Yes I would do it anyways. I would sit down and talk to them and see why they are feeling this way. But in the end its your happyness and they should want you to be happy. If you have only known this person a short time then that might be they're concern, and thats understandable. But like I said, talking about it and open communication is important. But when it comes down to it, its your decision to make and they should respect that and still be there for you.
I don't know what to say other than I'm sorry. I've had loved ones in my life die, I know how hard it can be to loose somebody that your close too. Do you have anybody you can talk about this too?
Just because you haven't had a date in two years doesn't mean your doing anything wrong. You just haven't found anybody worth spending your time with. Just hang out in the forums and get to know people, you'll do fine.
