If there is universal consciousness, what relevance has it to me? I might be a component part of it, but I can't see what significance that has for me. There are bacteria in my gut that are an essential part of my ability to exist as a functioning system, but they don't concern themselves with the big picture, they are their own ends, as far as they are concerned. Well I am my own end, and if my existence contributes to a higher existence, then so be it, but it's not my job to interfere with what goes on at Head Office.
I don't think taking a psychiatrist for a walk would give me the experience I'm looking for, Lee. And not only that; I don't think I could keep a psychiatrist in the manner to which he is accustomed. I'm a pensioner now you know.
I'm glad you think like that. It is important that we are able to laugh at ourselves. It not only keeps us in touch with reality, it also gives us the right to laugh at others, and that is a right that I value very highly indeed.
