I say old Been - I praise your lads unreservedly. The latter is especially to be admired and I know exactly how badly they are treated.
My Bro In Law is a Brigadier ex Para, RCT and was the CEO of combat Stress after he came out and still serves on the pensions board so he scraps with the ministers in government/MOD regularly and even dines with the SAS bods at Hereford. he also gets about giving talks, lectures and is writing a book about Army history. He went from a private at Canterbury through to Sandhurst and upwards on his own merit from the CCF at Sir Roger Manwoods schooll ( sandwich) and that was the result of his father being a bricklayer and later Foreman who insisted on his kids being educated better privately.
You have also just summed up everything about camaraderie and all else about WHY we did what WE did even in my mob long ago when we had National Service people with us and even WHY it should IMO NOW be re-introduced. BTW I started off in the ATC and advise allyoungsters to get into the reapective cadet forces as that really is where a real valuable education all starts.
I hope the originator of this topic doesn't *bite* and actually waste time with an answer to the comments by the previous contributor - It could well result in a boring lecture on religion, education and even the possible regurgitation of a dissertation on womens rights from a newly self appointed academic expert (*seat polisher*)
I would like to thank all punters who looked at and the few who bothered to comment on the suggestion !!
With such an underwhelming lead balloon response and no positive suggestions from anyone, I deduce no interest and 3will not bother now with the logistics I was prepared to undertake and finance.
Yeah Cap'n - He's a cool Bro - and I bet he can actualoy say Nuclear ploferation without F in it all up like that prat Bush does - and At least Mr Smiles is *up front* with it so we at least KNOW
The answer to your last bit is No - of course not. If it sounded like it was MERLIN LUMP, had eliptical wings and was not built like a bloody tank it WAS a Spitfire seriously - The old Hurry battle platform was a lovely old lady too in a different way.
If you can't tell me the letters or its registration number I would not be able to tell you its Mark
If you want to see the loactions of all the UK based Spitfires, Here is the URL to take shufti at and I have loads of books including the Pilots notes on the Mk 5 and the Merlin Manuals plus 1/2 scale drawings of the Griffon supplied to me FOC by Rolls Royce.
An Old Ruymian Eh - You must have had assocaition with Thanet Wanderers RFC if you went there - I went to Hereson Acadamy for Young Thugs where the late Trevor Cobb was the sports master but never played Rugby until I went into the RAF and got a bit *fitter* (pun probably intended)
I wish you good luck anyehere you end up and with the lady of your choics Regards Mike Dennis
I would buy myself an airwothy Spitfire Mk 22 with a Griffon engine and teardrop canopy, an Old Boeing Stearman and a Bugatti Veyron and just enjoy them all Mike @ Broadstairs
OK then - I think I will do this one with tow hits in mind So It looks like you can't it to make somewhere like Kent which is what I wos finkin or even by the seside and as for North Wales - Sorry but that ain anywheres near darn sarf but a for the bloke who said welcome here anyway - There's a pity it is there's no Taff 'arps in the Emoti thingies
OK - But Ow about sumwear ahtside Lunnun Eastwards where the natives done av estuary accents based on the permanent misery of East Enders
Hi Muleguy - I say old sport - You ARE WELL out of date TV wise - Debby Reynolds was one of the original cast in the Rodgers & Hammerstien musical *South Pacific* from the 1950's which is shgown on TV regularly due to the BBC being rationed by its government propaganda mastsrs.
But Paul's wife is actually Debbie McGee - Young enough to be Debby Reynolds Jewish grandaughter but as Jackie Mason says - Oi veh - I should vurry already Nun of us is poifect - an noither is his ex Mayor's Brooklyn accent
Ahoy Cap'n SB - Thanks - I say old boy - I am surprised to see you still on here
but your navigation is a mite suspect - We could finish up on the rocks there You are West country whereas I meant around London and the South where its allegedly more Y dig Bro
As for me - I am less good looking BUT have a Kenyan lady now proving the CS thing works but am back to shufti the forums and possibly see how anyone has stirred it up again with CS ShutzStaffel HQ
OK - With respect - I do not know if your background was military at any time not that it is relevant -
But I DID mention that there are ways of sorting wheat out from chaff and I only speak from hands on experience inside and outside the service I chose at the time to volunteer for. (1954) aged 16 and a bit
Any unwilling Conscripts today can and would be soon discovered and *selected* for whatever tasks the service they entered saw fit, dependant on their attitudes and capabilities and if they show promise it is rewarded.
It would NOT be a bad thing to let them sample pride in themselves and being part of a team which is what the basic training disciplines and self-discipline teaches them. That is especially the case with most who would never at any time experienced any at school or dare I say it - at home.,
That incidentally is also the considered view of my great Nephew who unlike many of his school mates had a very good upbringing, entered the Army at 17 and is now a technician Signaller who served in Iraq in 2007, is going to Afghanistan soon, probably as a Corporal and he is only 21.
So I say that a stint in the services would give so many drop outs etc a chance that it cannot be dismissed!!
OK muleguy - I take all your points and we will have to agree to differ simply because of the mention of Bruce and there are many others like him that are not so high profile.
BTW *Wnnie* his wife Wilnelia Merced (A Miss World) is a super lady too and I am damn sure she would be offended by you saying Anthea Redfearn!
Win is much younger than Bruce too and for the record I have met both and had the honour to play for him when he did an act involving *all* his talents including playing with us at a charity gig was playing drums with an Ashford based Shearing and Modern Jazz Quartet style band before I retired from the scene. He is also a better pianist in his own right than you see on TV - Take it from me and IMO he should have been knighted long ago !!
I also believe what you say about age is parallel to the one size fits all theory, metaphorically speaking.
That is the rubbish the younger generation who think they control all our lives (40's) is talking and I like many my age will never comply with it as long as we don't letb them rule us, think young and can act it.
No offenses meant to anyone but That is MY opinion based on experience
Age is no barrier unless you let it dominate any relationship so in the words of the Beatles I will * Let it be *
Mike Dennis Broadstairs Kent UK for the gals an a for the blokes
Apart from your cover statement that you do not intend offense all I can say is that we, the over 60's, are not all deaf dumb blind or stupid as assumed by management, authorities and politicians or public morons subscribing to media hype and sub-culture philoshopy!
I am never normally rude to ladies but in this case your comments need an answer and I am also hopeful that Lapta, like me if I knew her, would not waste time, life or money on such a female *airhead* boasting proudly of such an ignorant sub-culture philosophy !!
Your female *Friend* would be well advised to use her single brain cell if she has one and stop shooting her mouth off before she engages it !!
She will get to 70 one day as will you so I suggest its in order to grow up NOW - and Think - It might be a new experience !! for the ladies and to all sane men
Ladies & gentlemen. May I still be permitted to address you as such.
I served with the RAF as an Aero Engine Fitter in the 1950's and early 60's on a development squadron for 3 years and 74 ( the Tigers) squadron for just over one year when we the first to have the Lightning Mk 1 (the fastst interceptor fighter in the world.
It was all British and had a quicker response tim than a Tornado 30 years later. The training and disciplines I learned included two years in the Fighter Command Band as a drummer (only achievable by audition) and have always held me in good stead thereafter, I received recognised qualifications at higher levels than GCSE's A levels and the crappy dumbed down NVQ's (Not Very Qualifieds) and on that basis alone I recommend such skilled service trade training to anyone.
I also feel qualified to say with some authority having done work for the MoD and private development because of it that while I respect the views expressed here, ALL the services NOW are aware of appropriate selection and suitability re- psychological and other factors and that includes me. I was also before reirrement, a qualified Engineering trade Instructor which was also based partly on my military training and I invigilate at examinations.
What is also being overlooked possibly due to unawareness and younger people having not sampled themselves what I am about to say is that within the highly disciplined framework of military training (NOT basic squarebashing) there are many transferable skills and trades which can l be learned far quicker than can be done in Civvy street. -
They are being taught by far superior qualified instructors than most teachers in schools (I have two in the family) who are not allowed to teach so that military option should at least be considered, regardless of which trade or service one choses to apply for.
Hello I read all this thread and although I never saw any of Pauls' contributions to CS, I had to re-join temporarily just to let you have this prayer, which was read out by my Brother in law at my Wife's funeral last year on June 6th after she died from a massive blood clot on the brain on May 26th.
Please share with me all its sentiments as my personal tribute on here in the only way I can present it.
I hope one of you who knew Paul and is in contact with them will pass it on to his grieving family with my sincere condolences.
I have no idea how to send the original coloured plaque as a Jpeg here, as I am thick with a computer, but, if anyone wants one to either make a framed print and present to them at the funeral on behalf of all of you, or to send it to the family, please send me an E mail to this address as soon as you can and I will send a copy immediately.

And - If anyone wishes to keep in touch with me, OK - I can say that it has been a pleasure to know you all.
Miss Me, But Let Me Go.
When I come to the end of the road, and the sun has set for me, I want no tears in a gloom- filled room, Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not too much, And not with your head bowed low. Remember the love that once we shared, Miss me, but let me go.
This is a journey we all must take And each must take alone; It’s all a part of God’s perfect plan, A step on the road to home.
When you are lonely and sick of heart go to the friends thet we know. Bury your sorrows in doing good, Miss me but let me go.
Good bye Folks A friend - I hope Mike Dennis Broadstairs Kent
This is my final report on this subject and I sincerely hope those of you whom I may have hopefully amused in some way will take it objectively.
I said before that CS does work - IF - You - are willing to let it. And that means ONLY IF YOU LET IT
Firstly - the profound stuff What I have I can't fathom out BUT
I am today, at the point where I have two ladies declaring love for me - One has not even met me face to face yet, but we have been corresponding by E mail and telephone regularly when sh has been able as she has had to deal with her mothers death and burial etc from the big C in a foreign land whose culture does not think as we do in the UK and she has no mature friends there to whom she can refer.
We will be meeting as soon as she gets back to the UK
Landed - The other is my CS lady who I have met and positively provided help to her and her children - There is a 30 year age gap with the latter and a 40year age gap with the former but both are sufficently mature to have accepted it and I feel privileged that some are suffiently intelligent to not limit their horizons and operate restictive practices.
Thank you for all the amusing comments and banter - I will mis you and now being an ex part time pro musician I have to sign out and say
Conclusions I am dealing with all the situations by the Frank Sinatra method and will do it MY Way
Farewell - It really is Good bye this time and I sincerely wish all of you ladies :and gents whatever your ages and circumstances etc, every success in everything you do and anything you desire. :cheers
Like I said this morning punters. Interim report on todays events.
We had damn fine day 2 day 2gether with her lad.
My *CS Does work* lady viewed the flat selected and WILL definately be moving here to Broadstairs as soon as asll her references etc have been confirmed. --
She is coming down again next week end as she is impressed with the general feel of Thanet.
Meanwhile, contact will be made with all relevant 11-18 schools here for the next stage in the logistics exercise.
To say I am chuffed at our firstface to face meeting is an understatement. We have so much in common despite a considerable age gap, which she says is totally irelevant as far as she and her son are concerned. That was confirmed by her mature minded son.
RE: what to say, and when to say it ????
Shhh No 1 - Silent running please dearIf we up periscope together - Big Brother might make something of it
Many s 4 u
Mike
