RE: what would u do if a sister or brothers ex spouse tried to hit on u.

I don't keep secrets from my brothers, or sister.

I believe that openess and honesty's the best way to be.

RE: "Seeking long teerm lover" - some guy's profile

What have you got to lose by replying to him? Nothing, apart from a bit of your time, as I'm sure you're wise enough to keep your eyes open and avoid getting hurt.

RE: love on the net???!

I guess none of us would be here now if we didn't think it was possible.

RE: He wants a 'furnished' apartment

Also, the usual thing is that just after the divorce, you and your children may have some contact with him, but over time this will become less and less until about 18 months from now when he will have disappeared from your lives totally.

RE: He wants a 'furnished' apartment

Karma3, you have my sympathy. It's not a nice situation that you're in.

Presumably, under Indian law, there's no doubt that you will get custody of the children?

In that case I don't see any reason why he should get a single penny from you.

He won't need any money from you to help raise your children.

He's a grown man not a helpless baby.

Sometimes you have to be firm to be kind.

He needs to learn to stand on his own 2 feet and take self-responsibility for his life. He has the ability to earn enough money to get himself an apartment. Let him use that ability.

You deserve a divorce, where you get full custody of your children, and where you pay your husband nothing.

RE: Why

And why do some men stubbornly refuse to change their minds - even when the evidence presented to them shows them that they should?

Mind you, some womem do that too...

RE: Do you think men over-price themselves?

"You can't tell a book by its' cover. But you can tell how much it costs" - Carter USM.

That smiling, clean shaven hunk in a suit might be a vain unemployed uneducated uncultured lieing low-life bad-tempered violent scum-bag who lives in a hostel.

That unshaven slob in a T-shirt might simply be an unvain, kind, calm, cultured, caring, genius who lives in a 10 bedroomed mansion - who ultimately has every chance of finding and forming a long term relationship with a smart, attractive, slim, stylish, educated lady.

RE: New hobbies for 2009

Recumbent cycling - maybe...

RE: Do you think men over-price themselves?

Yes it's a fine line between:

"looking for blonde, beautiful, rich, intelligent, educated, charming..."

which comes across as "I only want Miss Perfect"

and:

"looking for anyone..."

which sounds desperate.

RE: What makes you the most datable guy/girl on CS

Are you any good at pinball, marriedTOMYjob?

RE: Why are women so fussy about a mans looks?being this way they miss out on a lot of genuine love.

rolling on the floor laughing

RE: Why are women so fussy about a mans looks?being this way they miss out on a lot of genuine love.

There are a few things that you can do to improve your "looks". And they don't involve surgery either:

1 don't worry about what women can do for you. Concentrate on what you can do for the women that you meet

2 maintain a positive outlook and a sunny disposition

3 become a business tycoon and earn yourself a million or two

4 join a band

5 appear regularly on TV

6 become an MP

7 go to Thailand where lots of women will keep telling you what a "hansum man" you are

And if none of that works for you, you could just decide that your happiness does not depend on what women think of you. Your happiness depends upon what you think of yourself - and surely you think you're a very special guy? And being a special guy is reason enough to be happy.

RE: why is it???

It is just like riding a bicycle.

It's just that soemtimes the bicycle is a heavy single speed push bike where you're doing all the work and not getting anywhere fast.

Sometimes it's a Ducatti 1198 superbike - extremely fast but potentially very dangerous.

Sometimes it's a penny farthing which is just a bit plain odd.

RE: Just wondering.

Have you seen the Supernanny programmes?

Lots of great advice in them for when they get a little bit older.

RE: Why do people choose to have children?

There's also "my sister's got one I want one too."

Or "I looked after my nieces and nephews the other day. We had a great time. I want children of my own."

We often desire what other people have.

RE: Why do people choose to have children?

Food and clothing comes to less than $50,000.

Shelter? Surely that depends whether you buy or rent your property?

If you buy your property, you'll have an asset that will go up in value over a period of 21 years.

A lot of costs are childcare and education - with a big chunk at the end for university costs. What, so nobody's children contribute to their University costs???

And don't you get tax rebates / some form of child benefit in the USA, like we do in the UK?

Sure you can spend over $190,000 on your children.

Or you can do it the more economical way for less than $40,000.

Maybe I should start a separate thread explaining how to do it?

RE: child hood memories. sweets/ games

Lovely brother you had.

We didn't do the typewriter in my family.

There was the noisebox though - which is a variation on the typewriter.

Press the nose for a car horn sound. Twist the ear for another sound...

I suppose my dad was a wise man. He used to buy us lots of boardgames to distract us from games like the noisebox or typewriter. The games would keep us quiet for hours on end before an argument would erupt over the rules, or my 2nd oldest brother cheating. Or the game would end and we'd argue over who would pack it up.

RE: what country society group of peopleor civilization as done the most for the advancement of mankind

1 Monotheism = worship of 1 god. EG Judaism, Christianity, Islam.
Polytheism = worship of many gods.

2. The Iraqi's practised year round farming in 5300BC, and had the first known cities. Of course with history this ancient it's difficult to know if they were really the first, or if their culture and technology was based on anyone elses.

3. The Roman legal system is the basis of the British legal system. Roman citizens had the right to a "fair trial" - as opposed to the people in charge being able to do what they wanted with the people under them.

4. Chinese = gunpowder, paper, printing, compass, paper money, windmills...

5. British = James Watt - significant improvements to steam engine. The Stephensons - first proper railways. Jethro Tull, Turnip Townshend and others for agricultural reforms. Hargreaves and others who developed mechanised wool and cotton production. This all happened in the late 18th and early 19th centuries.

America was a British colony till 1783. It didn't develop industrially until the mid to late 19th century and only overtook Britain for industrial output at the end of the 19th century.

7. Japan has limited natural resources. After the 2nd World War, to rebuild their country they concentrated on manufacturing. Toyota introduced some good common sense manufacturing practises. They weren't the first to introduce mass production - that was done by the Springfield Armoury for making guns. But it was the Japanese who perfected the art of mass production and worldwide distribution: cars, electronic goods, motor bikes etc etc. How many Japanese products do you have inside and outside your home?

8. The Egytians continued what the Iraqis started.

RE: what country society group of peopleor civilization as done the most for the advancement of mankind

Ur's in Iraq.

Sumer's in southern Mesopitamia in Iraq.

RE: child hood memories. sweets/ games

What, you used to be his secretary?

He made you type his memos? confused

RE: what country society group of peopleor civilization as done the most for the advancement of mankind

So many to choose from:

The Iraqis. Ancient Mesopotamia. The first civilisation. The first people to drag mankind out of the hunter gatherer existence and into organised cities and agriculture.

The Greeks. Ancient Greeks. First known democracy. Contributions to philosophy. Provided a lot of the technology that the Romans used.

The Italians. Ancient Rome. Their organisation. Legal system.

The Israelis. Monotheism.

The Chinese. So many Chinese inventions. Paper, gunpowder...

The British. The industrial revolution. The start of mechanisation.

USA. First aeroplane. The PC...

The Japanese. Mass production and worldwide distribution of consumer goods.

My vote would go to the Iraqis for being the first civilisation. Without that first step, none of the others would have followed.

RE: child hood memories. sweets/ games

Playing Millionaire with my older brothers when I was 3 years old. Earliest gaming memory.

I couldn't count so I didn't realise I had well over a million pounds and had won the game.

RE: child hood memories. sweets/ games

Played Avalon Hill's D-Day with my dad on Christmas Day when I was 9 years old.

We stayed up till 1am to finish it.

He won.

Best Christmas ever.

RE: The Most Deadliest Weapon

The United States' B83 nuclear bomb is rated at up to 1.2 megatonnes of TNT.

The Hiroshima bomb was only rated at 0.015 megatonnes of TNT.

The B83 bomb is powerful enough to stop a lot of tongues wagging.

So, in my opinion, is deadlier than the tongue.

RE: Why do people choose to have children?

There's also a special love between parents and children.

An unconditional love.

RE: Why do people choose to have children?

Having children is the nearest we get to earthly immortality.

Creating a new person that is genetically half you and half the person you've fallen in love with.

Raising a person that will be deeply influenced by you. That will copy and immitate you. That will adopt a lot of your habits, views and personality traits.

RE: will there ever be a black prime minister of england now ?

Every UK General Election for the past 30 years has been won by whichever party out of Conservative or Labour has had the most physically attractive candidate.

The same thing has happened in the US in their Presidential Elections for the past 40 years.

So, for a black person to win the election would be easy if they were better looking than the opposition. The difficult part would be becoming party leader in the first place.
