I've been on and off this site for about 15 years now and pop in and out to make contact with the old timers. Unfortunately some posters on here take exception to the elderly .grin Makes me wonder how they treat their parents to be honest.sigh

So factually you have a disabled car for over 3 hours whilst you top it up with fuel.Let's hope you never need it in an emergency or have a power cut.

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

I did answer your question This is what I posted

"I have friends who have different opinions from myself [ even on here grin ] but I don't class them as my enemy as that is too strong a word."

I don't consider being superior ,just explaining my own interpretation of the word "enemy" and I'm most certainly not interested in pursuing you, it's an open Forum for goodness sake.

However seeing as my presence annoys you I'll go get some lunch and leave you to it.

peace

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

It depends on what you are actually referring to with regards to the word "enemy"

One can have an enemy in an opposing game of sport but it doesn't mean you wish them harm.

How many times have we said" You wouldn't want to make an enemy of me " in the work place or elsewhere ?

Again going back to Latin "enemy " meant a bad friend. Nowadays it has a much stronger meaning and depth than just hostility unfortunately.

Just my personal take salamunahandshake

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

I didn't get hooked on the word. You specifically asked for an opinion from posters and I gave you my opinion regarding the expression ,and ,to hopefully clarify my response I posted the interpretation.

As usual you came back with criticism of me so I'll leave you to it but please refrain from taking "my name in vain" on the forums .

handshake

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

Poking my nose in again but this might helpgrin Not sure about the "enemy" connotation to be honest.

I wish I hadn't bothered to explain .Just had my wrist slapped.doh

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

So why post it?

I didn't need to look it up I was taught Latin at school but there are many foreign speaking people on C.S. who read these posts who would be unaware of its actual meaning.

RE: The friend of my enemy is a priori my enemy.

Morning salamunawave

I have friends who have different opinions from myself [ even on heregrin ] but I don't class them as my enemy as that is too strong a word.

RE: The world should follow the USA lead and also Build Back Better

Oh I see.

Here in the U,K the amount of National Insurance you pay depends on your employment status and how much you earn which covers any N.H.S. treatments and also pays in towards your retirement pension and other benefits.

I have a State Pension plus a private pension as I worked for the Social Services for some years, plus free N.H.S treatment and medication.

All in all it affords me a good standard of living in my dotage.grin

RE: The world should follow the USA lead and also Build Back Better

Please forgive the intrusion in your comment to the O.P. but I assume that you include yourself in that statement Grand ,being from Norway which is Northern Europe.

Why does your "old friend" not ask for himself. Anyone with any interest can read much on other people's history if they want to increase their knowledge and even learn from the O.P. also, as galrads has enlightened me on Retirement pensions in the U.S.

Why have you dragged in J6 yet again when the thread is about illegal immigrants.dunno

RE: The world should follow the USA lead and also Build Back Better

So are you saying that although you are retired you don't receive a pension?????? That is what I was referring to not benefit claims.

When did the U.S "invite" illegal immigrants to America

"Despite the rhetoric surrounding illegal immigration and the Mexican border by the Trump administration, most illegal immigrants living in the U.S are not those who have crossed the border illegally. The vast majority of undocumented immigrants in the U.S are people who have overstayed their visas.

Estimates also suggest that the undocumented population in the US has actually declined since 2005 when it stood at an estimated 12.2 million. The decline in the unauthorized immigrant population is largely due to the decreasing numbers from Mexico, which is estimated to have dropped by 2 million between 2007 and 2017. There has, however, been an increasing number of undocumented migrants arriving from Central America and Asia."

What is your take on the above statement?handshake

RE: The world should follow the USA lead and also Build Back Better

Not strictly speaking true ,as the U.S national debt is not entirely due to immigrants is it.

Are you aware that President Donald Trump is the second-largest contributor to the debt dollar-wise. He added $7.8 trillion to the debt. This was a 39% increase.

Congress knows a debt crisis isn’t far away. In less than 20 years, the Social Security Trust Fund won't have enough to cover the retirement benefits promised to people born from 1946 to 1964.That could mean higher taxes once the high U.S. debt rules out further loans from other countries. That could in turn affect pensioners such as yourself.

Covid also cost your country dearly as it did the U.K. The total cost is estimated at more than $16 trillion, or roughly 90% of annual GDP of the United States.

Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan also contributed to high federal costs.

So not all down to illegal immigrants is it.
handshake

RE: Would you date someone 30 years older than you

Hopefully not M.S.N as no-one would believe us .rolling on the floor laughing

RE: The world should follow the USA lead and also Build Back Better

Immigration is the foundation of America. No other nation has as large an immigrant population as does the United States.

Isn't the Trump family based on immigrants from Germany, and indeed employed many illegal immigrants.

Legal migration between countries has been going on for centuries but of late due to wars etc..has gotten out of hand.handshake

RE: Would you date someone 30 years older than you

My sentiments exactly + 2 more years.grin
