I'd say nothing ventured is nothing gained,and really you have nothing to lose,he has after all left the door open,so I"d say the balls in your court,call him.
I think alot of the reason why I still cook has to do with the fact that my baby (20yrs) still lives at home,and when his older brothers were at home I cooked most nights,still do actually ,so yes,I still cook home cooked meals ...:))
The best I can suggest is ALWAYS remember to keep your breathing regulated,and believe it or not talking your self out of it works,however,and if they persists and become more frequent,a mild sedative my be required to give you that added comfort of calmness.
Panic attacks are very real and can be very scary,along with serious,if not controlled one can be lead to have a angina attack.
