Dude... What's happened to Obama's "fabulous" international Public Relations skills? I thought you said he could do no wrong...
WASHINGTON/JERUSALEM, Sept 11 (Reuters) - In a highly unusual rebuff to a close ally, the White House said on Tuesday that President Barack Obama would not meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during a U.S. visit later this month, as tensions escalated over how to deal with Iran's nuclear program.
The apparent snub, coupled with Netanyahu's sharpened demands for a tougher U.S. line against Iran, threatened to plunge U.S.-Israeli relations into crisis and add pressure on Obama in the final stretch of a tight presidential election campaign.
An Israeli official said the White House had refused Netanyahu's request to meet Obama when the Israeli leader visits the United States to attend the U.N. General Assembly, telling the Israelis "the president's schedule will not permit that."
Egyptian protesters, largely ultraconservative Islamists, climbed the walls of the U.S. Embassy in Cairo on Tuesday, made their way into the courtyard and brought down the flag, replacing it with a black flag with an Islamic inscription to protest a film attacking Islam's prophet, Muhammad.
Hundreds of protesters marched to the embassy in downtown Cairo, gathering outside its walls and chanting against the movie, which was reportedly produced in the United States.
"Say it, don't fear: Their ambassador must leave," the crowd chanted.
Dozens of protesters then scaled the embassy walls, took down the flag from a pole in the courtyard and brought it back to the crowd outside. The crowd tried to burn it, but failing that, tore it apart. The protesters on the wall then raised on the flagpole a black flag with the Muslim declaration of faith on it, "There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet." The flag, similar to the banner used by Al Qaeda, is commonly used by ultraconservatives around the region.
In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said the U.S. was working with Egyptian authorities to try to restore order.
I wonder how many people remember it was Obama himself who brought us this new Egyptian government?
A new report from the World Economic Forum just found "the U.S. slipping in dozens of areas compared with just a few years ago. Perhaps most troubling is the conclusion that since 2008, the United States has slid from No. 1 in the world in "global competitiveness" to No. 7 this year.
Out-ranking America are: Switzerland, Singapore, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands and Germany.
Sure, it's just a number. But the WEF's ranking takes into account a broad range of factors, from debt to corruption to regulation to red tape to education to health care.
And virtually across the board, the U.S. is falling behind.
"The slide in the global competitiveness report is almost certainly due to ... policy-related factors," James Gwartney, economics professor at Florida State University, told FoxNews.com. Gwartney, with dozens of other institutes, has co-authored a separate report on economic freedom set to be unveiled next week.
The World Economic Forum study reflected both the slack in the U.S. economy from the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent recession, and the increasing anxiety over the nation's skyrocketing debt, among other factors.
In the latest report, the U.S. ranked at number 140 out of 144 on its government deficit as a percentage of GDP. The U.S. ranked at 97 four years ago.
PS... He smarter, better educated, has much better management and work experience, is far more successful in business, he grew up in politics, and he LOVES THIS COUNTRY.
I agree with you about the Roneys...and what fun it would be to see those 16 grandchildren hunting Easter Eggs on the front lawn. It would be madness, but such fun!
It looks like the White House will fail to meet its deadline on detailing Obama's proposed defense cuts.
Obama campaigns while Rome burns?
"The White House announced that it will not meet Friday's deadline to make public what plans it will put into place to deal with the massive defense cuts coming at the end of the year.
The announcement comes shortly after President Obama signed into law the Sequestration Transparency Act that requires him to submit a report to Congress detailing the impact of his 'sequester' on defense and non-defense programs – cuts that were triggered after the so-called Super Committee to come up with a debt deal last year."
Interesting stuff, ttom. I think, in the end, we will be glad to have Romney.
"Patton" has some friends who know Ann Romney well (if you know what I mean). Everything I have heard about she and Mitt on a personal level has been VERY, VERY positive.
Maybe, but you know what they say...the older you get, the more like your parents you become (be that ever so frightening in my case ). I think Mitt's a straight up guy. A man like him with all that family...all those children and grandchildren...he's looking for a legacy. He won't disappoint us, I don't think.
You make those looney toon movie critics sound like cream puffs.
But I agree on all counts. It was nauseating to watch. How can people not see that the Dems are perpetuating the biggest hoax ever on the American people?
In 2008, Obama told us he would cut the deficit in half by now or he would be a one-term president. Well...we all see what happened to that promise.
Now here it is 2012 and he's telling us it will take "several years" to accoumplish anything. Good grief! It he continues with the track record he's already had, we should be digging ditches in China by 2016!
John Kerry? There's another beauty for ya. Again, it's mind-boggling that someone who stands for everything the democrats hate could get away with ANY support.
"As a member of the Senate Finance Committee's Subcommittee on Health, Kerry played a key role in shaping President Obama's healthcare reform legislation in 2009 — while also raking in cash from healthcare investments.
•As passage Obamacare seemed more likely, Kerry bought nearly $750,000 in Teva Pharmaceuticals stock, one of several big drug companies that benefitted from the health care bill. When the bill was signed in 2010, the Kerrys sold some of their Teva shares, making tens of thousands of dollars in capital gains. They kept more than $1 million worth of Teva stock.
•In 2009, the Kerrys also picked up shares in ResMed, a medical device manufacturer that was a big winner in the healthcare reform battle. In early versions of the bill, medical device companies would have been subject to higher taxes. Kerry opposed the taxes, and the fees were much lower in the final version. ResMed's stock rose 71% when the bill was passed.
•The Kerrys also invested in hospital supplier Thermo Fisher Scientific, a major beneficiary of the healthcare bill. The stock jumped 40% after Obamacare passed.
•At the same time, the Kerrys dumped all of their investments in the health insurance industry, including shares in United Health and Wellpoint. Needlesstosay, healthcare providers were the biggest losers in Obamacare.
•In May 15, 2007, the federal government decided to end reimbursements for an obscure anemia drug manufactured by Amgen, causing the company's stock to plummet. The Kerrys avoided the loss by selling all of their stock in Amgen on May 4 and May 7.
•In 2003, when Congress was negotiating Medicare Part D, the prescription drug benefit program, the Kerrys made 111 trades in pharmaceutical companies and the healthcare providers that would administer the plan. In 2004, after the bill became law, the Kerrys started selling some of their drug company stocks, netting between $100,000 and $1 million from their investment in Oxford Health Plans, and tens of thousands more from Pfizer, Johnson&Johnson, and Cardinal Health.
I tried. I really tried... but listening to Obama was just too difficult.
It's unbelievable to me that anyone could actually believe the hollow words coming out of his mouth when there is absolutely obvious he has nothing to run on.
What's worse, bussing all those thousands of people down to Charlotte just to shut them out of the convention in order to "look good" is insulting to the "nth" degree. He inconvenienced everyone just so he could cover his losses.
We can let the puppies and elephants play, but until this mess is over we'll have to sweat bullets. You never now when Obama will have his Cosmo buddy photoshop a picture of Romney with a sheep or something.
Agreed. But considering they already aer starting to favor Romney, AND considering there is far mre enthusiasm on the Republican side, I'm betting it's a landslide (but I wouldn't dare put money on it because ANYTHING can happen...just like last night).
I wonder if the dems did the whole mess last night on purpose...just so Obama had something to blame the lost election on.
RE: Romney and Ryan really better than Obama and Biden benefiting most Americans?
Dude, that's not a reason. You are just repeating yourselfWhat is the reasoning behind your judgement?
