Instead of complaining - pick up a degree and teach! I wonder how many people really understand the teacher shortage and the effect it has on a child's future education to have to start a school year with a substitute (who often times, has NO educational experience) and then have to also endure a series of subs throughout the year. Some of the reason there are teacher shortages in some areas is because teachers usually get the brunt of the complaints against the education system - so more and more people are opting out of education as a career - and some teachers are leaving the profession due to the stress and pressure put on us for accountability for student performance, when often times there are mitigating factors that are beyond our control...but the public doesn't want to hear that - blame the system, blame the teacher - oh and don't pay teachers well - that helps.
Thanks MF for posting this -- I was just wondering about her a few days ago and she had been in my thoughts for weeks before.
I've just about withdrawn from posting or even visiting this site until something caused me to click on the link and visit - hadn't even logged in and was looking over the thread titles when I saw your post and I just had to log in and add:
I loved her blogs and admired her beautiful writing talents. She is an inspiration to those of us who are cancer survivors. I just wanted to add mine to the long list of words of admiration for a beautiful person who now resides among the stars -- may she live on in the hearts of her loved ones and the ones here she touched. I send my condolences to her sister and hope that she will see all the wonderful, caring and loving comments made here about Dori and that it will give her some comfort and peace.
(I'm 3 months out and only have about 3/4" growth back - but was bald - and yes people stared and made comments! ... but I didn't care ... because I'm a survivor and I lived thru it all.)
I would change the fact that in a child dies every 3 seconds due to extreme poverty and starvation and mostly I'd like to change the fact that no one, no country, no politians are trying to stop it.
It all depends on you. I raised a child from the age of 4 months - almost totally alone - little assistance from his dad, financially, physically and emotionally - (He's 29 now, successful, married, with a child of his own). I can only offer the lesson I learned -- if you put your kids first, you'll make it - if you put yourself first, you'll fail. Remember, the day you gave birth, it stopped being about you. Are you willing to sacrifice for them? Are you? Think. and good luck to you and your kids.
Thanks hun -- I'll be at the get together if my dr releases me to fly again --- I've had a couple radiation side effects that have been giving me a problem -- hope, just hope it'll all be cleared up before the meetup!
I'm wearing all kinds of hats and berets and bandanas too! Wigs were yuk to me -- so didn't even bother to get one.
I'm all done! Feeling better and stronger everyday -- had a few side effect setbacks -- but am overall doing good! Yeah, Suze is great - I downloaded a book of hers from Oprah's website after a show she appeared on - it was FREE - and had the forms needed to get all this info together - showed it to my attorney,dr(s), hospital and banks - all said they worked for them -- so I'm ready...just not right now tho!
Yea, I got it all covered - medical and financial - with all the compliant forms - I reworked my will and got it all thru Suze Orman's website - for free ... all my doctors and my son, brothers, mom - have copies of it all -- so if the worst happens, someone will be able to take over and make medical and financial decisions legally.
Hey MF -- thanks! I know what works for me - and everyone is entitle to find what works for them - we all have our opins and we're entitled to them - no one's place to make those decisions for another - just for one's self.
When I posted before - I included that is was just MY opinion - if you think it's for you - isn't that the only opinion that counts? Good luck to you and he.
