There seems to be a larger contingent of religious nutjobs, the politically ill-informed, the self absorbed, the asinine...than I recall from previous years. That may indeed be looking back with rose colored glasses, as Molly suggested.
It doesn't keep me up at night, but this time around I don't participate as much.
Keep fighting the good fight.
Firstly, I didn't suggest I had substance, character or wit, although I think you make a fair request, and I agree, if you're not part of the solution, you're part of the problem.
Not Banjo, but guitar, which I guess isn't the same but kind of, in that it's a similar learning process, I think. The initial stages can be slow going, but once you have the basic chord shapes and basic picking down, progress can be quite fast. Playing music is one of those things in life, I've found, the rewards come in direct proportion to the amount of effort put into it. Be strict with a minimum of 30 minutes a day practice (no excuses!!) and you'll be up and going in a few months. That was my experience.

These buildings surrounded my guesthouse. 12 people died in the second pic less than thirty meters from where I stayed. There are other pics but they've posted huge so I won't annoy everyone with any others.
In Nepal on April 25th, 2015, an 8.2m earthquake hit the country killing almost 10 000 people and injuring 22 000. I'd just arrived in Kathmandu two days prior planning to head west to Pokhara. It was a devastating natural disaster for Nepal and its people, as well as a very scary event for those of us who lived through it.
