoleum knife on him; and Jesse ran around the guy, hitting him repeatedly in the face with a fist sized rock.

Jesse stayed about 5 feet away from the guy with the knife, and ran around in front of him, hitting him over and over, picking up the rock every time it bounced off of the big guy's face, and hitting him in the face with the same rock again.

The guy with the knife never made a move toward Jesse; every time he tried, Jesse bounced the rock off of the guy's face again.

RE: Is removing Christopher Columbus statues a good thing or bad thing?

Just because you're even afraid to even climb down the ladder to check out what the underside of the Riverwalk looks like, doesn't mean I'm afraid of the French Quarter.

There's a nice hotel near there that has shopping on the bottom floor, and it takes two separate elevators to reach the top floor.

At the top of the hotel is a swimming pool; and I picked the lock with my Buck knife, to use the showers.

Its alright that you're afraid of the French Quarter; but I'm one of many people who thrive on the streets, and aren't afraid to be there after dark.

RE: Is removing Christopher Columbus statues a good thing or bad thing?

Oh look! It's the guy hiding behind locked doors!

When I paddled my canoe around the country, I tied it under the Riverwalk, right down the ladder the crew uses to board the paddleboat (check it out: there's enough room under there to tie a 17' canoe facing toward the river); and even though I could sleep in my canoe, I stayed on the streets of the French Quarter, because I grew up on the streets of L.A., beginning when I was 16; and I wanted to try living on the streets of New Orleans, just to make sure I still have it.

Too bad for you, that you think a stay in the French Quarter would scare a grown man.

RE: Is removing Christopher Columbus statues a good thing or bad thing?

Actually, we've already established that Christopher Columbus didn't discover America.

So... are you kidding yourself? or participating in the pandering?
