Just checking in w/ all you crazy people. Kind of glaced through the Forums and noticed some pretty heated banter and thought a little light hearted fun was in need.
We haven't heard about a lot of stuff here in the US. We try and try to avoid race riots and especially w/ the current climate, we do not need to bring about a lot of hateful news such as this. I know of several muslim individuals and they are quit sweet people. Of course they left the Middle East to get away from such things I assume, but maybe I am just being nieve.
Yes it is. It is even fun to travel and eat in places that would seem to produce something we know an recognize, yet find that we were quit mistaken. While I lived in Quito, all of the Chinese retaurants were actually run by Korean families, but they called them selves Chinese simply to play to the Ecuadorian aysthetic.
FYI, Korean food is soooooo much more yummy then Chinese. Hands down.
This is quit true. In Ecuador Geunea Pigs were used in religious rituals back in the day. Now there are restaurants dedicated to cooking them up for someone's supper.
Ever been to a restaurant where there is a tank full of lobsters and the costomer can pick which one they want, well . . .they have something similar in Ecuador. There are those places that let you chose which one you wish to have for your dinner. Other places just present you w/ the dish.
When we get time off . . . . sleep, met w/ friends and talk. I read or watch a lot of movies/Tv.
But people are being refused time off (whether needed for school or other) because suporvisors do not want to work the hours. And people keep working because they don't want to lose their jobs.
FYI:Suporvisors are salary, from them down, we are all wages.
The GM is making a big deal about dept. budgets being too high. The only real way to keep them down is for the suporvisors to work more, but then we don't want them to be worn out either.
I think the situation is bad enough that no matter what you do on your time off, stepping into work brings back the stress. But everyone is different.
Thank you all for your responses. I am really greatful and will keep them all in mind. I will also let you know what happens. Have a good day, and take care everyone.
That's a good idea. I will keep up w/ helping out the other workers though. Even if it is not working out for us, we could try and leave the work place in a better situation for the next group of people. Do unto others . . . right! Thanks for the insight everyone.
It is really not that easy to find another job. The market is not that great and I live in a small town. W/ the trade I am trying to learn right now . . . there might be jobs, but they are seasonal.
The goal is to kick start my own little "business". But w/ money being in the hands of so few when so many need it . . . that's a tough one.
I am a young woman w/ Three BAs and my own property. I may not be financially stable, but I have a home, family and my brain, which right now is all I deem 100% necesary.
I am not going to get so indepth as she did, because . . . well there's still stuff I want to do, and I will only talk about it once it's done. You can keep you fantasies about Palin.
Funny thing, I switched departments and watched them try to replace me there . . . . it was kind of funny. They had people that could do it, but didn't pick those people.
A rough summery of my situation: The company I work for began in a supper tiny shop, with maybe five employees. The same person has been the manager for about 20 yrs.
We are now much, much larger, w/ about 100+ employees, in a college town w/ a fluctuating turn over rate. Starting wage is at least a dolar more then minimum and the people are nice.
Several changes have occured: several manager/book-keeping people have quit and their past jobs have been split up into various smaller jobs, because it would be insane to train ONE person to take over the ONE job. Plus, many of these people had worked we us for 10-15 yrs. So they knew their jobs and what they had grown from.
W/ more and more positions being created and more people to be overseen, managment has become slighty jaded w/ the current situation. We have always considered ourselves a gathering place for the community, but no politics and prices have put a strain on all departments to increase sales or cut back on wages.
This pressure and stress has trickled down into the little itsy-bitsy work peoples, who are now constantly ill, experiencing muscle spasms (doc says from stress), Panic attacks, and stains upon our bodies trying to full fill an quota. The General Manager does not want to hear about a disconnect between big and little people and she refuses to allow bottom to top evals.
Some of us want to strike. I think it would work, but others are wanting to tread a little softer. This state is a right to work state, not a workers rights state. So we are a little worried about being fired for causing problems, however my view is that there are too many of us to fire w/o screwing themselves entirely.
Nope, not really. Mosty because I think she's a tard and they are using her for a sympathy vote. Even Beauty Queens age, so the physical has little to do w/ it.
Who's awake and who's just faking it?
hehehe, I am avoiding folding my clothes. Even though I am in a public laund-ro-mat!
