if someone were to tell you they had some sort of imaginary friend you'd say they were nuts....but when a million of you have the same imaginary friend it's called religion....tis so stupid
The human race won't grow up until it gets over these silly superstitions and crazy ideas that there's some sort of god out there....
Oh that sounds interesting..I'd watch that. Do you know what it's called by any chance? If it's on the iplayer then I can't watch it...can't be bothered with havint to set up an account
If he did start teaching Bhuddist teachings then where would he have learned it or picked it up? Hardly whilst surrounded by all Jewish ....So he probably did have to go and live with them (in India, Tibet etc) for a time.
Information and knowledge back then wasn't even remotely as freely available as it is today and took a long time to learn. I remember pre-internet it would take me years to learn a subject in sufficient enough depth before I'd have considered myself even remotely knowledgeable...that's a lorra lorra hours spent reading...and back then there were no books full of condensed knowledge and definitely no books giving an alternative view or further explanation that you could cross reference, it was probably all word of mouth ...so even slower...so 18 years sounds reasonable time to really get in depth..considering he would have had to do a lot of (very slow) travelling around as well....
Entirely possible I guess, and if there was a Jesus who was attracting large crowds he probably just wanted to get away from the clamouring crowds, same as today's celebrities..
Ireland used to be called the land of Saints and Scholars and monks used to travel from all over the world to Ireland. There's a little village called Mayo Abbey and it was world reknowned among scholars. The wealthy, scholars and monks travelled from all over the world to spend time there. So it's easy to accept Jesus would have done the same thing but just a different country and different religion. Never know, maybe he went to Mayo Abbey as well..now that'd be funny
Pike? Crikey, you're a braver woman than I am.... I used to catch them as a girl, in a nearby lake, and once I brought one home. My mother warned me I wouldn't enjoy it but I kept going, gutted it, cleaned it and cooked it... She was so right, .it was awful, full of bones, even worse than sardines and it wasn't even that nice to taste.. They're a nasty fish and I dont' mean to eat, they're vicious things whilst alive....will even go for you in the water if you're not careful....
I can't remember if I read it or watched something on tv about this years ago (think I read it)....must be at least twenty years now. But they did look into the possibility of a Jesus having existed who went through the Pontis Pilate trial, carrying the cross, ,crucifixion ect...and they concluded it's entirely possible those events did happen, but to more than just one man....as those things were quite common....and "Jesus' life was proably based on actual events...But (personally I and they did too if memory serves) draw the line as his being the son of God etc...
Another one (different one) was where they looked into the seven plagues (if that's the correct name) The famine, plagues, disease etc > I can't remember them all now...but apparently , according to the historians, geologists etc they arrived at the same conclusion too, that the biblical story was most likely based on actual events...
I'm sure there were plenty of Jesuses (that's deliberate)....same as there are lots of Paddies in Ireland. Johns in England and Francoises in France....and plenty of them crucified an all I'm sure. Doesn't make any of them sons of God though
