Is the picture coming up for anyone else because here it just looks like a picture icon and not the photo itself. You gotta click on tat little square icon to go to the photo and I don't think it is supposed to work like that.

As in glowing dull red or red on the color change of the blade under heat but not glowing?

I have no idea though there was one who said she wanted to private message me because she couldn't find a decent knife anywhere. Have not heard from her yet . Why none posting about smithing or making blades, Dunno, maybe this crew just aren't into that.

Why do women always expect the guy to travel to them and or pay.

It is not necessarily difficult but I am looking for certain things so use sites like this to broaden my chances of meeting someone. Are you saying that it should be the guy willing to take all the financial risk in meeting someone from afar and that the woman shouldn't have to concern herself with such things?
As I stated earlier, personally I think that if 2 people who have met online and are not from close to each other, both should take the risk and put in equally to the meeting. Equal risk = equal vulnerability.

I have a number of leaf springs already annealed and waiting to be turned into something. I annealed all my files and leaf springs at the same time by putting them all in a pile of timber that had to be burnt and just leaving them in there till it had completely cooled down and all the metal was cold enough to pick back out bare handed. Instead of chasing junk yards as there aren't that many around where I live, I prefer to get onto old farm dumps. They are a treasure trove of cool steel for this kind of work, especially the ones that have been used for the last 100 years. :)

A couple more of the horse head blades though it has been suggested that they would also make great hoof picks so I might market them as both.

A little knife I made today from half a horse shoe. It is mild steel so won't hold a great edge but for the horse lover, it would make a nice pocket knife wit a difference. :) The gouge in one side was from me dropping it and it getting stuck against the belt of the sander so this one won't be going up for sale but it gives you an idea of how they would look. The bread and butter knife is only ion the picture as as s

Thanks for the tips on the spark testing. I live in Australia so Manhattan supplies is just a little to far for my liking though I do already have a rather decent collection of old files, steel and wrought iron that I have been collecting for some time, to satisfy the majority of my smithing and knife making needs. :) Thanks anyway.

By all means, feel free to message me. :)

Did you re temper it after the heat treatment and hardening? If not, 200 degrees Celsius, not sure what that is in Fahrenheit, in a oven till the blade is a dark straw color, will put the temper back into it so it will hold a great edge without having to worry about it snapping while using it.

Knife makers and blacksmiths.

For blades I do a snap test though you are supposed to be able to tell how good a steel is by the sparks that come off it when grinding it but I can't tell the difference yet. Snap testing is done by heating it and drawing it out to about 3mm thick. Then heating it to just beyond magnetic and quenching it to harden the steel if it will harden. The I put it in a vice and see if it will snap or just bend. Mild steel will bend, decent steel for knife or blade making will snap and it depends of the grain structure, coarse or fine, that shows you what sort of blade it will be good for. I am still learning the grain differences but have not been doing this that long and there is lots to learn. :)

RE: Why r u on Cs ?

Forums and blogs and the chance of meeting someone new that might want to share my existence. Also, it is one of the few completely free dating/meeting sites on the net.

Click the photo and it will show you the rest of the pic. These are waht I was working on yesterday and still need to be polished and sharpened but apart from that, they are all done. Top is a round blade that is used a little like a Stanley knife but is ideal for cutting leather and other similar materials. Middle is a general purpose blade, made from a old farriers file with a type of fruit tree as the handle or if you are into the knife makers jargon, scales, with .22 magnum shells as the pins and the bottom is a small cleaver ideal for fine chopping herbs. All are fro sale and will be taken to the local markets if not sold before. :)

Maybe this will work.

Hi, I have recently started making knives and doing a little smithing and was wondering if there are any others in here who do the same. If so, where are you from and what are you working on and what is your setup, forge etcetera? Feel free to post pics of anything you are working on. I would post my latest stuff but can't because I am running windows 7 and it doesn't have a http address in the properties of the pic so have no idea how to post from my laptop. Once I figure it out I will do so.
Anyone else interested in hand made knives or smithing stuff or wanting anything specifically made, is also most welcome.

Why do women always expect the guy to travel to them and or pay.

I agree, it should be equal commitment, equal cost and therefore, equal risk because if both parties have investment in the meeting and have something to loose from it, it stands to reason that both will be more open and tolerant of each others little floors that if one party has paid for everything and in doing so has become vulnerable to being exploited. Equal risk = equal vulnerability and a greater degree of trust in the other or that is how I see it anyway.

Why do women always expect the guy to travel to them and or pay.

Hey Molly, a guy doesn't have to be rich or even be able to afford a travel at any given point in time to enter into LDR. He just has to be able to budget to make the trip if both parties want to take the relationship from online only, to face to face. Alternatively, as someone else said, he can have the friend travel to him and cover all the costs for her while there as well as taking her out and making sure that she does not have to spend anything more for the time she is there.
Being unable to afford to travel at will should not be something that stops someone from starting and getting to know someone from a distance, that has the potential for a lasting and happy relationship because if it does then the entire basis of the chances of love and happiness is about financial wealth and surplice cash and not about the things that really matter that can hold a relationship together through the easy and hard struggles of an ongoing commitment.

Why do women always expect the guy to travel to them and or pay.

I have been around a few of these sites, for a whole now, and it always seems that the ladies all think that the guy should always be the one who does the traveling to meet for the first time or should pay for them to relocate if a connection goes that far. Why is that? I think that both parties should be willing to risk something in meeting and showing some sort of commitment to taking that step. Why shouldn't a lady be expected to pay equally as a guy when first connecting especially if there is a large distance between them.

RE: What are u hoping 2018 will bring?

For my business, The Poo, plant food, to take off and I get to start wholesaling instead of just chasing retail, get the roof on my carport, the concrete floor in my outdoor kitchen as well as both fireboxes and the pizza oven installed and the roof over the little deck I built last year, off the back or will be the side of the house, when I finish my reno's. I also want to get a front-end loader and backhoe and the power finally sorted out so I am not relying just on a generator.
Personally, it would be nice to meet someone who has the potential to be a life partner and by partner I mean in life and business, one who wants to start a family and build a common future together by combining our resources and talents. :)
If the partner connection doesn't happen then the stuff above that would be great to achieve as well as digging the pond system I hope to use as water catchment and getting loads more gardens in and healthy. :)

RE: AGE GAP

I'm hoping to find someone 20 years or a little more younger than me because I still want the chance at least, to have a child of my own. It would be much easier for me to find a partner closer to my own age but then to do so would be to give up completely on the dream that I have had since I was young, of having my own child and deny myself that happiness and I am not ready to let it go yet. So, in my humble opinion, 20 years plus is ok but there has to be connection on multiple levels.and a deep seated compatibility. I see adults as adults and in that, age does not come into the equation regardless of how many years they have been around. There are just some who are more mature than others and that has nothing to do with a persons age as I have known very mature younger adults and very immature older ones. A relationship where maturity levels are vastly different is the thing that causes failure in a relationship, not the age gap.

RE: Do u love urself - unconditionally - No critique ?

Yes, I do love myself and it doesn't matter what other people think of me because I can't please everyone all the time. So long as I live in my integrity, honor and truth and know my own faults and flaws and are willing to try at least, to fix them and am happy with in, that is all that matters. I was not always like that though and it has taken a long time of self examination and honesty to be this way now and now I just like me and enjoy my own company which is good because all to often, I only have me anyway. :)

RE: What do u collect - if anything ?

I also collect seeds. One day I will have the most fantastic garden, when I manage to set up the pond system to collect enough water to keep it all healthy. :)

RE: What do u collect - if anything ?

Old instruments when I can afford them or see them being tossed out just because I can't stand seeing them destroyed, and fishing gear for the same reason. Some books, not that I read a lot but I just like having a library for when others might like too. Old tools and now black smithing equipment but that is more because I have started smithing and need them for ongoing working of the forge.Old,heavy duty industrial metal fittings and things like that. Besides the fact that I just love the look of some of these I also use them in constructing my sheds and stuff as it makes something new look old just because of the fittings used. :)

RE: What right does a man have to shout at a woman

Jac. I like the way you think. :)

Is modern medicines, over populating the world?

Just what is a sustainable world population, considering the resources that it has and it's capacity to grow and produce food, how many people can the world safely sustain before natures natural balance is tipped against us. For a millennia, sicknesses and disease has kept the worlds populations in check and balance to the environments they live in but with modern medicines being so effective against a lot of diseases, that in the past have killed off large portions of the population, are we in fact working against nature and are we setting our selves up for a super bug that will be needed to bring the population back into balance?
With all other species on the plant, the sick, old and weak, die off, leaving only the strongest sectors of that population or species to pass on the next generation of genes that has the best chance of survival but with humans and our technology, that is not so anymore and many people now survive, that if left up to nature, would not. That, along with modern medicines and the eradication of many diseases through inoculation, the worlds human population has exploded in the last 100 years and it looks like it will continue to do so. Can this planet sustain so many of us or are we our own worst enemies and are setting our selves up for a devastating population reduction, out of our control or simply the destruction of our home planet through exhausting the natural resources, that we take for granted now, but have a limited supply and therefore will run out as the population increases, to the point that mother earth can no longer support our species?

RE: Scariest dreams tell us

I can't remember my last scary dream or not since childhood anyway. Then it was being chased by something like a dark shadow that resembled a wolf that just had a foreboding danger element about it and no matter how far or fast I ran, it was just behind me and I could not escape.
I understand the dream now and where it stemmed from but as a kid, it repeated often and scared the hell out of me.

RE: The Last Man On Earth Sat Alone In A Room

Simple, some disease or bug has taken out all the other men. He is hiding there because the women who were not effected, are crowding him and he just can't keep up, no pun intended, laugh

RE: Finally

I saw a doco recently where they have cloned the first primates which is one step closer to cloning humans without taking the ethical or religious significance into account, that is. Personally, I don't have issues with cloning anything but I don't see it si playing god or am even sure if god exists.

RE: Welcome

Maybe you need to get out more but that is besides the point. Gidday mate and welcome, it is great having you here and being a part of all these cool forums and blogs. laugh
