RE: You wont belive this......

Wow! can he get visas so quick for anywhere?

RE: Ok, please explain this to me.

96.765% of approx 50% of the maltese popultion is 100% male. A percentage of those are here on CS (no need to thank us ladies). I don't know how that is for the statistics you require but you have some numbers now and they make as much sense as good government statistics so they must really mean something.

RE: What happens.........

Great posting amelia.

RE: crisis

Ethiopia hit by Coca-Cola drought
[From BBC News]

Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa has run out of Coca-Cola as the credit crunch takes the fizz out of the economy.

The BBC's Elizabeth Blunt in the city says she has known African countries to run out of petrol, soap, sugar, batteries or tyres - but never Coke.

The East Africa Bottling Share Company, which produces the soft drink in the region, last week temporarily shut its bottling operation in Ethiopia.

It said they had the Coca-Cola - but did not have the bottle tops.

The firm, which has sent 1,000 workers on compulsory leave, said in its most recent statement that the Ethiopian government had intervened.

The company promised the familiar bottles would start rolling out of the plant again soon.

National emergency?

Our correspondent says it sounds almost as if the Coca-Cola shortage is being treated as a national emergency.

When she visited a local bar she found it had run out of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Sprite and Fanta. Mirinda was the only soft drink on offer.

It has been estimated that around 35,000 outlets throughout Ethiopia will be unable to serve Coca-Cola and sister brands until the shortage is resolved.

Street children have reportedly been collecting the much-needed bottle tops from the streets of Addis Ababa and selling them back to companies to recycle for around $0.2 (£0.13) a kilogram.

Coca-Cola is normally on sale even in some of the most remote parts of Ethiopia and other African countries.

The continent has been largely spared the worst of the global banking crisis, but it is becoming obvious there are problems finding enough foreign exchange to keep Ethiopia's economy running, says our correspondent.

RE: Does the smoking ban in public places go against human rights?

No it does not. If you want to smoke do so but do not force it on others.

I do smoke but there are times when I want to enjoy what I am doing without the taste and/or smell of burning tobacco. When I am by the sea I prefer to smell the breeze. When I am eating I prefer to taste my food. When I am having a good wine I want to enjoy it. After the meal though I do walk outside to smoke. I also do when I get a pint.

Further to this, the fact that smoking is not good for health is a proven fact and to have non smokers suffer is not just. They should enjoy a public place as much as smokers do without 'The Benefit'.

RE: Reflections

Happy birthday. Great you feel the way you do.

RE: chewing gum

Should the maker of a bread knife be found guilty of murder if it were used for a murder? I think not. This is not a case were a business should show 'social conscience' but more of people being civilised.

RE: What happens.........

Heavenese maybe?

RE: Do you believe in that "everything happens for a reason"

Nothing happens for a reason, unless you give it a reason to why it happened.

RE: florence

Chiesa della Santa Croce

Tombs of Dante Alighieri and Galileo.

Behind the Uffizzi Gallery there is the Museo Delle Scienze Antiche. If you like science and the history of science it is a must. Galileo's Telescope, Alessandro Volta's battery......

Apart from that.......Enjoy the food (VERY IMPORTANT). The Wine. The Culture. The Markets. Talk Italian. Go up the dome. Take a day trip to Pisa, Siena, San Gimigniano. Eat good food (I think I already said that).

It's Florence. You go there and you live it. I've been promising myself to go again for the past 10yrs......... Google 'florence' and I am sure you will get lost in what to do.

Hope you enjoy it.

ps: Do not miss Davide. Go there. Look at the marble. Stare at it. Take it in....and do not forget to breath.

RE: WHAT TRAITS DO YOU MOST DISLIKE IN OTHERS?

Liars, hypocrites, self righteous idiots and people who do not know how to smile and/or take life toooo serious.

RE: How to keep a Woman happy

Hello Ginger. Statistically your reply makes sense. Practically it's a different story. Or I have always met the wrong girls. doh

RE: How to keep a Woman happy

It is also Very Important to remember that 6 months ago she pointed at THAT ring in the jeweler's window while you were driving around looking for a parking and also that she had already told you nine months ago that she is allergic to puppy fur while you were talking to the waiter at that nice restaurant, explaining to him that you wanted to make this meal special for her.

So why the hell are you giving her that other ring with a smaller diamond tied to the collar of a St Bernard's puppy?

I am. Are you?

No disrespect Smoky, but HAVE YOU EVER TRIED TO PINPOINT MALTA ON A GLOBE!!!!!!!

I am. Are you?

A blood donor?

Why give blood? Before giving blood you undergo a small screening test to check if you can give blood. This can uncover potentially serious problems so a regular blood donor would be able to catch a disease at the early stages. Regular is once every 3 months for men and every 4 months for women.

But that's about the donor. What about the patient, the recepient? The patient is someone you do not know and most likely never will. He or she will require your blood or parts of it for a million and one reasons. And thanks to you they just may pull through.

The needles. Yes yes you will be pricked. While I am not going to say it does not hurt (yes I hate needles - promise), I will also say it does not hurt any more than if you cut your finger with a knife slicing an onion. And let's put it in perspective. You are healthy and allowed to give blood. You get pricked once. The receiver of your blood is likely to be someone who is getting pricked many times a day so what you are going through compared to your 'target audience' is nothing.

Some countries pay blood donors but I think the practise is indecent. But that's my opinion. In Malta it is volontary and you get nothing for it except knowing you did something good. Well you do get a coffee and sandwich after the donation.

So how do you go about giving blood? Just call at your local hospital. Most probably they have a blood bank. In Malta it is located in the square in front of St Luke's, on the left facing the hospital.

Giving blood is not a sin. It is not something to be done in dark shadows. When you are going to give blood tell everyone. Encourage people to join. Find a stupid reason to do it. Your birthday. Your friend's birthday. Christmas (before the drinking starts). Your budgie laying an egg. Cooking the perfect roast. Anything.

RE: I Would Like so Much Thread

I have faith in Obama. If he wins it will not be an easy job to get it all back on track but he'll do it. Unless he screws it up big time, he already has a lot of momentum with 'good press' (even international) just because he is not a Republican.

RE: Torn between two lovers

Phheeeewwww. ithought it was going to be whether to have Guinness or lager at the pub. That question always gets me stuck.

RE: I Would Like so Much Thread

After going through the news (US election).... How the *^&% can some people vote for McCain-Palin?

RE: I Would Like so Much Thread

Nice one. Any hint of topic/subject?

RE: I Would Like so Much Thread

I know that what I know is an indicator of what I do not know. So where do I start with 'I would like to know.....'. I know.

I would like to know how some people manage to live through a day and not manage a single smile. I am refering to those people who anytime you see them, or talk to them, they act like they have the weight of the world on their shoulders and if they let a smile, or god forbid a laugh, their plan will fail.

RE: Emergency emergency

About 7kgs...and hair for payment is fine. My bald patch needs 're covering'.

RE: Emergency emergency

I don't mean to intrude but I've got some kilos for sale. Was going to put them on ebay but if the deal can be done here it would save me logging on to another site.

RE: A very good time to invest.......

The press is the worst animal in today's culture. Not just on this crisis but anything major. They hype and inflate all the stories out of proportion. They seem to have forgotten that thier business is REPORTING the news and not scifi write stories around actual facts.

But let's talk about banks, friends, Judas Ischariot, Shylock and Joseph's brothers (the one with the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat).

A few years back I worked in a job that gave me quite a good living. The bank would call me up to try to interest (ie: sell) me investments and opportunites and a lot of other nice words meaning I part from my money and will be given it back and more (and then there was a lot of fine fine fine print). Everytime I walked into the bank they rolled out a virtual red carpet, eveyone would smile at me and nod and soon I sat down the manager would bring me coffee (and this one is not a joke - I remember thinking 'who knows up how many asses his tongue has been').

These days I have a normal job paying a normal salary. Everytime I go to the bank I have to wait in a queue. If I ask for an appointment (or more likely they ask me to call for one) it will inevitably be given a week or two later. And coffee? Last I was at the bank and smelled freshly brewed coffee coming from the manager's office (my same old old friend) they charged me 2 Euros.

Banks have become money making business and not financial services centres. Greed is a word that drives these institutions. They have a lot and want more - and so they come up with all sort of schemes for charging and fining. I guess we all have stories like Rusty's above.

And then the crunch happens. Banks loose money. Investors go broke. Gone are the big villas, maids, Rolexes, shiny BM's and status symbol women. Now they are living in small apartments, washing thier own dirty laundry, wearing Casios, driving Skodas and signing up on CS.

RE: Flying.....

Maybe they were just watching reruns of Fawlty Towers. Remember Manuel...."I kno' nuttin".

Glad the kid made it safe.

I used to work overseas for a while and the company used to fly us on a russian scraptube with wings. I never had so much faith in God.

RE: Who do you think will win the next American Presidential elections? And why?

It's not beyond him and his clique. There was a time after 11/9/2001 (that is written in the European way) when anyday near major holidays (4th Jul, Thanksgiving, Xmas, Easter, etc...) the polls were showing Bush's ratings going down news would be that something had been discovered somewhere indicating a possible threat to the country. His Idiotness' ratings would shoot up.

Phoenix's thing above would not surprise me the least.

RE: have you ever been likened to anyone on tv?

Once Richard Gere was stopped in the street by someone who thought he (RG) was me. On seeing it was obviously not me he told him "Sorry. You look like someone I know". Gere had to go for therapy for 2 years after which he became a Bhuddist.

Of course this was at the time when I had more hair. Now they say I look like a hairier Homer (Simpson).

RE: WHAT`S YOUR MOTTO?

RE: Valletta Waterfront-meet up 27/09/08

I was there. I could not afford to miss a historical event. People will be talking of Marti's sandal for years to come. AND I WAS THERE!
