They have to get to these shores first that is what they are being charged extortionate costs for. They can hardly get on the Euro or jump on a ferry can they.
France does it's best but when you have French fisherman exploiting these desperate people too it's pretty difficult. Over the years many people have been arrested by the French and put in jail for people smuggling
This has been going on for years through different ports but Covid is the reason so many smugglers are attempting to get people across at the moment as it has slowed down sea traffic as liners etc are not coming in and out of the Channel as much and we have limited sources for patrolling the waters of the UK.
I too thought about this today Bod. I was almost 6 when this happened. I hope that this horrific act is never ever repeated in anyone else's lifetime. One on Hiroshima was enough without a second on Nagasaki and Britain consented to it..
