RE: Should the Canadian Anthem be changed?

Absolutely flipping not!!! Who in the hell comes up with these ideas? I want that kind of job - paid well - where I can just come up with random stupid ideas AND get people to fall for them dunno I mean really...do we not, as a nation, have bigger and better issues to tackle??? (JMHFO) angel

RE: oh no mens hockey Sunday

RE: CANADA VS USA; CANADA WON!!!!!!!!!!!

yay yay yay
What an AWESOME game...can't get better than overtime! Just heard that with this medal, Canada breaks all records for the number of medals throughout the history of the games. Very proud of our Canadian born hockey players...they played very well...and Canadians are proud of our athletes.
I admire all world class athletes...regardless of their country of origin - the dedication and talent! Most medals won are well deserved! (except those enhanced with drugging and biased judging!)
Anyways...Canadian boys deserved their hard won GOLD medal...good on you CANADA (and all the players from Saskatchewan!!!!

RE: Out of Curiosity ...

Sorting it all out tends to take time and extra time seems to be a luxury. So, I tend to multitask - thinking things through when I am driving...shopping...showering and performing domestic drudgery! When I have the time, music is my therapy as well as exercise and doodling...maybe even painting! sometimes just getting it off my chest, telling someone and talking it all through works...and sometimes just putting it all down on a piece of paper and working through it, pros vs. cons....can work as well! Not bad for a dead person eh? angel yay

RE: wishing everyone a Happy Valentines Day

Happy Valentine's Day to each and everyone of you! Hope everyone has someone special to share their day with, someone they care about and who cares for them - family and friends count too! So wonderful to not have a thousand or two miles between us like we did last year...smittenMade this valentine's day extra special for my love and I heart beating
But I miss my little love bug hugs and kisses from my sweet little one down south...can't have everything.

Yukon Quest

grin According to reports, leaders are at or about Carmacks - a town on the Klondike highway,a bout a four hour drive from Whitehorse. Not sure how far the dogs have to travel on the trail into Whitehorse...would guess a few hundred. They are breaking records - increased experience in the Mushers, better food, better dogs...regardless, very exciting finish is expected..not the usual one team at a time! And the dogs are in good healthy shape as are the mushers...it has been a safe race so far and that above all else is the most important. The "home" dogs will soon be sensing they are close to their stomping grounds are really start pulling for home! Hopefully I will be able to witness the finish and get some great pics! Did I say that yukon quest has a great facebook page?
BTW, it is clear, above 0 and the sky is the most beautiful bright blue here today...great day for a bit of a rip in the dog sled! dancing

Yukon Quest

tongue yes you are! Funny too! grin

Just a quick update... lead mushers started pulling out of Dawson this morning for the last half of the race! From what I have been reading, the trail is in excellent condition and this could be a fast trip to the finish!
Here is something that I thought was great. Lance Mackay's dogs are all wearing bright pink booties. Apparently a percentage of the sale of these boots go to breast cancer!!heart wings Think I will go get a few, well 4 for Hazel!!! heart wings cheering Cheering for a safe and successful run for all teams!!

RE: Do you agree with Tim Hortons' lifetime ban of a customer for allegedly acting aggressively toward s

Hmmm...appears to be a double standard - if he is dangerous, then he is dangerous, regardless if he is working or not.
This is a tough one Kim. I have worked the counter in food service and I have been the "consumer" of very bad service, particularly at Tim's. This last time, just this past week...I had to self talk myself into just getting my refund and walking out...if I opened my mouth...?*#!! frustrated It was beyond idiotic.
Odds are the fellow was under a bit of "stress" and got verbal -real verbal - did it warrant a LIFETIME ban...I highly doubt it -consequence - yes.
And again, let's not forget there usually are two sides to the story, and there usually is a story leading up to the story!
Like me...he should consider Starbucks...and MacDonalds makes damn good java! coffee

Yukon Quest

doh need to correct that. King Soloman's dome is between Dawson and Pelly. Regardless they have a few hundred miles or more of higher altitude coming up.
Loner, I was just reading that they believe strategically, some of the front runners turn off their head lamps and gps in order to "sneak" up on those ahead - easily done at night!

Yukon Quest

wave Hi Loner! Sounds like a wonderful time and a wonderful memory!

Yes, there are teams from all over; the musher from Sask. is originally from Belgium. I too, am very impressed with Abbie; she is more than holding her own, right up there with the veterans and some former winners, and she has had to drop 4 dogs and is down to 10. Nobody has arrived at Eagle yet. It is a mandatory rest stop for 4 hours. From Eagle to Dawson is a pretty tough leg of the race, a few summits and king Salomon's dome...some pretty rough terrain.
You are right, as far as the preference for running day or night, I think that has to do with the temperature as well. it is very warm up here right now. The dogs can probably run better at night when the temp drops. (It was only -10 here last night) Each musher has their own strategy I guess. Guessing another 6 days before they are close to here. I really hope I am able to go and get some pics. There will be a few great picture opportunities I am sure.
The yukonquest has a great facebook site...fantastic pics of the dogs! And great updates as well!
Stay warm down there wine

RE: THE DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU MARRY A CANADIAN GIRL

laugh Yes, some of us do have the tendency to be a bit "assertive" - but that is just one little quirk...it's all good for there angel

RE: THE DIFFERENCE WHEN YOU MARRY A CANADIAN GIRL

Haha...several years ago, one of my sons found his older sisters readybake oven...took it outside, plugged it in and stuffed it full of dry leaves...doh

Yukon Quest

By all accounts, the race is going good. There are some fantastic times because the weather is above average right now. The leaders are not heading into or are into the Yukon! The girls are doing good too...hanging in there. I am proud of each of those ladies for just doing what they are doing and entering the race. Abbie West is right up there with the guys/veterans!!! The first musher from Saskatchewan, who is a rookie, is hanging in there as well! canada

Yukon Quest

Looks like another nice day today so you will probably have the opportunity to get caught right up! grin

RE: What's The Weather Like In Your Area?

+1 Celsius or 34 Fahrenheit. We really don't have that much snow. Bright sunny day and gordy2222 reported that it was +2 at 3300 feet elevation mid afternoon!

RE: Looking for my soulmate and need advice !!

No if, ands, buts or maybes, it is completely unacceptable to call anyone derogatory, hurtful names on this site...least of all someone's children. Maybe this is a "maturity" issue, maybe it isn't, but ...and in my honest opinion, a man who states that a woman with children should be happy that any man will want her....he has a "maturity" problem doh

RE: Looking for my soulmate and need advice !!

You have a valid point. I believe that if that is one's mindset in relationship, than perhaps they should choose to be alone...that kind of thinking is nothing but a barrier to a relationship being one of honesty, trust, respect...and all else that is required for a relationship to reach it's potential and stay strong...just calling it like I see it: and I am not trying to be a smartass either! wave

RE: Looking for my soulmate and need advice !!

Hi, please don't take this the wrong way. I tend to believe that when a person is basing decisions upon the physical appearance of potential partners, then perhaps they are not quite ready themselves to be in a relationship. I am not saying that chemistry and physical attraction are not important, but those can often come very easily when you are attracted to someone's personality as well...and when that happens, their "physical deficiencies" have disappeared. And remember, no one is perfect, we all have flaws. Are you looking for negatives rather than positives? JMHO

Having a hard time understanding

crying

I, as I am sure all of us, are having a hard time wrapping our heads around the horrific murders of the two baby boy brothers in Alberta...cannot even begin to imagine; can't even find the words to finish my thoughts.
I have worked very closely with severely mentally ill people and am pretty damn sure that not one of them is capable of something like this. So, what is it. Was the mother (alleged murderer) so wrapped up in herself??? She tried to end her own life as well...didn't work. Many broken bones. I personally hope that she is in incredible pain, both physically and emotionally for the rest of her life. I hope that some mentally ill plea does not fly and that she is sent to Canadian Federal Prison.
She was not losing her boys, she was told that she could not take them to Australia, away from their daddy. Now, no one is with them...and nothing can be taken back sad flower angel

RE: Home Burned Down and 2 Lives Lost

sad What a horrific tradedy...without rhyme or reason and perhaps never with answers...thy will, will be done...
I hope you have a strong support system to help you get through witnessing such a traumatic event comfort

Yukon Quest

I think you are warmer than downtown...but it is melting and mushy and mucky...a wash the truck kinda day!! But I work til 9...maybe on Tuesday on my day off it will still be warm enough...can get that done while the clothes are washing at the laundromat! mumbling a day off is really not a day off...doh

RE: Question for women with kids !!!!

Very well put; couldn't have put it better myself. JMO, from a Canadian girl, but let the mom decide when the right time is for contact of any kind...let her lead the way. If it all works out, you will have ample time to meet the girls. A time for everything...handshake

Yukon Quest

Just an update. At 2 am this morning, musher Zack Steel, with a full team of 14, pulled up to Mile 101. Conditions are ideal. At 4 am, Brent Sass, with "Silver" in lead{Silver go Sass over Eagle Summit during the storm of the 2006 race}.
The leg of the race is now mile 101 to Central, which includes the 3700 foot climb and decent of Eagle Summit. Once on the "flat land" heading to Central, the trail report includes some slanted and bulbous glacier ice.
It is so warm here today ( as yesterday) barely 0 with a bright blue sky! wave

Yukon Quest

You are very welcome! I agree...just entering and attempting says alot about the mushers doesn't it! And...these dogs are incredible - I was out to Frank Turner's, he won the quest once or twice and still has a huge kennel (MUKTUK Kennel); amazing is about all I can say! There was a few dogs that I could have taken home. One named Terror, a proud handsome fellow, led the team through some pretty bad stuff and to at least one win. The intelligence and integrity of this dog just radiated from him...really hard to explain! The bond between musher and team is the strength that gets them where they need to go! And yes...this land is breathtaking! - you should take a holiday and come see us! Anyways, enjoy following the race! And I hope to be at the finish line to see at least a few of the teams finish! canada

RE: Geo ...

cheering cake happy birthday
whew....made it just under the midnight hour...it's still the 5th! Happy B-day Geo! Hope you had a better than decent day and will be able to sit back, relax and enjoy your birthday weekend!wine

Yukon Quest - International Dog Race

I am very excited that the quest starts on Saturday- february 6th, at Fairbanks, Alaska! The race is about 1500 kilometres and the finish line is here in Whitehorse - will be exciting! I have a deep love for dogs and have had my whole life. I have been a follower of the races for several years! I find them to be courageous, strong and smart to say the least; as are the mushers. This is a long, grueling and often dangerous race. Anyways here is the link - some may enjoy checking it out and may want to follow the race over the next week or so? I am going to cheer for every dog and every musher and every support person out on the trail for safety and good health. There have been some tragedies through the years,as well as stories of great faith and humanity and bravery!
Check it out! Mushers are from all over the world!
