The first 5 books of the Old Testament are accredited to Moses as the author, with Joshua and/or a 3rd possible writer, who wrote of Moses death...since he could'nt have recorded it himself. It is possible a scribe transcribed what Moses dicted to him as he got older. What is very,very important to remember, is that the Bible we have today, is at best, copied from a copy of the best available copy. NONE of the original manuscripts EXIST today.
I think there are errors in what we have today annd that is because when scribe's and Monks tried to make their copies, there were pieces of information missing from the texts they had and so they filled in the blank area's with what they thought the author would have said.
The Univercity of Michigan has the largest collection of papyrus writing's in the world, second only to those in London. The oldest is a piece from the Book of Isaiah, dating back to the 1st century ad. Vellum, which is calf skin, was also used to write on.
