What reading appeals to you most?

Wow, that's fantastic, washu2...it seems that you pretty well read anything possibly worth reading. What a joy though...or do you have some fav type of books.

A very good idea of yours, to have some strategic break points along the way. A bit like ad breaks on television, except not so many, lol

Wish I hadn't serene. I found out that I never got to absorb the power of the mother uh oh...that is, unlike most other little girls, I never had dolls in Italy as a young child. Apparently, it is by playing with dolls that girls 'introject' the mother's power and hence gain control over their mother.... So it seems I missed out on this really important!! crying

RE: Summer Holidays

No, I was thinking after a few hours.laugh

Just kidding. I can't imagine any need for foul gestures or enforced 'ferma la bouch' situations.

Ah, Biggles!! Gee, that takes me back. I was class library monitor in year 4 or 5 I think, because I was known to love books. It was up to me to select books for the class for both girls and boys. Guess which ones I included for the girls???laugh ...to his credit, the old codger of a teacher, allowed my choices to stand.thumbs up

You know what else they've banned, and that's most if not all of the Noddy books. How dare they just because of the character 'Big Ears' and others. It's a book for goodness sake. Just like gollywogs. That's what they are called, why pretend otherwise??

About the retreat, most definitely. I need to start promoting them properly very soon on my website and maybe specific mags, very soon for the next Euro summer..such as week long stop smoking retreat or simply some R&R, with some touring around. Will be good fun. Coming?cheering laugh

Thanks for your comments, serene. I know what you mean on reading about other people's lives, particularly in how they deal with challenges that confront them.

About e-books, I haven't got into them, but I know of that young lassie who has made millions, literally, with her e-books about vampires and the like...She has done well through that medium.

I love holding a book though, but having said that, I do lots of research on the internet and d/l many a pdf file.

Interesting you mention trevelogues...I'm thinking of detailing my upcoming adventures through Puglia and my journey in how I got my lil place there. Not sure if there would be much interest though. I will give it more thought on how I could deal with the topic. it is like being in another world, though.

Could you explain 'awakening' in relation to Oliver Sacks? Ta...
Wow, now you've got onto a very interesting topic, that of psychoanalytical theories...listening to a Lucy Holmes video now, 'Schizophrenia treated without medication'...thanks for alerting me about her. So many people poo poo Freud, but a lot of his theories are still alive and manifest in people today. Use the Rorschach inkblot tests and you know all about it.

In terms of my project, it's not allowed to be straight academic writing. Mind you, I wouldn't attempt anything of the sort, as there are so many learned people doing it better than anything I could contribute in that genre.

No, I haven't seen that movie, but will find it and do so, given you recommend it so highly. Also, the book, will do the same.

Tell me, how did you develop such interest in those topics you mentioned, such as schizophrenia, memory disorders.

Not in the least, AA...thanks for posting your preferences.

Essentially, they are all under the non-fiction banner, with some which would lean more towards creative non-fiction.

With the 'medical', are you referring to academic type texts or more like Oliver Sacks' fabulously entertaining book 'The Man who mistook his wife for a hat'. He's a neurosurgeon with a difference. Boy, can he write well!!

cheers
p.s. I had originally chosen the screenwriting option, but I don't think I'm anywhere near writing a screenplay for feature film or equivalent. I'm still reworking one for short film cos I have a lousy plot!laugh

Hey folks, I'm finalising my proposal for a major writing project and I need to settle on something pretty smartly!...I have some ideas but I'd love to hear yours. We need to include a marketing package in the final draft, one which has wow factor written all over it, so I need to get it right, from the outset....no pressure!!doh

So...what type of book would you head for?

1. Novel(fiction)
2. Collection of short stories(fiction)
3. Reflections about the writer's life/travel/experiences
4. A tongue in cheek, humourous self-help book dealing with women's (mainly)mental health and well being, with writer's self-revelations thrown in...
5. Any others related to creative non fiction or fiction.

Many thanks and look forward to anyone's opinion if you get a chance.
cheers peace
any thoughts on e-books? Who buys them, or who prefers to buy hard copy books, but online? ...I buy many books online, but not e-books.

RE: Get into safety

I probably shouldn't post here as I am no expert in financial markets, but I am fascinated by the psychologsy of trading. I agree with you about the markets being a reflection of the social mood. Mass panic does wonders, too. Mind you, a lot of people make a lot of money as they did recently, in selling off just before the big drop, then they back in really cheaply and wait for the rise again.
(I could kick myself not being quick enough at this point).

I don't know about Queensland, but there is something really horrid happening in the SA real estate market. I don't have much time to devote to it, but I am licensed so I am slightly involved. The market has slowed hugely, but frankly I think a lot of that is due to people's mental attitude and largely irrational beliefs about what is really happening. As an investor and first home buyer, it still makes sense to buy when properties are still relatively affordable in the lower end. I had a potential buyer of a property of mine, an engineer, just last week use the words, 'this recession'...I thought, what recession?? Sure, things are a bit tough, but jeepers, I wouldn't say we were in a recession here in Australia.

Having said this about investors and first home buyers, about putting super into cash equivalents wherever possible right now. Best of all, self managed funds might be a lot of work, but at least you have control and an interest in making your money grow and at least TRY and keep it safe. Unlike many super fund managers, happy to let your money go down the gurgler with irresponsible investments of others' money.

Anyhoo.... lots of work the next three days, a proposal due 5pm Monday. Ideas are flowing, but not yet amounting to anything mumbling

RE: Put them all down

As always, there are exceptions to the rule.

One such is a small black American pitbull, owned by my girlfriend of mine who is a psychologist. The hound suffers from one of the worst cases of separation anxiety I have seen in any animal for a long time, in addition, severe social phobia. At the sight of a stranger, he runs for cover, ususally hiding behind R's
20 something daughter!!!..doh

Completely appalled, I brought my (highly sociable) border collie cross over a couple of times, so that they could take the poor thing for a walk with us and get him socialised... frustrated

RE: PSYCHOPATH - The Mask of Sanity

Sorry, daggyone, but the term 'psychopath' is so yesterday.

You might want to check in a copy of the DSMIV-TR...you will not find 'psychopath' in the list of mental disorders.

.....

Perhaps it was deleted because too many people might have thought that small business owners were a bunch of axe murderers.
hmmm

RE: Strong Independent Women

Something like that, serene. I don't like to argue, that is, fight, but I do want 'my' man to be able to 'handle me', to be my equal. having said this, it's important for both people to know when to zip up. Talking for the sake of it, is wasted breath.

RE: Strong Independent Women

I recently posted on the Inters on a thread where the OP stated that most people are afraid to speak their mind...I wrote that I have no such trouble(mostly) saying what I think and feel.

The OP said I was an unusual case and that men must be afraid of me.

I can't identify with that as they are not the kind of man I know or associate with in my personal life.

I didn't think I was that much of an ogre. very mad

RE: Music that you listen to over and over again!

RE: Lovers and Foods

I think it's possible for a while, or a short term reason for having different foods at meal times, but as a long terms arrangement, it would be difficult and unworkable. It would be ok for say, breakfast or even lunch but for main meals, it's really nice to be able to share the same meal together, besides which, it is less stressful in terms of preparation.

Neither person should ever feel compelled to eat food that they do not enjoy, or at times, tolerate.
