RE: For those 50 & older......

Hi paws, it's nice to have a man express himself so openly and for all to read...thank you. A topic on the minds of many a 50+'er.
May 2012 be your year.wine

RE: STRALIA DAY

Correction, newlife...Straya laugh: cheers

A day at the beach sounds like a great idea.

RE: STRALIA DAY

Perhaps they might have, but I'm not as well inforrmed as you are, to know whether the French or Dutch were better marksmen...Or whether they had worse diseases that might have killed off even more aboriginals..:)

As for delusion about the English etc...Boy, the English language is more versatile than I ever thought. How you extracted that interpretation from my post can only be evidence of a really creative mind, wash2...sorry, but you lost me! rolling on the floor laughing

RE: What is your NY's resolution gonna be???????

My NYR is in the plural. Many things and very specific ones.

First one I'm tackling head on today...Clearing my home of clutter. I started with my wardrobe and bagging clothes either to take to recycles shops/charity bins. I got carried away with a real purge and now have very little left laugh

I was well rewarded for my efforts, however...

At the bottom of the wardrobe, amongst many things, lay a small shoulder bag I haven't used in about 3 years. On the front verandah, before turfing it out, I set about going through its contents. Inside tightly wrapped tissues I found 4 X $50 notes..laugh

RE: STRALIA DAY

You've done it now, AA...quite obviously it's not just seizure activity that is triggered!!uh oh

(a victim of your own deviceslaugh

RE: STRALIA DAY

Think of all the carbon credits you owe Ms gillard, AA, after your role in helping to further destroy our electronic forests. Act responsibly, AA...roll eyes

laugh
(besides which, you could trigger off seizure activity with all the scrolling down!!!tongue )

RE: RED DOG

Yes, a couple of sad parts, but then what would a film about a real Red Dog, be like without those bits included? If you're feeling a bit tender still, as I think you might be after your boy's passing which I recently read sad flower I think you might want to wait a little while before you watch it. Otherwise, some tissues at hand and it might be a healing time nonetheless.

I watched it the other day and showed it to my parents also....It is nicely made, though and real true blue Aussie 70's with an outback mining town backdrop. The screenplay is based on the book, which is based on the real red dog.

RE: STRALIA DAY

Not a happy memory/occasion for our Indigenous folk...For them it represents a time of great sorrow, when millions of their ancestors were massacred or wiped out through introduction of diseases.

Otherwise, yes, proudly fly the flag australia...No doubt we will hear from our Lambassador, Sam Kekovic any tick of the clock, to truly mark the occasion.

RE: "What's On For New Years Eve?"

New Year's Eve itself, I can take it or leave it. I have slept through many a countdown...Some of the best ever New Years for me I have spent sipping champers under a starlit sky when I used to have a beach shack at one of our southern beaches, either alone or one other person - once with lots of bodies everywhere after partying on the beach at 3am.laugh

It's the morning of 1st January each year, that I prefer to celebrate as a ritual, and usually by hiking up(the more gentle!) cliffsides of Morialta Conservation Park or similar. I figure it's my way of acknowledging and being grateful, that I can still do such things.

A safe New Year to all.

RE: RED DOG

Yes, I think it's refreshing to have Red Dog up there. And it showcases what can be achieved in close partnership between humans and canines. Just gorgeous seeing Koko, the main 'Red Dog' in the film, on stage basking in the film's glory. Love it.

RE: Controversial threads

I guess that inane topics can only go so far in terms of enticing participation...but then, each to their own in how one chooses to participate.

RE: RED DOG

I'm really looking forward to watching it. Might look for it at the video store and take it to my parents' so they can watch it too.

I understand it is one of the official Aussie film entries in the Berlin Film festival, I think in early 2012. Wishing it every success. Such a raw grass roots Aussie kind of film...and a nice change form the scary Wolf Creek variety!

RE: How much did you spend on pressies?

OK, a good ol' Aussie song to the rescue..laugh

Well done to you, daggy...and congrats on your new relationship. May it grow and blossom daisy

RE: Procrastinating singles

Same here. I really don't function very well when things are in such chaos around me for too long...too draining on energy levels.

RE: It's MEET time!!

Looking up conferences in NZ..laugh

RE: Procrastinating singles

Yes, I'm in that phase right now. Could be full moon coming up...drives me into nesting behaviour...Once I start, I can't switch it off...until quarter moon maybe..

RE: Financial Armageddon

RE: Financial Armageddon

it's panic which makes any pending financial crisis all the more likely. Aised and abetted by the media. Not to say there aren't real concerns today. Obviously there are. But fear and panic go a long way to worsening an edgey situation, as we have now. Decisions that might be made with a cool, level head, are not, and often, the opposite.

RE: It's MEET time!!

Why? Will it be a tax deduction??laugh

RE: Procrastinating singles

I think there's a name for that...

Gonneritisuh oh

RE: Procrastinating singles

p.s actually, subconsiously, it was the thought of dying and looking down and hearing my son and family cursing me!!laugh

RE: Procrastinating singles

Well, for me, I had reached the point where I couldn't bear things the way they were any longer. For over a year, I couldn't do much about it as I was full on with work and study...The thought of ending the year in such chaos is not something I accept.

I know what I want and keeping on doing the same is only going to give me more of the same. We all know that, but...So I took one step which I knew would act as a catalyst for so much else. I picked up the 'phone and booked a taxi truck for the next morning, being a Saturday. The truck company was closing so I wouldn't be able to call them and change my mind... Suddenly I had overnight to get everything ready, there was no way out. So I guess, it amounts to making a commitment and carrying it through(sometimes forcibly!).

That got the ball rolling...I then started to do the same with a couple more procrastinations which gave me rewards, such as satisfaction knowing the shrubs will flower...Plus I want good energy around the place, not stagnating energy. So much nicer.

So pick somthing, any action, that you know will get the ball rolling for you in some area of your life. Dare yourself, and do it. Something akin to taking a hammer to your bathroom tiles...Once you do that, you kinda have to finish what you start!laugh

RE: Procrastinating singles

I've been doing that since Friday... tackling my procrastinations, one by one. Only problem is, now that I'm on a roll, I've about 50 things on the go!!!...

Just called my son to come and help me shift furniture around, as I've started on my large lounge/dining room. He says he will but he's tired..didums!...My writing corner is revamped and so comfy now...

Yesterday I bought native shrubs and plants to give some life and colour to the the outdoors, plus veges...yesterday morning got a taxi truck to remove office furniture out of my home and back to..errmm..the office as it's vacant anyway!

I'm going to book a garage sale for next weekend, and so on....
It's like I've opened up a hornets nest. Now that I've gained momentum, it's kinda taken on a life of its own and I can't stop it!!doh

What are you tackling daggyone?hmmm

(Besides, I was struck with the thought of what if something happened to me and I died...Jeez, what a mess I'd lieave behind...how embarrassing, as I look down and see and hear everyone's comments cursing me!!!)

RE: ASTEROID QQ47

Reuters
"asteroids to hit earth"

By Irene Klotz
SAN FRANCISCO | Thu Dec 8, 2011 8:03am EST

(Reuters) - About 1,000 asteroids big enough to cause catastrophic damage if they hit Earth are orbiting relatively nearby, a NASA survey shows.

In a project known as Spaceguard, the U.S. space agency was ordered by Congress in 1998 to find 90 percent of objects near Earth that are 1 km (0.62 of a mile) in diameter or larger.

The survey is now complete, with 93 percent of the objects accounted for, astronomer Amy Mainzer of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, said at the American Geophysical Union conference in San Francisco on Tuesday.

Using NASA's recently retired Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) telescope, scientists also found about 20,500 smaller asteroids near Earth.

Previous studies estimated there were 36,000 to 100,000 of these objects, which have a diameter of about 100 meters (110 yards).

"They could still pack quite a punch," Mainzer told Reuters, adding that "any impact is not a very likely event."

But a major asteroid strike could and has happened.

An asteroid or comet between 5 and 10 km (3.1 and 6.2 miles) in diameter is believed to have smashed into Earth some 65 million years ago, triggering global climate changes that led to the extinction of dinosaurs and other animals.

"We know something that big could wipe out mostly all life on Earth," Mainzer said.

Scientists are now using archived WISE observations to home in on potentially hazardous objects whose orbits come within about 4.6 million miles (7.4 million km) of Earth.

So far, there is no plan about what to do if an asteroid was discovered to be on a collision course with Earth.

let's leave poor Lookin out of this shall we?...You don't need him as acrutch, now do you?grin...

Where was I...Oh, yes...You might well be a treasure, Prowler...perhaps you're just hiding it really well from the Aussie ladies, saving yourself for the Swedish beauties frothing at the mouth awaiting your coming.

RE: HeY LooK'N

Sounds like a plan, Prowler...I bet all those gorgeous slim, blonde Swedish, long-legged beauties are declining all dates coming their way, as they wait for the coming of you and Lookin.

RE: Security in a Relationship?

Hi markizam, aren't you a fabulously wonderful person?......
Of-course your answer is YES!

So why do you choose to believe that you won't find someone just as wonderful?
