I have learnt that not everyone who 'looks' as though they are in need, THINK that they are 'poor'. In fact, some persons who have little (compared with the average person), can be very proud, and easily offended by anyone offering 'charity'. Isn't that because they may seem poor in 'state', but they are not (in their own eyes)?
And then there are those who, as Exred suggests, are both poor in 'state' and in 'mind'
I could understand your reason for being 'incognito', but don't agree that a woman is SHALLOW just because she wants to see the face of the man she's chatting with. That comment is 'shallow'. God created us all with faces because they are a part of our identity, and can say much about us, even in a pic.
That may be true, but the same way that we accommodate men by saying that they are 'visual' beings as it pertains to appeal, isn't it the same for most women also. In other words, don't we want to see who we're chatting with; isn't that 'visual' important towards arousing and maintaining appeal?
If the Indigenous people are happy with how they live, and believe that their needs are being met through their own 'natural' efforts, then they may not consider themselves 'poor' at all. In fact, they may consider themselves rich. This is probably because the things that they value are different from the things that the rest of the world values.
Recently, I read an article which stated that 19% of the world's Indigenous/Aboriginal peoples are considered as "extreme poor", but do they consider themselves to be such? Who/what determines that? Is it because their lifestyles are minimalistic, in comparison to the rest of the world?
Is someone 'poor' solely because others say so about the way that one looks and lives, or is that determined by how one thinks and feels?
OMG! What an awesome video. Thanks so much for sharing DL. Indeed, as the poem says..."men do not cry is so absurd". Sadly, such are many of the restraints that societal leaders had/have put on men and women.
Whilst I see your point about "...people who haven't changed theirs since I joined this site 10 years ago", I don't agree that "Having a photo up means nothing". To many people besides me, a photo really says a lot especially if it's a true and recent likeness of the person that I want to get to know (and date). After all, this site is primarily about 'dating'. Not so?
Is poverty a state of Mind or a state of Being?
