Exactly. Surely, no-one can possibly accuse this man of being irrational in his summation of the R'n camp. He, better than anyone, can vouch for the gross limitations of the Republican foreign policies and how were inflicted upon the world by the Bush Administration for which he served. Weapons of mass destruction, my @#$%.
I understand the health care reforms will all be tossed out if MR gets in, with nothing to replace it, though not sure of latter. It will be a world wide scandal if that happens.
...Nothing like the U.S. elections to bring a gal back to a singles site(very temporarily)
...I present only views and opinions provided through a highly reputable U.S. newspaper, 'The New York Times'(though I reserve the right to comment on them like anyone else....after all, the U.S. election results tend to impact on the larger global community...by the way, anyone recall which party started the Iraq war because of, oh that's right, Saddam Hussein's weapons of mass destruction?
From the NY Times Editorial dated 4/11/2012
If Congressional Republicans get their way, expiring cuts in the estate tax for America’s wealthiest families will be extended in 2013. But under their cruel plan, enhancements to tax credits for low- and moderate-income working families, which are also set to expire at the end of the year, would end....(see link below for full article and others...)
Oh, and... October 25, 2012, 12:28 PM Colin Powell Endorses Obama By ANDREW ROSENTHAL
'It turns out that Mitt Romney has not managed to snare every member of the Bush administration national security team that brought us the pointless and bloody invasion of Iraq, Abu Ghraib and the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
He missed the one high-level team member who actually realized what catastrophic mistakes those decisions were – Colin L. Powell. “I think we ought to keep on the track that we are on,” Mr. Powell said on CBS this morning. “I voted for him in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012....'(see blow for the whole article)
They're getting to see their doctor much quicker than I would see mine in the city! I would have to wait about 4 to 6 weeks to get into my usual doctor and I have been with his centre for years. No matter. I just go up the road instead. Literally 3 houses up. I get an appointment that the same day if need be(re a bike accident last year, touch wood, ok otherwise). If I wanted to I could go 6 houses up the road, or I could walk 200 meters and get to 2 large medical centres.....
In any case, you did say 'routine'. For anything non-routine, the person gets to be seen that day, though they might need to wait. Or be seen at the regional/rural hospital with no waiting time. I do know what I am talking about first hand, no need to turn to statistics.
No-one is saying our system is perfect, which is why our government is continually addressing these issues, which is what President Obama is trying to do. And what an uproar it's caused. To think it had to get in front of the Supreme Court to get a ruling on whether these changes constitute a tax. Sheesh!
By the way, we have many Indian and some African doctors working here and they are doing a great job to fill our need especially in the regional areas of Australia. Our system isn't perfect but the main issues relate to us having a small population, not a lack of desire to address the shortages.
How about everyone let the new health changes take their course and see how it all pans out. Perhaps along the way, people might even notice some benefits, though I highly doubt that those with such blinkers on will ever allow themselves to do that.
But then you are in Canada, so you won't be directly affected.
Ummm, sorry, but 'putting down' is what the likes of you are doing. It is us foreigners that are applauding what your President has achieved. Jeez.
All we see on this thread is one comment after another of Americans bagging their own President, the health reforms(while not perfect, but what is?) he is trying to implement and half of the population with it. And you have the gall to point your twisted finger at foreigners who are taking the trouble to look think about these issues. And guess what, we take an avid interest in the rest of the world, especially the U.S. because we are still reeling from the global affects of how your banking system and big corporations, screwed the entire world over not too long ago.
As one foreigner speaking to another, here I go again explaining something you have managed to convolute so well...
When I say 'up the road', I mean just that. We have many high quality large medical centres that bulk bill 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week in metropolitan areas, so high quality medical care at-no-cost-on-the-day (see, I didn't use 'free' - other than annual levy at income tax time, a dirty word in the U.S. I know - but then you're in Canada...)is available in these centres to EVERYONE regardless of income level. All you need to present is your Medicare card.
As for the millions of miles of roads, along the way, even in the Red Centre, smack bang in the middle of the Aussie desert, you will find high quality medical care, and again, bulk-billing is the norm for low income earners especially.
Yes, I still maintain it is a storm in a teacup, by the way. Relatively speaking, looking at the broader picture, taking a long term view, thinking of the higher good, yadda yadda...
We all know he won't be able to drop the tax, just as Labor did not and could not drop the GST once it was in place. It's not just the reintroduction of a new tax, but all that is attached to the carbon tax in terms which includes not just 'handouts' as you put it, but genuine changes to income tax laws which put money into the pockets of millions by lowering thresholds in very real and meaningful terms. Not a simple thing to 'drop the tax'.
I don't 'trust' the news media, other than some very good sources provide well informed balanced points of view. Tell me though, how many of the millions who live there can actually make truly informed comments. Judging from comments on this thread, most of the Americans responding(I won't include Canadians as they don't live there and therefore cannot be considered as knowing what is going on in your country)there is little informed opinion, but mostly emotional, irrational rants. So I really don't know what advantage these people have over foreigners such as myself. At least I am making an effort to go to the original documents such as the PPACA and read them for myself(not in whole and very slowly I might add). How many non-foreigners are doing that?
Goodness, where do I start? Your definition of 'alternative' is only one of many. Some would say living the life of the Amish is the only real alternative lifestyle. We know there is everything inbetween. I was merely making a point that along the way, we still choose what degree of 'alternative' we want to live.
Well, holding a grudge against a decision made by a politician that hurt your once extremely wealthy hip pocket sounds like it has blurred your ability to judge all other decisions, possibly very good ones. I still don't know your position on carbon tax from your emotional rant.
As for you referring to me as a spoilt brat? How so? Everything I have I achieved on my own(except for creating my son). This includes having my little place in Italy which ONE day I hope to afford to live between the two countries. But when I do, it will be from my own efforts. Check your rear end Twinbro. You seem to have something stuck up there.
I looked at your profile. You say you smoke 'regularly'. Bet you also like your beer. No wonder your fridge and pantry are bare. Look at your priorities. Then you have the gumption to blame the bloomin carbon tax. Jeez, boy can some people pile it on thick!
As they say, you can fool some people some of the time, but not all people all of the time.
Yes, we pay for it. Each Australian pays a small levy (note, it's not a tax!lol)that goes towards paying for all these services. As I said, they are not generally completely free. No-one complains though. If someone cannot afford to pay a gap, they go up the road and find one of a number of high quality bulk-billing medical centres.
But then we don't have a technicality in our constitution that people hide behind and where they cry foul only because it suits monetarily.
As for costing a lot of money, there you go again. More than the cost of all the wars you wage? Good. Money better spent, don't you think. At least after a few years, I understand that this new system of yours will have paid for itself and then actually start to generate money. Wars will never ever do that, let alone all the lives lost. Anyway, your President is poised to pull out of Afghanistan soon enough, so that will help boost up the coffers.
Let me qualify that by adding that for those who can afford it, there is a gap payment, which varies depending on the service and the provider. The rebate applies for everyone.
What I can't understand is this: Call me stupid, but if scientology is so important to Mr Tommy baby, why does he persist in marrying ladies who care nought for Scientology, where he then spends his time haranguing them into compliance towards their beliefs which they clearly do not want to share.
Heavens to heavenly Martians, you'd think he would know by now that he should woo some lady from the global scientology pool. Or maybe these ladies have all been abducted by the aliens and are on some intergalactic journey so that there are none left for him.
Anyway, a storm in a teacup, innit? All because the wealthy who pay a relative pittance in income tax, do not want to part with a tiny bit more. The word tax seems to have the same effect as sprinkling holy water onto a demon-inflicted soul.
You might wish to know(though let me not assume so much) that all this stuff about Medicare and freely available REAL medical treatment for all, not just if you are a hypochondriac in ER, is SO yesterday. We have been there, done that years ago and it works in you beaut fashion here. It includes free mental health care when a referral is made by a medical practitioner for both children and adults....We are now way past that. On Saturday, Australia introduced the Carbon Tax. And here you are squabbling about health care!
I know what the word 'hypochondria' means. It seems that you do not. Someone suffering from this, only believes he/she is suffering from a particular ailment. They do not actually display real medical signs and symptoms of the disorder. So I'm baffled as to how you observed symptoms of a cold in these people who you describe as suffering from an un-real illness, where by defintion do not have the actual physical symptoms. Perhaps you imagined them, which would likely mean you were delusional at the time, in which case you might have been in the right place at the right time.
That sounds a bit rich. I have been to your country several times. It is the simplest thing to buy all kinds of everyday meds over the counter. Meds for colds are in abundance. No-one would go to ER for a simple cold. If they were there, I'd say they would be suffering from the real deal, influenza, which tells me they probably had been rejected from their doctor's office. Isn't this what the new changes wish to avoid??
Surely you want to celebrate the fact that your ER departments will soon be freed up to do what they are there to do. Treat real emergencies!
By the way, I will be making it my job to go through the key nuances of the new PPACA(total of 974 pgs so I won't be reading it all!). A American pal on here has challenged me.
The more rational U.S. election thread...
Hi monte,I think we all do. Couldn't possibly manage without it.
nice to see you, hope you're well.
