Yes, it IS a song! But the "lyrics" YOU posted AREN'T the lyrics TO the song! They're a fabrication. YOURS, or someone else's, I have NO idea! But the words YOU posted, are a VERY "slanted" perspective, of man/woman relationships. You MAY get along GREAT, with men! Again, "I" have NO WAY of knowing. And you're RIGHT! NOTHING I say IS likely to "change" long held prejudices and biases. But I'd feel I FAILED IN "MY" RESPONSIBILITY, IF I DIDN'T at least present OTHER OPTIONS to those that ARE unhappily trapped by THEIR beliefs. MAYBE you have NO COMPASSION, for others. But I've BEEN there, DONE that! And "I" do. So I'm willing to spend a little of MY TIME AND ENERGY, TRYING to do what I CAN! And it WOULD BE a better world, IF you did, too!

I GUESS you had to have been there! Do you HAVE a sense of NONsense, Hex? But then, I GUESS it's NOT NONsense, in that it makes PERFECT sense! "I" WOULD be a bit ticked off, if a mouse made a fool of ME, TOO! Wouldn't YOU? Maybe it's just the FUN aspect that gives you trouble? And, about YOUR complaint about it's length, DID you read it ALL THE WAY through? If so, then IT MUST HAVE BEEN ENTERTAINING! So SINCE WHEN has there been a length law on how long we can HAVE "fun/entertainment"? Personally, "I" think, the longer the fun last, the BETTER! But then, MAYBE you're allergic to fun! But I'll tell you the REAL "fun" of THAT poem! It got paid for and published! Brought me a few dinners, amongst other things!

I comprehend what you're saying (I think), Lindsy. But now, I think you're using the wrong word. Narcissism is "self love". If "I" were saying what I THINK you're saying, I would use the word "egocentrism" or "egocentrist", which means a person who thinks the world revolves around them. In a way, the two words ARE related, but there is a difference, albeit some might consider it subtle and trivial. Certainly, narcissist have a tendency to be/become egocentric. And they CAN do much damage. I think a perfect example of an egocentric narcissist causing much damage/havoc in his world, would be Caligula. Or Louie XlV. An example of a narcissist that wasn't egocentric might be Ernest Hemingway. And an egocentric that wasn't a narcissist might be Catherine the Great, Tsarina of Russia.

As far as "easy to overcome", I'm not too sure about that. History has a long list of both narcissist and egocentrics. In many ways, both can be seen as endemic to the human condition. But I agree that IF such traits ARE to be eliminated from the arsenal of human personality, it's going to require a complete reorientation of human society. EXACTLY how that could be done, I'm not sure. But we've got to start somewhere. Or someday, SOMEONE IS going to "push the button"! And a good place to start IS probably teaching/emphasizing our similarities over/instead of our differences.

Good luck with/on your mission! I'm a supporter, and try to contribute my part, in my own peculiar way!

Are you calling me a GOOD GUY, KL? DON'T do THAT! I MIGHT get to LIKE being liked! And THEN where would I be? ALL downhill, from there! I'm NOT a big advocate of "tough love". But it does have it's time and uses! You just need to be somewhat - OPPS! Here's that TERRIBLE word! - DISCRIMINATING, in who you use it on/with. DOESN'T work, on/for ALL!

No offense, Lindsy, but "narcissism", while NOT good, doesn't even QUALIFY, as a mistake, in today's world! It's commonplace, and common to common people! It's ALMOST "self-defense", today! There ARE a lot of mistakes being made, everyday. But in western society, today, a certain narcissism is NEEDED, in order to survive! SAD! But true! If you DON'T promote/champion yourself, you're going to be run over by a runaway train!

Political correctness is ONE of the BIGGEST problems, in the WORLD! Being "politically correct" means you're NOT doing any of your OWN thinking! But letting OTHERS do your thinking FOR you! EVERY war, is a consequence of "political correctness"! SOMEBODY convinces MOST people that war is the CORRECT political path for that nation to pursue! "Political Correctness" SHOULD offend people, Ches!

Your comment about "the first riddle" got me to thinking, KL. And I went back to your "Mock Turtle" presentation. And, just a thought, but it COULD BE, that he was stating HIS opinion of what was being taught. "Ambition" COULD be seen as "ambit", and, as a mathematician (particularly a Euclidean), he could be saying that the NEW teaching were AVOIDING the REAL problem/knowledge, by wandering in circles AROUND the "point". "Distraction" COULD BE seen as a comment, by AGAIN removing the "ion". Which leaves us with "distract". They were DISTRACTING attention away from what HE thought were the REAL conundrums, with the NEW teachings. "Uglification" could be JUST THAT! The were making the simple beauty of Euclidean teachings "ugly", with the new ways of teaching/seeing. And "Derision" might be his way of saying that he DERIDED" the new "learning" His way of saying that HE DIDN'T think it was GOOD teaching/learning/knowledge, at all. TOTAL "conjecture", on my part. I have NO IDEA what was in the man's mind, when he wrote it. Just a thought. A possibility, for consideration.

I've been "confused" from the moment mom gave me a pacifier, KL! And it's TRUE! The MORE you (think you) KNOW, the EASIER it is for you to REALIZE that the AMOUNT TO KNOW has increased! So, in a manner of speaking, it's TRUE that "The MORE you know, the LESS you know"! There IS No "end" to questions! EVERY answer you learn, generates AT LEAST one more question! Most OFTEN, MORE than one! And, to MY knowledge, "I" DON'T "KNOW" anything! I THINK/BELIEVE a LOT of "things"! But I DON'T THINK I "KNOW" anything! And I AGREE that, EVEN WHEN our "senses" are operating "well", our "logic" ISN'T necessarily the BEST "path" to knowledge OR wisdom. But we muddle on as best we can. (And it's people like YOU, that give me SOME "hope" we're gonna survive ourselves!)

But Rainy! It IS a woman's job - to please her man! Not her ONLY job, certainly! But ONE of them! You're NOT familiar with the old saw about "A woman's work is NEVER done"? I'm NOT joking, here, ladies! But NOW I'll mention the COROLLARY with which it's conjoined! It's ALSO a MAN'S "job" - to PLEASE his woman! Which IS one of the problems we're ALL faced with. Modern western social conditioning HAS, basically, eliminated the "sense" of "community/family" from it's repertoire! It's conditioned us into selfishness! People DON'T "do for" other people, like they used to. We live in a DISPOSABLE society, today! And we weren't taught, NOR are WE teaching our children, that WE'RE ALL interdependent! You DON'T SEE extended families, anymore, in western societies! You DON'T SEE neighbors cooking meals for their sick neighbors, anymore. We're becoming MORE AND MORE a society of individuals. And, eventually, if this "philosophy" continues, the WHOLE CONCEPT of "society" is going to collapse! At which point we're going to be back to dog eat dog barbarism! There WILL BE NO "middle" class! We're headed back into serfdom, if we don't start SEEING what's happening, all around us! Just saying, we can FLOURISH, TOGETHER, or we can die separately and alone. It's OUR choice, folks!

I WON'T debate the "nonsense" aspect of it, with you KL! It's CERTAINLY nonsense, in that the words are NOT words! But THAT'S THE WHOLE GENIUS of it! He let's the reader "CREATE/WRITE" his own poem! Just having created a framework for the reader to DO that! The reader becomes the writer, the creator! An ALMOST UNIQUE example of genius at work/conceptualization!

And I knew the "Charles Dodson", but IF I'd written that Charles Dodson wrote it, we'd have had MORE than just The Red Queen screaming "OFF WITH HIS HEAD!"

I DIDN'T know that it was written as a protest against NEW schooling methods. It was my understanding that it was written as an entertainment for his niece, Alice. But THAT would be a good cover for something that could have been considered "subversive", by some, if it objected to the then current "popular" REASONING. Maybe he's even MORE of a genius that I'd thought! I have NO trouble seeing/reading it as allegory. I'll be happy to read your thoughts on ANY topic! Thanks!

3 wishes? That's superfluous! I'd wish for all the wishes I ever wanted. Then pack my bottle away, in a steamer trunk, and have it stored away in Samarkand, in some building's basement, on the lowest level. Use one of my NEW wishes to have it's storage fees paid in perpetuity. And leave it there for some other poor soul to find, 26 centuries hence! And become king of the world for the next millennia! And, IF I was still happy being king (Which I DOUBT) after all that time, I'd just keep on being king. If not, I'd probably go back to my vagabondish ways. for all!

This is KINDA TOUGH, One!

I'd LIKE to be an EXPERT in/on "Happiness"! Because THEN I could help people BE happier!

But to DO that, I'd HAVE to be commensurately proficient at "communications", so that I COULD get my message across to everybody. Also, to be able to convince people that BEING "happy" is BETTER, than BEING "unhappy". (There's a LOT of people that CLING to their sadnesses!)

But I ALSO think that I'd LIKE to be an EXPERT, at LEARNING! Because THEN "I" would be able to learn ANY/EVERYTHING "I" want to know! And could TEACH OTHERS how to learn! A benefit to ALL!

Then, I think - IF I were the BEST "GAMBLER", in the world, I could win EVERYBODY'S money, and use it to CHANGE the way we "operate" it, now. But THAT would PROBABLY get me killed!

Or, IF I were an EXPERT Mind Reader, I could FACILITATE GOOD thoughts, and DISCOURAGE BAD thoughts! Make the world better, one person at a time!

And there ARE other things, One! Maybe I should wish to be an EXPERT "mind maker upper"!
