Look up the Sumerians and the Annunaki. Their mythology WAY outdates the Bible, and the belief is that they came from the Heavens and created Man. WHom they named "A-Dom".
KJV has been rewritten and edited so many times to conform to Dogma. (most versions have) Biblegateway.com has all available versions online and you can search most languages as well. I try to use different versions when I research.
New American Standard is one NKJV once in a while. There are a few that follow the quotes I posted.
That doesn't explain the scripture form Genesis. "making man in "our" image" and the other scripture eluding to the presence of other dieties. (Dagon for example).
I've studied other religions as a hobby for years. It's a very interesting topic for me.
The Sumerians called ther gods the "Annunaki", or "Those from heaven to earth did come." According to Sumerian legend, the Annunaki were the creators. And they created MAN. Wanna know what his name was? A-dom!!!
And this is written on stone tablets and cylander seals thousands of years BEFORE the Biblical account of Genesis. I believe the Bible is a plagurized account taken from MANY ancient Pagan religions.
The Bible God offers eternal life in heaven for all those who believe and worship him. And people believe that to be FACT. But, Osirus, the Egyptian God offered the same to his followers, so did Demeter. In fact, when ancient writers tell us that in general ancient people believed in eternal life, with the good going to the Elysian Fields and the not so good going to Hades. Yet, these have been passed off as myth to modern man.
Jesus Christ is described as the son of God, born of a mortal woman. And according to prophesy, turned water into wine, raised girls from the dead, Healed a blind man with "his spittle", and set it all up for believers to get into heaven, but those who misbehave are on their way to Hades. This, too is believed to be fact according to Bible believers.
So why is it that when we read a story about Vespatian healing a blind man with his "spittle", we see it as a myth?
Apollonius of Tyana raised a girl from the dead, but that is a myth. Pythia, the priestess at the Oricle at Delphi (Greece) prophesied for a thousand years and the prophesies came true--myth. Dionysus turned water into wine, and his followers were filled with "atay", the Spirit of God,--myth. Romulus, Son of God, born of a virgin--myth. Alexander the Great, Son of God, born of a mortal woman--myth. Agustus, Son of God, born of mortal woman--myth.
How is Jesus "fact" when he came thousands of years after all the others?
Elohim is the plural form of the hebrew word for God. Christ is not the father. If he was, why did he refer to god as his father????
And The OT God was seen and heard.
John 6:46, "Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father."
Exo. 6:2-3, "And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: 3And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them."
Num. 12:6-8, "And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream. 7My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house. 8With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
Exodus 24:11 And upon the nobles of the children of Israel he laid not his hand: also they saw God, and did eat and drink.
Gen. 17:11 And when Abram was ninety years old and nine, the LORD appeared to Abram, and said unto him, I am the Almighty God; walk before me, and be thou perfect.
There are more scriptures that tell of God being seen by man in the OT.
1. a strong belief in a supernatural power or powers that control human destiny; "he lost his faith but not his morality" 2. an institution to express belief in a divine power; "he was raised in the Baptist religion"; "a member of his own faith contradicted him"
Definitions of divine power on the Web:
The unmanifested, pure energy that exists within the Goddess and God. The life force, the ultimate source of all things. ...
What would be your definition of supernatural power?
Hail, Neheb-nefert, who comest forth from thy cavern, I have not stolen the bread of the gods. Hail, Tcheser-tep, who comest forth from the shrine, I have not carried away the khenfu cakes from the Spirits of the dead. Hail, An-af, who comest forth from Maati, I have not snatched away the bread of the child, nor treated with contempt the god of my city. Hail, Hetch-abhu, who comest forth from Ta-she, I have not slain the cattle belonging to the god.
So, did Moses climb the Mountain and compile his own commandments by plagurizing the 42 confessions, compress them into ten, and say they were given to him by God, and presenting them to the illiterate masses to make them follow what he wanted them to do?
Was Moses a cult leader? And how many other ideas were plagurized into the most published book in history?
I just find it an interesting read when looked at as a story. All the things that I could point out that people fail to see would go on for pages. Like Giants, multiple gods, etc.
I approached this thread as a non biased lead. I agree that there are good moral ideas presented in the Bible for the most part. (There's some repulsive things as well) But there are many other religious documents that are MUCH older that arry the same messages.
So I like to view them as stories not unlike Aesop's Fables. Good life lessons, and nothing more.
Does the Bible recognize the existence of other "gods"?
