I've been a vegetarian for years and hardly eat any eggs at all but... I get my protein from soja, bean sprouts, tofu and also lentils and beans and other veggie products.
I also eat plenty of vegetables and fruit and also take a vitamin B supplement and have none of the problems you mention.
I also used to have the same attitude but...without discussing it, I think it's important to know about the other person's beliefs right from the start, rather than finding out later.
As a matter of fact, about 15 years ago I was serenaded below my balcony, in the middle of the night, by a young good looking man who had a few too many drinks.
Nevertheless, it was a nice thought, although he had woken up all the neighbourhood.
Now, I prefer the more conventional approach, but be impressed by his words..and his mind.
Then...somewhere along the line...after conquering my mind....I like him to serenade me with a song or two on his guitar, or piano.
I entirely agree...students should think for themselves, and not use Google and whatever gadget as a substitute!
When it comes to languages, instead of listening to the teacher for an exanation of a word, they use their google translator for a quick and easy answer.
When I used to teach in a classroom - and still do at times - I tell people to turn all their phones off, and whatever other gadget they use.
RE: Hate, vitriol, food fight and arguments.
Hmmm..I get the picture..But Herbie, aren't online arguments a substitute for your frustrations?
