I am never guessed to be so old. I wish I could have the skin and such of when I was young. Look at it all and But, so be it. There are perks to just hanging on and not worrying anymore about glamor. Advantage of old age...nothing one can do about it so to heck with worrying about it.

Who says they will. Was talking to a farmer friend. He came to help me re-hang power line from barn. He is a jack of all trades and is able to handle what life throws at him. Runs 3 small farms on his own. He said his nephew went to college to be an electrical engineer. Just graduated his fifth year. Now says, oh not enough, has to do more college. I said who is paying for it...his mother. Farmer says she whines and just keep paying. The nephew is a perpetual college student..too lazy to actually work. Farmer runs the town dump. Said a gas range came in that the owner said quit the oven before one year. Warranty said can't fix, circuit boards not made anymore. He told the kid, why dont you check it out. Oh, can't cause it's gas. What does THAT have to do with the circuit board that starts it? He said too lazy to walk over, just pops out excuses right away. There goes our future.
Biden thinks he will gain votes with give aways. Well, please a few, tick off many fool!

Why cant we hire?

Guess they don't want boomers and that is a way to eliminate them. And then they whine no help. Workers just get dragged by their noses..yassa boss.

Blame greedy colleges. Oh, that degree is not sufficient..well you need to go back and get another one. So end up with a person working at fast food with 4 master degrees. Too many college degrees are not for the real world. How many librarians do we need? Or museum curators. Book peddlers?

Why cant we hire?

I am old. When I wanted a job, I read the ads or signs in windows, heard from others too. Went to the place and got a paper form to apply. Talked to the owner or manager in person. Like two human beings discussing pros and cons.
Now it is all on line. Must have a computer. Must be tech savvy. Apply on the few job sites everyone uses or the temp agencies. Then get pre-screened by some algorithm that boots you out because you answered that essay question wrong.
Companies have gotten so lazy they don't want to bother choosing themselves. And willingly pay a temp agency a part of the wage the worker should be getting to avoid interacting with people
My hated term is human resources. So..you are just another cog like the machinery, the inventory and the building?
And they wonder why they can't hire?
Once a loyal worker stayed forever til couldnt anymore. The owner relied on them and appreciated them. Then it changed to use them up and caste them out. Get another. And another. Use temp so at the end of probation period, kick them to the curb and get another so never have to pay those promised benefits.

What gets me is that the big colleges have endowments in the millions if not billions. Yet they beg money from the government. Those endowments are meant for scholarships, not conventions, new office furniture, and high salary to the top brass.
I knew a guy who worked and saved, had 10K savings. He went to college...older than most. But, he had no interest in living poorly so spent the money on partying and stuff. But, hey, gov and college told him when he got done with it, would get high gov pay job. So no worries. He graduated, got hired and then downsized out. Got ticked and said they owed him for being foolish. So learned how to play at mental and was living on welfare. Said easy, he could teach me how.
Make a choice and pay for it. Don't ask for a free ride off those who work.

Boycott gassed meats

I grew up on this farm. We bought halves of beef locally. Raised sheep and butchered lambs at 100 pounds. When my husband and I deer hunted, I did the meat myself. If temps worked right, hung the deer in concrete garage all winter wrapped in a blanket. Bro-in law was Its rotten. No..it is aged. Showed him in spring, cut dark rind off and bright red inside and super tender. Just like that aged steak at Delmonico's. Chef goes in cooler, cuts off steak, trims off mold and dark and charges $50.
We raised hogs. I feed my chickens nothing but corn and what they scrounge around farm. Eggs are tasty and yolks are orange.
Problem is a butcher shop only sells what farmers raise. I have bought local...pork chops you dont have to fry in oil! Asked her what they feed, hay, corn and table scraps. BINGO!
Marbling is now a dirty word. Try to explain the fat cooks out and leaves the meat tender.
Vegan is a joke..so is organic. Growers want hocky pucks that ship well and last a long time on the store shelf. The food pyramid was designed to benefit the grain markets.

Is it just me?

To cut waste, make things usable after initial one. I save cartons from cool whip, cottage cheese, etc. I still use plates that came with Le Menu meals back in the 70s! I reuse zip lock bags, wash and do til they get icky. Long ago, lots of things were sold in cans and boxes that could be used over by homemakers.
Now they spend more to give less. Outer seals. Inner seals it takes a saw to get off. Stick it in a plastic bag and then into a box double the size. Think we don't know your trick?
Chips drive me batty. One bag can be opened a bit and clipped shut til snack is gone. Others, no matter how carefully one opens, tears down the side. Is their hope it will spill on floor so you have to buy more?
Long ago I saw that shoplifters carried a ring knife. They would take the blister pack off, pretend to examine it and put it back up. What they were doing was slitting the back, removing the item and replacing the empty package.The old saw is where there is a will, there is a way.
Now they just rush in, loot a ton and rush out with no stopping. So the seals dont do anything except drive a real customer nuts!

Goes to show that kids are not being taught how to be social. But, a one line beats the novel some send too. When I met my guy, he wrote well. Simple and polite. I woke back that I had to unload a truckload of stones. He wrote back, hope you got your rocks off. I wrote back, nice pun son. And we are going on over 12 years now.

As I had on profile on another site long ago. To all young men. I will not pay for your college. I will not buy you a car. Marry you so you can come to the US or get you a visa. The only use you would be to me is if you can cut wood, plant fields, fix cars, roof and paint barns. As far as a bed partner I can buy a dog if I want a body to take up 3/4ths of my bed, snore, shed hair and fleas. At least he wont get frisky. And I have my will made out and you are NOT going to be in it.

Boycott gassed meats

Corporate America has found a way to cut waste to benefit stores. A few years ago, they discovered if they filled packages of fresh meat with gas, it would stay longer and look fresher longer. There are a few gases used, carbon dioxide AND carbon MONOXIDE.
Groceries lose money when fresh meats don't sell by due dates. Beef tends to darken with age. Now that is a good thing on carcasses, because it renders the meat more tender. Like that $50 a pound aged steak. But, silly people see a dark steak in the cooler and immediately think..oh, it's bad. Nope. It is natural. Same for ground meats.
A lab found out blowing the package up with gas keeps that nice red color. Way past a normal due date. In a mater of fact, maybe for a month or two or three.
After the gassed meat hit the market, other labs decided to check it out. What they found was the outside stayed red but, decomposition was occurring inside. When a package of hamburger was opened, the center was the usual dark. Opening a longer duration found the center not only dark but rotting. Cutting a steak or roast to the center found the same thing.
The risk is perhaps ingesting those gases. The worst risk is having meat siting in the cooler for way longer than it should and having a happy colony of bacteria that has been growing. In plain language, the risk of eating rotten meat.
I refuse to buy fresh meat from Wallyworld, Aldis, Festival or any store that uses the gassing. I have one local grocery with a meat department that does not gas their meats. If it comes to the fact of them doing it, I will have to shop at a meat packer/butcher.
Another practice that is wrong. When I grew up, we were told to never refreeze meat. If there were still ice crystals in, could, but taste and nutrition suffers. What I found out is all meats are now shipped frozen. Whether a side or cuts. The grocer thaws and cuts or places the thawed in the coolers we buy out of. That is why if I can, I look for the package of chicken parts that still are frozen. Or ask.
I know it is not a hazard, but we still get compromised meats with this habit.
Stores are not our friends. They use gas, shrinkflation, oversized boxes and jars to delude us into thinking we are buying more than we are. And as long as consumers sail along oblivious, they will find more ways to cut costs...for themselves.

All he wants are votes and giving away taxpayers money seems his fav ploy. How unfair to all the people who paid off their student loans or have been paying them down religiously to see others get a free ride now. Plus the joke is the amount is 10K off a 30K loan. Or maybe 20K. If that loan is in the 50K or more bracket, it is a drop in the bucket.
No one forced anyone to take loans to go to college and get a Bachelors degree that qualifies them for a fast food job. I see it around me of all the degrees that never got used for any jobs.
I grew up in the era of must go to college. Didn't. And as years passed and all those kids graduated, a college degree became a dime a dozen. Sorry..don't need another CPA or lawyer in the city. Now they finally have figured it out with all us ancients retired and croaking..who's going to wire that light, clean that septic, fix that toilet, pour that sidewalk, build that addition,paint that house.
There are those who worked their way through college, paid as they went. Those who made a wise course choice and actually got a job in their field and paid off their student loan.
Now they and those trades taxpayers are supposed to pay the loans for those who jumped without thinking.

We tried sleeping in bro-in-laws water bed once. First off, idiot turned it off for the day so cold cause heater took forever. Second he moved, I moved, I moved he moved. Wave pool not conducive to sleep. He finally said sleeping on floor. Maybe I would be Ok alone. I tried. Room on floor, dear..yep.
In morning bro asked how we slept. Fine..you have a comfortable floor. We advised him what he could do with his water mattress. We wondered later how with bros 2-300 pounds he got in and out over the side board.

Ok..?? Nascar is going to race the streets of Chicago. And how do they keep spectators out of harms way? And stop traffic on those streets? Then again..how will it differ from the insane normal commuters?
I suggested to my guy that since he had his Honda up this week, he COULD haul the fenders and box back of my 49 Chevy truck home and finish them and paint them in his shop. And he did. He already has a few gallons of my car paints by him anyway. Although the black he said is gloss acrylic and won't be the satin I want. I said can't you put the additive in? That didn't sound good to him. So it will be what it ends up. Paints are only 25 years old or so. Shook up fine tho. I want the 49 to look like a good old farmers truck, not some restore. I want bronzed black, but will take what I get I guess. Can always try rattle can gold over the black. Trying for a quasi survivor class.

I have some of the dark qualities. Like some of the clothes. But, not the extreme. Like most fads, it is to get attention and stand out..be different. Darkness is a part of life. But, you can't let it overwhelm you.

Dad was 25 years older than mom. Problem was she aged to match him and when he died she was 55 and thought 75. Her life ended when she still had lots of time she could have used rather than sit being a widow.

Or have child proof and safety sealed become enter proof? I went to open the seal on pouring paints for crafts. Pry edge with nail. grrrr....get pliers...get bits of foil. Get knife...wont cut or stab. ARGH! Finally got hole in through foil and plastic liner under foil and no way to cut or tear. sigh...at least did get it open.
Try to open soda bottle. Twist to break seal. It DOES have a seam doesnt it...ooph..ow..finally. Now just tried to open a bottle of Two Good smoothie. No way! OK there appears to be a tear line for plastic wrapper. Finally got it torn off lid and...now snap the cap seal!
I do appreciate the safety seal idea. But, it is getting ridiculous. It is not supposed to seal it for eternity companies! And I am no weakling either! It has to be that caps and seals are getting stronger.

Lily of the Valley, roses, lemon verbena, strawberries and watermelon. Best of all...Star Gazer Lillie's. Except I always forget, stick nose in and end up yellow pollinated.

Because someone let me know that members of our old 60s group came here when Datehookup died. We had used it like social media and had friends on it. I avoid social media and learned that a free site like here is a safer way to see what the world is thinking about stuff. CS is more tightly monitored than other social media sites are so scammers and jerks are not tolerated if enough folks complain. Plus the only way anyone can run across stuff and reply is to be on site. As a recluse this is my link to the real world. And other countries and young folk.

Yep..have to feel sorry for the poor thing. Funny thing is I grew up eating lobsters. Back when they were pricey but not insane. Last time I ate lobster, I no longer cared for it. OK, but to sweet. Crab is the same. Used to like frog legs. Now it is Tastes change with age. Only fav always is a tender, medium rare steak. Porterhouse is best but pass at those prices! Food is food. I tend to eat what hits me in the head when I open the freezer.

What is wrong is that Disney wants to be all inclusive by changing movies and books that had specific characters. And in the process, destroy them. Fiction is fiction. Use some NEW fiction stories. Next Abe will be black and Washington took a steam boat across the river. Where does it end.
Some of the best movies have been picking what was a minor character in a book and making a movie from their perspective.

I cry why couldn't my precious girl have lived that long. But, she was doomed by breed. Half black Lab and half Golden Retriever. The Goldens are known for dying of liver cancers. 11 1/2 years old. And that is how old my girl was.
How could someone get rid of an old dog like that. Sad. At least has a chance with you.

Unreal. So the Springs has a real meet now. Lived there in 1970. Ex was in army at Fort Carson. Cars on base never sold to other than soldiers. Guy ETSing sold it to a new grunt coming on base.We used to cruise up Nevada Blvd on Friday nights...pay days best. There was a dry cleaner/laundry that closed by 5. Had a nice parking lot. Cool cars would park there when not cruising. First 59 Chevy panel I had seen. We had the 59 Ford wagon and 48 Dodge 3 window. Still have the 3 window. Ford is long gone. Good old days being young and free. Well, kinda of free. No parents to listen to. Some of those cars were really tricked.
