Malta sounds great, but Bulgaria has great weather at this time of year too. I'm sure it's at least 20 deg.C right now and brilliant sunshine. But here it can get very cold in the winter months. I froze my butt off last year and am busily working on lpg c.h. right now. I was looking at Australia and thinking, who do I know there? Or. who could I get to know there? So I joined a home exchange site last night and will check it out when I get time.
Thanks ever so much for that practical advice. I really appreciate it. Parts of it I can do already - the raggedy clothes, the beat up junker (Bulgarian roads were like a war zone till the EU sent $$$. Then Brussels stopped sending because the politicians in Sofia were too used to divvying up the spoils between themselves and the local mafia. Old habits die hard). So both my front and back bumpers are now partly held on by wire. The money in the passport, a good idea here too. As to the python, I killed a few snakes here in the hot summer we had, 2 of them inside my house. There are 2 kinds, one is bigger and its bite isn't poisonous. The other is about a foot long, it's a viper or adder, and for it you have to grab a suitable weapon quickly. There is an excellent tool here which the locals use and I got myself one too. It's like a hoe but has a big spade-like blade. You just chop away with determination and make sure they can't bite you in the leg before you chop their heads off. I could probably do real crazy too, no bother.
The thing is that I promised myself that I'd stay away from really dangerous places, after a couple of very scary encounters in China a few years ago when I really thought my end had come.
OK, Africa is a big continent, I have to say. It doesn't hare to be Darfur or Zimbabwe, though those places doubtless have their own charm.
That's a brilliant idea by the way with the phone in the old shoe. I'll try to remember that.
Yeah, it's between Vidin and Lom. It's on the Danube. It's 28km from Vidin. Now that the road has been tarmac'd (with taxpayers' money from the EU! ), it's a nice drive through the wooded hills. I had over a ton of aggregate in my trailer, so 2nd gear was required to get up the hill past Mali Drenovets. Fascinating, isn't it?
By the way, your new pic, is there something in the wineglass, maybe a fly?
Well I was outside for a while chopping wood for my stove and the weather's beautiful. In Scotland the headlines would be:
Another scorcher! the country is once again sweltering..... !! And that's when it's 25 deg. C !!!!
It's so easy to forget that last winter I had to get some guys to help me dig my van out of the snow. In fact I couldn't get up the last little hilly bit in spite of 4 wheel drive. Got snow chains now though. The day I bought them the snow miraculously melted. They're still in the box.
Seeking warm climate November -> March. Any ideas ?
