Gun control will NEVER prevent these types of crimes. There are thousands of laws relating to guns, and NONE of them address the iron rule that criminals do not obey laws. Bans, permits, purchase limits, etc. will not stop these shootings. A gun does not shoot someone on its own...no matter how "evil" or "military" it looks! Wishful thinking that laws by themselves will work denies the facts. The desire to do something...anything ... simply isn't enough. What may help is adequate (in type and quantity) mental health services nationwide for timely and effective help.
Currently because the U.S. is the only county without nationwide health insurance coverage (not nationalized healthcare..a different topic), even those people referred for help simply can't get it. Often even court-ordered evaluation and treatment run into the cost of care/lack of care provider problems. Even the majority of people who do not require inpatient services find payment and availability of help just another reason to forget the whole thing. Referrals by teachers, cops, social workers, etc. are useless without practitioners and the money to pay them.
