I was born in a city on the south shore of Long Island in New York State.

Moved to Vermont when I was five.

I've lived in New Hampshire, Massachusetts and I now live in Maine.

I betcha we all have our moments when we could use a kind word.

And wish that someone might notice the struggle to keep that eternal smile we wear sometimes.

But none of us really know when a kind word is needed on here unless the person says, "I need a kind word, dammit!"

Many people go to cemeteries on Memorial Day to put flowers on graves or just tend the gravesite.

I have no relatives in nearby cemeteries.

So I'm going to a very old cemetery nearby, with very old gravestones.
And I'm going to clear off weeds. And enjoy the sunshine.

And think about the people who lived in my town long ago.

It costs nothing to remember
