Detroit News Endorses ROMNEY

On Thursday, one day after a Michigan poll had President Barack Obama and Mitt Romney tied in the state, The Detroit News endorsed Romney for president.

The newspaper acknowledged it was not a shoo-in for a conservative-leaning paper to endorse Romney because many in Detroit support Obama's auto bailout, but the paper wrote that while "Obama came into office in 2009 riding a wave of hope and change," he has unfortunately "not delivered on the nation's yearning for change nor on the specific promises he made to fix what is broken."

"The president is asking the country to be patient, but his plan isn't producing results that would merit more patience, and the President hasn't spelled out what he would do differently in a second term," the paper wrote.

In endorsing Romney, the paper cited his business background and the fact the he has "has been an effective leader his entire career, both in business and politics" and as governor of Massachusetts, worked "with a Democratic legislature to produce difficult health care and education reforms."

"We are optimistic he can restore the art of compromise to Washington," the paper wrote. The paper also compared Romney to Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, who ran as "one tough nerd" in the 2010 campaign:

Here's the lastest update...

Three urgent requests from the CIA annex for military back-up during the attack on the U.S. Consulate and subsequent attack nearly seven hours later were denied by officials in the CIA chain of command — who also told the CIA operators to “stand down” rather than help the ambassador’s team when shots were heard at approximately 9:40 p.m. in Benghazi on Sept. 11.

Former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty were part of a small team who were at the CIA annex about a mile from the U.S. Consulate where Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team came under attack. When they heard the shots fired, they radioed to inform their higher-ups to tell them what they were hearing. They were told to “stand down,” according to sources familiar with the exchange. An hour later, they called again to headquarters and were again told to “stand down.”

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Oops...That was for you, Monte. wave I don't know why the quote didn't work that time. crying

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

I must be spaced out from being on Percocet for so long. I think I read that Leon Panetta said "the United States government not only didn't have adequate intelligence information" (Benghazi) but they also "didn't have the chance to know what was really occurring". Did I really read that correctly? It sounds to me like the same excuse we heard on Sept. 11th that the fire departments couldn't communicate with each other because of poor radio transmission."WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. military did not quickly intervene during the attack on the U.S. Consulate in Libya last month because military leaders did not have adequate intelligence information and felt they should not put American forces at risk, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said Thursday.

In his most extensive comments to date on the unfolding controversy surrounding the attack in Benghazi, Panetta said U.S. forces were on heightened alert because of the anniversary of 9/11 and prepared to respond. But, he said, the attack happened over a few hours and was over before the U.S. had the chance to know what was really occurring."

Yep. That's what they said. But now we know that wasn't true. Aside from the live video feed they were watching in real time, we now also know that the CIA living in the compound next to the Ambassador requested THREE times to go in and help. Not only was military assistance denied, but these soldiers were told specifically to "STAND DOWN."

Which basically means they was lyin to us all along. For weeks they lied while the Ambassador died...

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

You're right Monte...

Obama actually said he would stop the oceans from rising. laugh

(seriously, he did)

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Ut oh! Looks like new evidence has surfaced on Libya-gate indication that team Obama really did leave our boys in Libya to die.

It's just been reported that the CIA at the annex (who lived) requested help 3 times and were told to stand down. Finally, some (including the Seals that died) ignored the order and went to the embassy – rescuing many.

One last thought though... Romney is not only better educated than Obama, he has proven himself far more successful in the business world. He has lived in the public eye his entire life and his actvities are well-cocument - as opposed to Obama who is shrouded in secrecy.

Why?

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

So where does YOUR Windex go?

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

When you are finished with a bottle of Windex, do you have to treat it as hazardous waste and sort it from the rest of your trash?

Home Depot does...

There are unbeleivable silly rules and requirements that companies have to follow these days. Nobody is suggesting we remove the important ones - just the bull crap that ties everone up in knots.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Romney RIGHTLY wants to simplify the horrendous piles of legislation that are currently suffocating all of our business. This does NOT mean he wants to do away with all of them. Geesh! Where do you get your talking points?

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

It's a complicated mess, that's for sure! Just remember that the news stories you read are BADLY skewed by a media that favors Obama. Romney is absolutely no more inclined to go to war than Obama is - and actually believes in "peace through strength."

But foreign affairs is such a difficult issue since things change which are out of everyone's control. Syria is a good example...Libya. Their actions sometimes determine what the next step should be so it's hard to gauge how any candidate will react without knowing what's going to happen yet.

But overall - Romney is a peace through strength kind of guy.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Morning Merri! wave

It hard to know for sure because it all boils down to electoral votes which is a screwy deal all around. To be sure, Romney holds the advantage right now but it's very close.

Here's something interesting about our elections. The winning candidate has to have 270 electoral votes to win the presidency. Current data show Obama has 201 electoral votes and Romney has 206.

Should there be a tie, or should it be close enough that neither reached 270. The House gets to pick the winner, while the Senate gets to pick the vice president.

So if that were to happen in this election - It would probably be...

Romney/Biden

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

From the Washington Post:

Pollsters have asked Americans hundreds of questions about the Affordable Care Act (ACA) in recent years. You can boil down all of that data into six charts — and we do just that below. Enjoy!

1. Law never gained majority support

Fewer than half of Americans have supported the law in every major poll since its passage. A significant portion of this opposition comes from those who say the law did not go far enough in changing the U.S. health-care system. Looked at another way, the law has been tarred and feathered from the left and the right.

2. Partisanship reigned from day one

Less than a month after the ACA was signed into law, Republicans and Democrats took sharply opposing positions on the law. The partisan divide has shrunk slightly since then, but the basic storyline remains the same: Democrats like the law, Republicans despise it and independents tilt against it.
(Kaiser Family Foundation tracking polls)

3. Individual mandate is a clunker, the rest of law is popular

Despite its lagging overall ratings, support for most components of the law do achieve majority support. At least six in 10 support requiring insurance companies to provide coverage to people with preexisting conditions, expand Medicaid and close the Medicare “doughnut hole,” according to an April Kaiser Family Foundation poll. The individual mandate – a centerpiece of constitutional challenges to the law that the Supreme Court decides on today – is a complete clunker. Just 30 percent of Americans had a favorable view of requiring people to have health insurance by 2014 or else pay a fine.

4. Knowledge lacking, rumors persist

The Affordable Care Act is a complicated piece of legislation, but as the Kaiser Family Foundation’s Drew Altman pointed out last summer, most people agree it will help people who are currently uninsured. But Kaiser’s polling finds only three in 10 uninsured Americans ages 18 to 64 think it will help their situation.

“Death panel” rumors have also stuck, however. More than one in three Americans in a March KFF poll said (incorrectly) that the law will empower a government panel to “make decisions about end-of-life care for people on Medicare.” In addition, 52 percent think the law creates a new government-run insurance plan. The so called public option, of course, was scuttled before the final bill was passed.
(Kaiser Family Foundation poll, August 2011)

5. Most people won’t be happy

Fewer than half of Americans will be pleased no matter whether the Supreme Court validates the law, throws out the highly unpopular individual mandate or rejects the entire law, according to a June Pew poll.

The high court’s ability to lead is also in question: Just 40 percent of the public in an April Post-ABC poll said they expect the Court to rule on the basis of the law while 50 percent thought they would rely on partisan political views. The Court’s favorability ratings also hit a quarter-century low this year, according to Pew.

6. Health care is clearly a second tier voting issue in 2012

Health care will be the focus of today’s news, but it’s unlikely to be the top issue for voters in November. A 52 percent majority of Americans volunteered “the economy” or “jobs” as the single most important issue in their vote this year in a May Washington Post-ABC News poll. Health care came in second, but at just 7 percent. Health care will matter in 2012, but not nearly as much as the economy.

I would add a seventh point:
We STILL don't know what's in it!

Morning Ttom. Happy Coffee Hour. coffee

I was thinking yesterday about this election and how funny it is that even though Obamacare has been touted as Obama "Key Signature Legislation," the crown-jewel of his presidency - he has barely uttered a peep about this "big f###ing deal" (to use Joe Biden's words).

I wonder why? You would think Obama would be flapping his wings and crowing from the rooftops...... but when it comes to Obamacare, you can hear a pin drop.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

It looks like Romney gained a percentage point following the last debate, but one third of the poll still includes numbers from the day before.

"The Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll for Thursday shows Mitt Romney attracting support from 50% of voters nationwide, while President Obama earns the vote from 47%. Two percent (2%) prefers some other candidate, and two percent (2%) are undecided. See daily tracking history.

These updates are based upon nightly telephone interviews and reported on a three-day rolling average basis. As a result, approximately one-third of the interviews for today’s update were completed before the end of Monday night’s presidential debate. Tomorrow morning (Friday) will be the first update based entirely upon interviews conducted after the final debate.

Heading into the first presidential debate, Obama was up two. Heading into the final debate, Romney had a two-point advantage.

Matchup results are updated daily at 9:30 a.m. Eastern (sign up for free daily e-mail update).

In the swing state of New Hampshire, Romney is up two, while the president has the edge in Nevada. In Ohio, the race is now tied at 48%."

So much for Obama "winning" the debate.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Morning Ttom. wave

You just reminded me of another stark difference between these candidates.

Remember Obama is the one who literally shut out conservatives while passing Obamacare. They were not allowed in meetings and their input was completely ignored. His failure to "reach across the aisles" is staggering.

On the other hand, as Governor, Romney was able to work very successfully with his democratic majority by ignoring party affiliations in order to GET THE JOB DONE!

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

It should be apparent to anyone following this election that one candidate - Obama - is running a very dirty campaign on lies, trickery and manufactured stories. Moreover, MOST of the bad news surrounding his policies (Obamacare costs, Medicare cuts and devastating new EPA rules) has been deliberately manipulated to not happen until AFTER this election.

In the meantime, no such BS from Team Romney. No insults, no trickery, no cover-ups...just straight talk about how to get this country out of it's mess.

Just look at Obama's record. In 2007 he began a long list of campaign promises he failed to deliver on, despite the fact that he had the full majority from the house and Senate for two years. Now in 2012 - he's basically making the same promises all over again, but now he's got a bunch of new taxes ready kick in as soon as he is elected and doesn't have to worry about keeping the electorate happy.

Does anyone REALLY want to vote for a huckster who's been lying to us for five years now?

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Isn't that funny? Team Obama can't dig up any personal dirt on Romney, so they have outreached to Gloria Allred and an old divorce case where Romney testified about the husband's company earnings.

The only problem is...the "shunned" woman Allred is trotting out is a "vicious anti-Mormon bigot."

"What you might not know is that Allred's client, Maureen Sullivan, the woman pushing to unseal the gag order on her own divorce records, is an embittered leftie, a Huffington Post "Super User," and a vicious anti-Mormon bigot.

For what's obviously a manufactured reason, Sullivan blames Mitt Romney for a divorce settlement she received during the early-nineties. Time's Mark Halperin reports that while he was Chairman of Bain Capital, Romney was called to testify in the divorce proceedings between Staples founder (and Romney friend) Tom Stemberg, and Ms. Sullivan. Supposedly, Romney's testimony about the value of Staples at the time affected the eventual settlement agreement. Flash-forward over 15 years later, and Ms. Sullivan still hasn’t gotten over it.

Even though a gag order makes it illegal for Ms. Sullivan to publicly discuss her case, apparently this hasn’t stopped her online. Though more than a decade has passed, Sullivan's used social media for years to lash out at her ex-husband, and especially Romney, using details of the proceedings that you would think fall under the gag order.

Coincidentally or not, the timing of Sullivan's comments also coincided with Romney's run for the 2008 presidency. That Ms. Sullivan would love nothing more than to derail Romney's quest for the presidency is quite apparent, as her attacks ramped up in intensity over the years. All of which, of course, have culminated in her alignment with Allred and the Globe in the final crucial days of the campaign.+

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

On July 9, President Obama proposed to extend for one year the Bush tax cuts for the middle class, defined as singles making less than $200,000 per year, and couples making less than $250,000 per year, but to let the tax cuts for those earning above those thresholds expire now. A caller to a national radio show recently said the proposal meant Obama was looking out for the middle class. But if Obama is looking out for the middle class, why is he proposing to extend their Bush tax cuts for only one year? This is the first time Obama is implying that maybe the Bush tax cuts for the middle class may not become permanent either.

And then who passed those middle class tax cuts in the first place that Obama is proposing to extend? That would be President Bush and the then Congressional majority Republicans, with almost every Democrat opposing the relief. But Obama and his Che Guevara Democrats have been telling us for 4 years that Bush and the Republicans only cut taxes for the rich. Even according to CBO, the Bush middle class tax cuts Obama wants to extend dwarf the Bush tax cuts for “the rich” Obama does not want to extend.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

CBO Confirms: Obamacare Raises Taxes on Middle Class

The nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office on Wednesday released a report estimating that 6 million people would be subject to the Obamacare tax, approximating $7 billion in taxes in 2016 with each of the 6 million people paying at least $695.

As the Washington Examiner notes, most of those 6 million are in the middle class, with 4.7 million having incomes “500 percent of the federal poverty level,” which the CBO projects will be “$60,000 for individuals and $123,000 for families of four by 2016.”

The CBO describes the Obamacare tax as: "the greater of: a flat dollar amount per person that rises to $695 in 2016 and is indexed by inflation thereafter (the penalty for children will be half that amount and an overall cap will apply to family payments); or a percentage of the household's income that rises to 2.5 percent for 2016 and subsequent years (also subject to a cap)."

In 2008, Obama pledged “no family making less than $250,000 a year will see any form of tax increase -- not your income tax, not your payroll tax, not your capital gains taxes, not any of your taxes."

The Supreme Court, by a 5-4 vote, ruled Obamacare was constitutional because it was a tax and, in so doing, ensured one of Obama's central promises from 2008 was broken.

RE: THE President Actually! Preisdent Obama or President Romney?

Don't Believe Obama's Ads, Romney Is A Middle Class Tax Cutter

"Barack Obama brazenly fabricates Mitt Romney’s tax proposals, pouring millions into advertising claiming those proposals would increase taxes by $2,000 a year on the average middle class family. That is how he debates a Romney tax plan that only cuts taxes on the middle class, repeatedly, with no middle class tax increase of any sort."

All the facts and figures are listed - including ALL of Obama's Middle Class Tax increases.
