Yes to the first part about being best friends for life. Not so sure about the 2nd. Sometimes being best friends precludes having any other type of relationship. You just don't see the other person in that light.
Thanks for the info! Some of the things you brought up are exactly the kinds of information I'm looking for. Who else has done it and what were the problems they encountered after the move. Some of my big questions apply specifically to an U.S. citizen moving to an EU country. From what I've read so far, seems we're only allowed to stay 3 months at a time unlike EU citizens who can freely move between the countries. Lots of other issues such as health insurance, ect that need to be addressed. Not going into this with blinders at all.
Thanks dude!! Something I hadn't even thought of. And yeah, the way of life is what I'm looking for more than anything else. Tired of the rat race here!
Thanks for the input! Got a small start on learning Greek and figure to do a lot more if this happens. As far as starting a business, I'm a carpenter by trade so can work most anywhere. Lucky that way. Love the people and the culture so thats a big plus as far as I'm concerned. The people are fantastic!!
Sorry dude, don't agree. What do you mean that the government is driving people nuts? 10 years ago I could leave my house/car unlocked. Doesn't happen now unless I want everything inside to disappear! That has nothing to do with the government and all to do with families and how they raise/ educate their children. I'm sick and tired of everyone blaming all their problems on the government. Brainwashing kids - hardly likely!! More like no parental involvement so the kids run wild! Government directing them into atrocities? Where, when, and how. Give me a break!!!
Don't know about Europe, do know there was no S.S. in Ecuador, just charity.
And as far as I know, most other countries have govt. provided medical care, at least they do in France and England, and even Cuba.
Did I enjoy the country? I loved it. It's crazy, but every now and then I get "homesick" for Quito and the food. Even the dancing, cafes and stores were so much different and lovely in the own way.
I have thought of moving down there, but the economy is completely different, and I have family in the states.
I say move, especially if that is what your gut is telling you.[/quote
Tell you what. Crete was probably the most beautiful place I have ever been. Everything about it just calls out to you - the people, the culture, everything. Just can't get it out of my mind! Looking into the possiblity of buying a place there with a friend of mine from England. He's gung ho too so it might just take off. So many things to look at though it gets daunting at times. Not enough to make me give up the dream tho! Lol!!
Lol!! Yeah, to a point. I guess what I'm really interested in is more how much you enjoyed being in a different country. Understand the language thing and am working on that. More things like health care, taxes, ect.. How about S.S.? Problem collecting overseas? Greek law says only 90 days for non EU citizens. Is there a way around that?
Sorry, don't believe that. Clintons wife didn't forgive him; she just didn't want to kill her political ambitions by filing for divorce. Once trust is lost, you never get it back no matter how hard you try.
Hey dude! Don't have a problem with how things are now. Do we have as much freedom as we did 10 years ago? No, probably not, but then its a more dangerous world then it was 10 years ago; violence seems to be a way of life now. I think/hope it will get better as we (the world as a whole) works through the problems we face now for example hunger, education, ect. At least I hope so.
First new thread for me so bear with me please. As some of you know I recently went to Crete on vacation. Can't get the place out of my mind and am seriously thinking of buying a place there and eventually relocating. Who else out here has relocated to a different country/culture and what kinds of problems did you encounter?
RE: Write a line------that has inspired you , from whatever source.
"Be all that you can be." Can't remember where from.
