RE: Real Wealth

Most inspirational Rusty. Most edifying.

But try this line on Bill Gates or Warren Buffet or Richard Branson or any of the billionaires around....and guess what, they will smile kindly, pat you on the head and say "..you got that right fellow....now get the hell back to your hovel".smile

RE: Thoughts please...

Hi Smoky, how're you? I didn't present the problem well, nor too accurately. Let me try it again.

1. There are 12 balls which look the same and to the touch seem to be equally heavy.
2. However, eleven of the balls weigh exactly the same but ONE weighs either slightly more or less than the others.
3. You are given a pair of scales - you know like the symbol of justice sort - but no separate weights.
4. You have to figure a method of measuring the balls against each other and in three measurements find out the odd ball as well as determine whether it is heavier or lighter than the rest.

It is an excercise in hypothesis and the absolute weight of the balls doesn't matter. So get a pencil and paper; draw a pair of scales; draw the balls on the trays in some arrangement - this is the heart of the matter - and in three measurements see if you can solve it.

You can do it. I know you can.

RE: Thoughts please...

An IQ of 132 would just about qualify a person to enter university. In fact it is at the lower end of university entrants. Such types usually go in for philosophy or social sciences - the dim witted have an inordinate interest in these subjects. Nothing to cause awe..not a big deal at all. An IQ of 148 or 155 (depending on the test parameters) is another thing. Only two percent of the population have that level of IQ.
Let's put a brain teaser to solve and see who first comes up with a solution.

1) The problem: Out of twelve identically shaped and sized spheres ten weigh exactly the same but two spheres differ in weight.
The question: With a pair of scales to use find out in just three measurements which of the two spheres have a different weight and ALSO whether these two spheres are heavier or lighter than the rest.

'something' ok with you?

RE: Financial Chaos...

Thank you.

RE: Financial Chaos...

I purposely did not respond to this thread until I was furnished with the facts.

The markets, as they always do, will recover, in Austria, our banks give 60 year mortgages, property is handed down over generations, so therefore the economy is strong, because it is not reliant on the housing market like the US ansd the UK.

My information is that the maximum mortgage tern in Austria is 25 years, upto the age of 65....meaning you can still take a mortage at 40 under certain circumstances.

Living as you do in Austria, perhaps you enlighten me?

RE: Your life

It's not possible to verify the figures but I think you have asked a very pertinant question. For one and this is extremely important, we all speak English and can thus come from any part of the world even if we have almost opposing cultures and perceptions. To an extent we are 'de-raciné'. There is a measure of isolation which comes with being self-exiles from homeland. Many of us have benefited economically by being expatriates. I dont know how to respond to the 'psychological' part of your comment in any rigourous and and sociological way, but I know that a great degree of alienation with local circumstances comes with age. Somewhat like relapsed Catholics at their death-bed..wailing for extreme unction. And finally, there is a an underlying sense of guilt in thus 'abandoning' home.

Your question should be the subject of an unified sociological, psychological, economic investigation. As far as I know the only works on this subject have been written by Prof. Thomas Sowell of Stanford Univ. about migrations and cultures.

There is something you have not mentioned and that is the dubious value of anonymity. People migrating become anonymous. The habit continues even after they have in one way or another integrated with the society of their adoption.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

RE: WHAT TRAITS DO YOU MOST DISLIKE IN OTHERS?

That is so utterly true and insightful! I am very quick in discerning traits in others which I detest and yet know that I have the same traits in abundance. This applies to parents, friends and colleagues and sometimes even acquaintances I hardly know.

I wonder what this suggests philosophically and psychologically. It'd be nice to think that it suggests a self-awareness. But...that's a bit self-serving considering that I dont really change my spots.

Well, Conrad, do expand on your comment, if you will. I'd like to hear more.

RE: WHAT WOULD YOU CHANGE ABOUT YOURSELF?

Cant do anything about it this time but the next time around I'll do some fierce lobbying with 'fate'.laugh

RE: Why some people in CS didn t posted their photos?

Jan,

Similar to your multiple choice question, the CS site requires a yes/no answer from people when they make their profiles. But as Hamlet said to Octavio " There is more in heaven and earth, Octavio, than is dreamed of in your philosophy".

Peoples lives can be immensely complicated. Some people dont give a damn about complications but most people do. That itself is one of the attractions of this site ie. anonymity. Compare it to an auction if you will. Some bidders are there in person and some keep their anonymity and call in with their bids. Why? God knows, goodness knows and person himself knows.

But why question the judgement of the people on this site who do not post photos? Contact can still be made on a personal basis if anything in someone else's profile is attractive and intriguing.

Maybe this is not a satisfying answer to your question. Very probably not. If your question is directed towards people who have photos, for their comments then you'll probably get a lot of answers condemning the non-photo profiles. That's obvious...they will be free, frank and fearless as they are. If you are asking photo-less people to reply - they are likely to ignore your question. That too is obvious.

Common sense, Jan45, common sense

RE: Has anybody ever met or even made love to a ghost (no not goat) or am I the only one ?

I have had ghosts in my life - maybe bad dreams or hallucinations but I have vivid memories of touch, smell and awareness...memories also of faces and they re-occur from time to time. (Ah, I dont do drugs by the way).

My first experience was when sleeping in bed at a friend's ancestral palatial home - my bed was under the staircase because although there were many bedrooms they were not really usuable; drafty; no adjoining bathroom or even no lighting system. My friend was in his room on the third floor which was perhaps the only habitable bedroom in that mansion. Just after 1am in the morning when I'd fallen asleep I woke up with a start hearing footsteps on the staircase right above me. Now this is going to sound mad but a figure rounded the corner of the staircase and came towards me then disappeared but in a blink of an eye I felt as though a block of ice had come into my bed and lain down next to me. Thinking about it some 30 years later makes my hairs rise. I was too paralysed to do anything but croak the name of my friend which of course he couldn't hear at that distance. I remained in bed and even fell asleep again but for the next 10 days I had high fever with convulsions which doctors had no explanation for.

Later experiences came when, once having being scared out of my wits, I dared myself to do things like accompany a friend of mine who was also a tantric practitioner into visiting the obscure corners of open crematoriums where tantrics gathered to meet and practise their beliefs. There were open pyres burning away only metres away; the relatives of the dead had all left; and then a kind of booming sound came from nowhere and enveloped our group, some of who were real sadhus with matted hair, wearing nothing but ashes and a loin cloth. In the morning when I awoke the place was deserted and I was alone.

In later years I dreamt of women I'd never seen in real life and who in the course of the night made love to me till morning came and I was still in a half dream calling out their names. All day long on those occasions I was convinced there was someone else hiding in my apartment.

Maybe all this is a good indication for a visit to a shrink - which in any case I have though it seems so pointless to see these pharmacological shrinks.

Numerous times I have had the most 'real' experiences; things I never knew about but which passed like a parade in front of my eyes; some turned out to be historically authentic events of the past, some not.

So Crusader blood, I totally accept your account of your experiences. The word coincidence actually means nothing. It is often produced as an explanation but it only means that two events occured at the same time in two realities. It is at this deeper level that strange phenomena have to be explained or experimented with. In the late Soviet Union parapsychology had achieved immense heights of research and experimentation. But it's mostly lost now.

The problem really for the sceptic is to prove a negative proposition which is not possible. If you haven't experienced it it does not mean it doesn't exist!frustrated

RE: IS there any Real women Exist to dare a young guy???

As usual you are brilliantly discriminatory! devil
