I have played piano since age 5 and recorded songs as a songwriter. I still play several times a week. Grew up on classical, then started writing songs at age 13.
I can't sing a lick, in fact whenever I make demo tapes, I have to actually sing the melody on a separate track and trust me there is laughter on that track as well as the singer, my partner, and the producer usually laugh....
