In telemarketing terms, they were upselling to a ‘tap’.
You should be aware that only 15% of what is donated to most charities actually reaches the intended destination. Read the fine print on the donation form, it’s usually disclosed there.
The rest is usually spent on, you guessed it, further fundraising activities. Like paying the administrators and marketing people. Running those heartstring tugging ads in all media. Paperwork and other expenses.
Tax exemptions are a whole ‘nuther thang.
I remember a certain group back in the 90’s that was selling garbage bags via telemarketers for a charity. I’m talking the same ones that you get at Home Despot for $6/box, which they sold for $60-100/box and only 7% of the donation total actually went to the charity they were representing. It was borderline legal to do, but still very deceptive marketing. They kept ‘diaries’ of whom they sold to, ermm secured a donation from, so when things got slow, they’d call them back for another donation.
I’m not against helping people, I do it often. I’m just shining a light on what this ‘industry’ does as a business model. Remembering the phrase “charity begins at home”, know where your $ is actually going and control how much actually goes to helping those in need. Local tends to be more immediate.
That’s Tenmile Lake, I’m up 42, and Tenmile is a little spot with a post office, gas station and Dollar General. About 10 miles from Winston. Don’t sneeze or you’ll miss it. Lol
Still wrenching, just not for that company anymore. Doing all sorts of repairs these days. Now, if I can just get some new clients, I might be able to survive. Lmao
Have you tried that little shop that does its own roast, near Millers At The Cove in Charleston? They do a wonderful job at roasting. Can’t remember the name, as I’ve slept since then.
Prefer the mediums, but that depends on the roaster. Lately, it’s been Costa Rica or Guatemala, single source or estate roasts. Got a local roaster that has a variety of mediums. The Grizzly Claw is delicious.
Two spoons of NDC and a small one of dark brown sugar, as the molasses adds to the flavor, not just sweet.
French press or Keurig, just depends on how much time I have.
Well, from my perspective, we all know what they say about plans. Particularly, Mr. Lennon.
I’m generally up to mischief, though lately, it’s been all about tying loose ends. Too many projects left unfinished. Call it a “pre-Spring cleaning”, of sorts.
Now if we wrote DH style, then there might be issues.
IRL I can be a bit meaner, with a sharper tongue that is dripping with snark, and the tone. Can’t forget the tone. With the weather, and my hat and duster, I’m looking more like Wyatt Earp these days. Not many want to test that theory.
Usually the emails are for more hardware or for new titles being added to whichever channels.
Add Pluto and Tubi ‘channels’ , they’re free, have tons of movies and tv series all for free, with a few commercials. Pluto has lots of classic films that your dad would probably prefer over the latest dreck that Hollywood is pimping.
If the remote has the microphone (mic button) he can voice search by title, genre or even actor. If not, the smart phone app has the voice search.

Hmmmm…
