Believe me, things, namely crime, which occurred and is still occurring in Croatia is much worse than that. For example: Here was made "de-industrialization", everything was stolen and industry was destroyed. Croatia before the war, by European standards,was moderately developed industrial country. Now we are talking about the re-industrialization of the country because we don't have nothing to sell to EU! By my calculations ( I've worked in banks, so I understand the money) since 1990. - 2013 was stolen in cash and gods over $ 100 billion. We are indebted to over 50 billion euros. Money borrowed is stolen leaving to us debts to pay them. We import all food and allthough we have too much very fertile soil. Young people, educated are to emigrate. Every year here dies 10,000 people more than newborn. .
Etc.
We say: " Each state has its own mafia. In Croatia, the mafia has its own state."
We hope thatt EU will help us to vin the Mafia and to create the rule of law.
But as we were on a junction of 2 great empires: Austroungarian, Otoman and Venice influences of all of them are more or less present. So, as you said, in continental parts it is Austroungarian, on Adriatic coast Mediterranean and in a regions which were on a frontier with turks, some Turkish.

But we are far from that what people on west think about us.
We had kingdom here while Picts were running the job in Britain but 400 years of war against Turks ruined us. Because we suffered about 1,5 million casualities in this war we newer suceeded to develop our nation on more than 4.500.000 souls.

As a metter of fact I don't understand how we still egsist at all.
Look, we are only 4.280.000 and in EU population we are less than 1 % , more like statistic error than serious number, but we wish to make some things here for ourselvs and we need EU to realise that.
We are in the same situation as you are, even much worse.
But I am optimist.
We have 10 % of mediterranerian coast of Europa. Our ports are the nearest ports for whole middle Europa, roads, trains for east - west, south - north are going through Cro., we have excellent soil, .. we have possibilities to be industrial country as we were before Mafija here started to rule.
We have a lot of possibilities.
We aspect, the most, that EU will compel our politicians to assure more law and order here.
We don't want to be nobodies banana state or something like this, what we are now.
20 Euros woman in Dubrovnik are not for sure from Dubrovnik the same way as gonorea which you will buy from them for only 20 Euros is not domestic origin but is original, anyway.

I do not know whether the majority of Irish fans know but the Croatian fans have a special relationship with the Irish and Scottish fans because we have so much in common in our history that you are at us regarded as one of us.
We are all small nations that have suffered for centuries and fought for survival in our own countries under our own sun against a million times stronger than us .. and we survived.

It is therefore natural that when ever plays your national teams ( or Scottish ) against ours, our fans come to drink beer with yours, all together in our restaurants and we all sing our fans songs, all in the greatest friendship and without incident.
Catastrophic is that the richest Cypriots have already moved their money out of Cyprus, and now this tax applies only to ordinary citizens who had the least of the loans raised by the rich at the expense of the state and robbed.
