It's funny how he has avoided this thread, seeing as it is his favourite subject. You would have thought that the opportunity to present a well reasoned argument in favour of his views would have been irresistible to him.
Feminism isn't a particular interest of mine, either, Merc. The thread could just as easily have been about erroneous political opinions and arguments, but I didn't want to make it too boring.
Feminists hate men. Feminism is a movement whose aim is to undermine men and bring about a society that favours the interests of women over those of men. Therefore, I am against feminism.
Feminism is a cause that promotes the idea of a society that is fair to women. Feminists believe that women should be afforded the same rights and opportunities as men, and that they should be able to participate in society on an equal footing with men. Therefore, I support feminism.
And one day he might move on from his fascination with feminism.
Strange you should say that, because the question is about authenticity. Lee condemns feminism, and then someone else defends it, but they aren't even talking about the same thing. It's not just feminism, it happens with any subject. An honest and authentic discussion seems to be impossible between some people.
You cannot have a meaningful discussion about anything without first establishing that the participants are at least in agreement about what that thing is. But most people don't want meaningful discussions, they just want to browbeat others with their ill-informed prejudices.
I don't think the right to do any mad thing one wants, is within the generally accepted definition of feminism, Chesney. If it were, I suspect there would be a great many more feminists.
A feminist might be a man hater, but misandry isn’t a necessary requirement of feminism. To point to man hating feminists and hold them up as being representative of all feminists, for the purposes of making an argument against feminism, is to do what a certain misguided individual round here often accuses others of doing. It is called a “straw man argument”, and is a concept the aforementioned individual clearly cannot grasp.
I thought it might be useful to define the basic principles of feminism, so that, should anyone want to make a argument against it, it would be far easier to judge if their reasoning is legitimate.
My understanding is that feminism demands equal rights and opportunities for women. I find it very hard to come up with an objection to that, but perhaps I am unaware of some other -more disagreeable- aspects of feminism.
So, if anyone would like to offer their definition of “feminism”, let’s have it.
It's all very well posting another thread about men being the victims, but just remember; for every man who's paying for a child that isn't his, there's another man getting away with it.
RE: Putting the record straight.
You're welcome.
