8:14 That (is the award), so taste it, and (know) that for disbelievers is the torment of the Fire.

How is this any different than...

If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away; it is better for you to lose one of your members than for your whole body to go into hell. (Matthew 5:27-31)

Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. (John 3:16-18)

And Just in Genesis:

Because God liked Abel's animal sacrifice more than Cain's vegetables, Cain kills his brother Abel in a fit of religious jealousy. 4:8

God decides to destroy all humans, beasts, creeping things, fowls, and "all flesh wherein there is breath of life." He plans to drown them all. 6:7, 17

God repeats his "every living substance ... from off the face of the earth." 7:4

God drowns everything that breathes air. From newborn babies to koala bears -- all creatures great and small, the Lord God drowned them all. 7:21-23

God sends a plague on the Pharaoh and his household because the Pharaoh believed Abram's lie. 12:17

God tells Abram to kill some animals for him. The needless slaughter makes God feel better. 15:9-10

Hagar conceives, making Sarai jealous. Abram tells Sarai to do to Hagar whatever she wants. "And when Sarai dealt hardly with her, she fled." 16:6

"I will not destroy it for ten's sake."
I guess God couldn't find even ten good Sodomites because he decides to kill them all in Genesis 19. Too bad Abraham didn't ask God about the children. Why not save them? If Abraham could find 10 good children, toddlers, infants, or babies, would God spare the city? Apparently not. God doesn't give a damn about children. 18:32

Lot tells a bunch of angel rapers to "do unto them [his daughters] as is good in your eyes." This is the same man that is called "just" and "righteous" in 2 Peter 2:7-8. 19:7-8

God kills everyone (men, women, children, infants, newborns) in Sodom and Gomorrah by raining "fire and brimstone from the Lord out of heaven." Well, almost everyone -- he spares the "just and righteous" Lot and his family. 19:24

God threatens to kill Abimelech and his people for believing Abe's lie. 20:3-7

Sarai tells Abraham to "cast out this bondwoman and her son." God commands him to "hearken unto her voice." So Abraham abandons Hagar and Ishmael, casting them out into the wilderness to die. 21:10-14

God orders Abraham to kill Isaac as a burnt offering. Abraham shows his love for God by his willingness to murder his son. 22:2-13

Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, is "defiled" by a man who seems to love her dearly. Her brothers trick all of the men of the town and kill them (after first having them all circumcised), and then take their wives and children captive. 34:1-31

"And Er, Judah's firstborn, was wicked in the sight of the Lord; and the Lord slew him." 38:7

After God killed Er, Judah tells Onan to "go in unto they brother's wife." But "Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and ... when he went in unto his brother's wife ... he spilled it on the ground.... And the thing which he did displeased the Lord; wherefore he slew him also."

After Judah pays Tamar for her services, he is told that she "played the harlot" and "is with child by whoredom." When Judah hears this, he says, "Bring her forth, and let her be burnt." 38:24

Joseph interprets the baker's dream. He says that the pharaoh will cut off the baker's head, and hang his headless body on a tree for the birds to eat. 40:19
Exodus

I could go book by book, and find WAY more dividing violence than the Qua'ran. It's not exclusive to Islam.

Doesn't matter. If the parents are citizens of the US, the chid is a citizen by birth. John McCain was born in Panama.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

But still, rather that continue off topic....

Anyone found a contemporary writer yet?

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

Diogenes said:

Continuity of content between manuscripts is one of the chief indicators of reliability in regards to ancient documents.

Also said something about my "ignorance showing." (which is funny in itself.)

So then in that respect, the Book of Mormon is right and so is the Qua'ran, Eddas, The Book of the Dead, etc. Because the continuity is there, Hell there is only one version of these, so there is NO QUESTION of continuity, and "continuity of content betweem manuscripts is one of the chief indicators of reliability in regards to ancient documents."

"No ancient document even comes close to the New Testament for reliability..."

Continuity of content....Acutually, The fewer number of copies, the more reliable. Bible Scholars have continually found mistranslations in the Bible from version to version starting with one of the oldest, the Septuagint translation in Hebrew. Then there the gothic, the coptic, etc etc....Different versions, different languages, HUGE chance of mistranslation and variences in text. WHich I could post if you ask me nice.

The cylander seals of ancient Sumeria are Older Only one copy. No chance of mistranslation.

The Qua'ran. One copy, no chance for mistranslation.

The Book f Mormon. One copy. No chance for mistranslation

The Eddas . One copy. No chance for mistranslations.

The Book of THe Dead. One Copy. No chance for mistranslations.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

Not changing content doesn't make it reliable.

The Qua'ran hasn't changed one word since it was fisrt presented. Neither has the Book of Mormon. Or the Torah, The Book of the dead, The Eddas, etc, etc. Does that make them equally reliable?

RE: What is ISLAM?

[quote}

If this is true what you say, then how do you explain this? And with the upmost respect, I also ask why is your religion so full of hate toward other religions?

I am dying to hear your answer!

You're confusing Muslims with Extremist Muslims.

Doesn't Christianity also show zero tolerance for other religions?

Yes, yes it does.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

No, that's wrong. No biblical writings date back to the time of jesus. Only after his death. And the Gospels are "according to...." Not "written by"....

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

I bet huffington post would say Obma is a contemporary author.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

Titus and Josephus

Can a man and woman live without each other........???

I've been doing pretty damn good so far.

And I can leave the toilet seat up all the time.

And I can fart whenever I want. Even when it smells like old milk.

I can walk around without pants on and scratch my nuts.

It's great.

But I'm kinda sick of "yanking the crank" if you know what I mean....

RE: how long do you think your CS life span will be...?

Maybe another month or so.

This place has gotton WAY too serious since I started here.

What happened to all the "fart" threads????

RE: What is ISLAM?

I appreciate you coming into the threads and keeping this somewhat a discussion.

The language barrier may hamper this, but I have a quick question.

How do you explain ancient mythical tales of "gods" more ancient than the Bible or the Qua'ran? It seems that someone somewhere took an already existing idea and ran with it. to make it more modern (for the times).

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

I try not to battle. I just point things out. Unless someone trolls, I keep myself together.

Couple of quick points.

There are dozens of mythical virgin births more ancient than the Bible.

Resurrections, too.

The ten commandments are a shortened version of the Egyptian "40 Negative Truths" in the Book of the Dead. Moses would have surely had the education to know all of these as he was raised inthe house of Pharoah.

The Red Sea is still up for debate.

here's an interesting article.

And another quickie....

The most precise information on the site of the crossing is provided by the Priestly source, at Exodus 14:2, where God says to Moses: "Speak to the Children of Israel, and have them turn back and encamp before Pi-Hahiroth, between Migdol and the sea, before Baal-zephon; you shall encamp opposite it, by the sea." All three names appear to be Hebrew rather than Egyptian. The meaning of "Pi-hahiroth" is unknown, although pi means "mouth" and ha is the definite article; "Migdol" and "Baal-zephon" mean "watchtower" and "Lord of the North" respectively. None of the three have been located, despite considerable effort.

In the absence of any identification of Pi-hahiroth, speculation has centred on the general rather than exact place where the crossing was made. The mainstream agreement is that the crossing took place on the Reed Sea near the present day-city of Suez, just north of the historical headwaters of the Gulf of Aqaba.

There is an unlikely, but somewhat plausible theory this incident did not happen on the Reed Sea but the Israelites went along the enclosing spit of the Sabhat al Bardawil (a large lagoon on the north coast of the Sinai Peninsula), trying to evade pursuers. If so, Baal-zephon would be a known tell beside a gap in that spit, and the sea recession and surge would be a rise and fall of a few feet caused by wind.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

Sorry, haven't been on much.

I see you quoted Josephus. (I'm cathcing up on the thread, so if this has been discussed, I apologize)

Josephus was born around 37AD. This is AFTER Jesus supposedly died (and left the Earthly Plane)

He is not contemporary.

And I like Dio, too. Especially if he's wearing a dress.

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

I don't slither out of anything. My stance is the same as it has been from the beginning. Anyone can read back to your post and see YOU brought up Paul, and I showed you he had no contemporary writing. Then you decided to take it off topic, and just can't handle that I haven't swayed my position.

Same God source? That would be MAN.

Any contemporary writers?

Why are there no contemporary writers in Jesus' time?

Historical accuracy.
