Broken people

There's an old saying that misery loves company, and I suppose it's true. There are people out there that I call broken people. Some call them hurt people. They are the ones who have been so hurt that they can't get past it, though they say that they are, and they get into relationships, but end up hurting those that do fall in love with them.

Many of us have been broken, or hurt, people at some point or another, or we wouldn't be here. But have you truly done the work to heal and be prepared to move into a healthy relationship? Or do you still have work to do?

Why do those who are still broken, or still hurting, seek relationships with others before finishing their inner work? I know it happens, because the fall-out happens here in threads about "if someone did this to you...", the "why do all men/women" threads, and also in the bitterness that others spew onto us all at times.

Just some thoughts that a friend and I have been discussing, and I wanted to see what others had to say. wine

RE: Feel good memories

I have several of those, Scuba. Can't think of just one to share here right now, though. I've got a lot of things on my mind, and those are pushing these out at the moment.

So...off to work on my to-do list for today. If I think of one to share, I'll add it later. wine

RE: Just a question about the who's viewed me

I agree, I'm glad that feature is gone as well.

What I miss is the distance from you calculation feature, though.

RE: Just a question about the who's viewed me

Exactly. So yes, they can be signed in and still not show up in yours, even though yours is turned on, because they have theirs turned off.

RE: Men becoming too romantic?

Ah, so I'm not alone. Whew! hug

RE: Men becoming too romantic?

Eeegads, yes! I had a boyfriend a very long time ago who gave me a dozen roses every day for a week to apologize to me for something minor. My tiny apartment smelled like a funeral parlor. Fastest ways to lose my interest are to give me a dozen roses, smother me with too much affection, or send me daily love poems.

I prefer the romance of the little, every day things. I can take a little bit of the other stuff, but not much. A single rose, or three of them...the occasional poetic verse...and we can skip the chocolates, they're not on my meal plans these days.

The fastest way to gain my attention? Give me an herb that I can plant in my garden, one I don't have yet but want. Be willing to help me get my grill installed so we can cook on it. Show me a new wonderful trail to hike in a spot with a lot of good energy. Those are my idea of romantic gestures.

RE: Felt This To Be Very Appropiate For My Coffee Thread Today

Wow, I've really been missing things around here! Good luck, Da! thumbs up

Sassy, excellent post! cheers

Shirley, glad to see you back too. hug

RE: How long is too long

laugh laugh hug I'll try to keep mine shorter just for you, Riz.

RE: How long is too long

I think you're just showing your age, Riz. tongue laugh

I can read a couple of paragraphs, but have difficulty if a post is several pages long. I try to be concise, but occasionally I get long-winded. So now I know you don't read my long-winded posts. moping

RE: deleted

No, or we'd constantly be terrorized by people on here. I agree with some censorship. What I'd like to see happen is for the mods to ban IP addresses to prevent the troublemakers from returning with a new ID, and it can be done.

RE: deleted

Why is it that when I see this combined with mention of Australia, I have a feeling I know who it was?

RE: How Much Do you Know

That's my point. See, if I travel to other countries, I want to learn about their culture, not just visit to see the pretty sights. sigh

RE: How Much Do you Know

Actually, though many Americans will bristle at your statement, I have to agree with it as regards to us, Petal. I remember when I learned German in the Army that one thing that they taught us was that American service people were not popular overseas because of our attitude that we're Americans and it should be our way everywhere. A very egotistical attitude, to be sure.

I have studied many different cultures, as well as their languages and histories, religions, etc. I've taken courses in World Religion and Cultural Anthropology, and watched the Discovery Channel and the Travel Channel, and yet I still know very little about the true culture of other countries. I've never been to them and absorbed them. I'd like to change that some day.

I already live like this, HL. I have for the past 22 months. It's a good way to live, but it's not always easy. wine

Mike, that's the first post I've ever seen you make that made me want to reach out and smack you upside your head. scold doh

Look at who you are, so wise for your years, so well educated and well-read, and the life you're leading...you wouldn't be you if you'd had a different mother. bouquet

I've missed your goofy humor, Mastic. cheers

I don't know who he is, but he's hot and he plays a darned good drum!

(Better than just saying 'bump'. laugh)

RE: INTRO

Welcome back! wave

RE: 2 of my friends have been suspended from here....

Welcome back, Mastic...and what, might I ask, did you do to the nun that got you suspended for 3 days? doh

RE: 2 of my friends have been suspended from here....

Yeah, pack attacks...and I won't stand for those either when I see them. We're all supposed to be adults here...but sadly, we seem to have lost a lot of the adults to people like the two who did that attack. sigh

RE: 2 of my friends have been suspended from here....

I recognized who they were attacking and reported them, especially since I noticed that MF wasn't on to defend herself or do anything about them.

Funny thing about me, I'm more likely to report someone for attacking another member here than for attacking me. They attack me, I laugh and move on...but that was a prolonged attack of several posts within a thread, and I won't stand for that towards any member here.
