Gee listen...Take her to dinner (some fancy place, not a Mc DO)...And over a glass of plonk, look deep into her eyes, smile and say.."Darling, i have two things in common with an elephant and as you can see......I don't have big ears"..
Basically keep them laughing and 'glowy'....Really it's not rocket science. Works for me...
