RE: How do you drink your beer?

Normally I avoid beers however lately, I've sampled some from Granville Island brewery in Vancouver and a few, especially their dark ones are , to me, close to actually being delicious...one even reminded me of an old one produced in Ohio, I believe called Hoppin' Gator...seems to have been blended with fruits...and it dissapeared...it was excellent.
Specially produced Halloween brews here , blended with pumpkin spices are still a bit on the bitter side but are getting better and is usually sold out within an hour. One from a local brewery called Swann's Pumpkin Ale is rather good; they all come in bottles only.wine

RE: Canadian Long Gun Registry :

One of things that still totally mystifies me about Canada is that given all the cross border influences that go north from the US and the rather paltry amount that goes south to the US from Canada, is that no where in Canada, despite all the pro sentiments concerning the right to own and have guns, both rifles and pistols, that there is nothing even close to the American NRA(not the modern-day version that seems only concerned with raising moneys and hiring lobbyists to badger any and all legislatice governments in each state and their Federal Government on a 24-7 basis making themselves totally obnoxious and generally making people bored with them, but the pre 1980's version NRA that quietly did the same general type of work in a much more reasonable manner, most times on a one to one basis, and being helped by all sorts of social and professional groups to help maintain a positive regard and outlook ; certainly a more positive attitude towards guns and the legitimate owners and dealers. From PTA's to all the Scout organizations to all sport clubs to all the groups like the Lions, Elks, Forestry workers, Game wardens, police organizations etc. etc. And yes, I do know and understand why the NRA has basically changed / meta-morphed into what is now euphemistically called 'the gun lobby'; all the combined anti-gun groups, media, people/victims of shooting crimes, etc. etc.)
Having learned my shooting skills and respect for guns from both the NRA at their indoor and outdoor ranges in Washington DC and even starting in the Cub-scouts through the Explorer level, I simply cannot understand how Canada has so dismally failed to help their citizens obtain or appreciate the civic duties and responsibilities in allowing guns to be owned by any citizen.
I remember the NRA's magazine The American Rifleman...one on the first pages in every issue as far back as I recall, was called The Armed Citizen. It listed crimes against people all across the US every month in which an armed citizen had to defend themselves with/ by or even having to actually fire, using a gun. To give an example :"After repeated break- ins at his father's Moses Lake, Wash.; gas station, Micheal Curtis began sleeping at the station. The vigil ended when Curtis, armed with a shotgun, apprehended three burglars, two of whom were former employees. (The Daily Herald, Moses Lake, Wash. 7/11/79
Another read:"Shortly before closing time, two armed men entered a Grand Rapids, Mich. grocery and announced a hold-up. When one of them jumped the counter and pointed a gun at part-owner Theodor Tonning, the grocer pulled a gun and fired, wounding him. The other robber, who was armed with a sawed-off rifle, took a shot at Tonning, but the rifle misfired; Tonning fired and killed the man. (The Press, Grand Rapids, Mich. 6/18/79 No citizen defending or making an arrest until police showed up was charged. In Canada the police would automatically charge whomever defended themselves or made a citizen's arrest with an assortment of gun related charges to begin with...To me that is in itself criminal.
On this page it was stated: Mere presence of a firearm, without a shot being fired, prevents crime in many instances, as shown by news reports sent to the The Armed Citizen. Shooting usually can be justified only where crimes constitutes an immediate threat to life and limb or, in some circumstances, property. This should be and should always have been the attitude of all Canadians, especially the courts and police. Imo!

RE: Canadian Long Gun Registry :

Agree totally. It was a bad policy from the moment of conception. It belongs in the same realm as a sword registry, or one for butcher knives and meat cleavers and razor edged cutters.
Having 'grown up' with the US NRA and learning all about all types of guns in the Scouts, I see no valid coherent thought behind any registration, with the sole exception of full automatic weapons, cannons, rockets etc. so easily attainable on the US surplus market at bargain basement prices; but simply for inventory purposes; same as when one buys a tank, one must sign Federal docs. to dismantle any weapons systems that may still be operating,( strange logic in that, that restriction does not apply to hand grenades if one buys them from an authorized arms dealer). All countries should need no more laws or restrictions that Switzerland has. Unfortunately, several countries have a gun-worshiping, violence prone 'shoot-em-up' attitudes history, which is the antitheses of the population of the Swiss and most European populations. Yet, most European countries don't dare be as free in their gun laws(gun control) ...go figureconfused

RE: How much baggage is too much?

Hello Ray,
Seems we have both spent way too much time with those that just had too much to deal with and could not despite our best efforts to help them cope and possibly find a more healthy method to resolve their issues. I did not spend as long as you did with her, as she self destructed after only a few short years...I just wish to this day that all those who knew her and her issues would have clued me in as I had no idea what she had hidden until it all exploded suddenly.
If I ever meet someone else, one of my prime concerns would be not to add to whatever baggage she may have; I have dealt with mine , I think/ hope adequately after my wife died though the motivations were mixed from sheer frustration, incredulity, to anger and remorse over what could have possibly been avoided. Secrets do not for a good relationship make and tragically it has consequences on a child or children. I've had to deal with mine who have been ,in different degrees, affected by he secrets and actions. How they deal with their mother's baggage, in their own ways only time will tell, as I guess should I be so fortunate to meet someone again, as to just how well I've really 'left my old baggage behind'. I don't & didn't need it and don't want any more.wine

RE: Muslim and Catholic love....

Christians and Muslims have been intermarrying for hundreds of years. No Christian sect as of yet has any interdiction against marrying outside their faith, not even the rabid evangelicals for all their pronouncements against other religions or sects. Muslims have long ago made accommodations to marry both Christians and Jews. It is as they say, we are peoples of 'the book'. The Book meaning peoples from the ancient Babylonian (post Marduk) religions, the OT and the New Testament. In the Muslim Koran, there is no conflict there. The Jews also have no laws or customs forbidding marriage with Muslims. Most families from the Middle East have relatives from all the major religions. The conflicts are all based on either one trying to dominate another culture to the point of accepting genocide as a viable option to total control, or seemingly to actually believe that (their) god has told them to 'take over' no holds barred...People generally don't much like being taken over by another, let alone wiped out, either culturally or physically; their own god never told them to give up and surrender...no God ever has.

You two seem to be the exception to all the general rules here on CS regarding a relationship falling apart, be it days, months or years.
It is both fantastic and amazing; shame your devotion, happiness and success isn't contagious...bouquet wine

RE: How much baggage is too much?

From what you have not said, one can gather that neither you nor men in general have any sort of 'heavy baggage' to carry around and only women do. That impression is of course ludicrous. We both all carry some less or more than others depending upon our own personal circumstances.
The 'mental abuses',estrangements, dominated personalities, etc. etc. are not exclusive to women. Perhaps a bit more of old fashioned human compassion for our fellow humans would be more conducive to a better development of any relationship that is not merely perfunctory in nature. Neither men nor women need a adversarial relationship, but then again, we in general are not really qualified to give more than possibly helpful advice/ counseling in the same manner that we would to a close relative or friend, depending upon attitudes and circumstances and the projected nature of the relationship. One certainly does not have to take a medical attitude if someone we met expresses at some point, their prior problems/ experiences with an ex. We have all gathered our own set of peculiar problems. Sometimes sharing them can lead to a deep respectful type of relationship. Closing all doors to this is symbolically having a sign on your front door that says 'Welcome. Please leave all baggage outside.'
Human beings are not stones that roll and gather no moss, as it were.
We roll with the punches of life and a bit of 'dirt' stays on us all. If we can't seem to get it all off, then perhaps , if we are lucky, we find someone who helps us get it off...dunno wine

RE: no true love anywhere

'True' Love; True 'Love' or 'True Love', it's all the same; all spelled
M O N E Y...once it's gone, so is (usually) the woman. Same as when a man(husband) looses his job and the family is facing debt; out the door the wife goes; as anyone ever heard of a husband or boyfriend leaving a woman if she ever lost her job...as a song says, "That's life"...That is true love at it's best: temporary, 'til debt do us part'...wine

RE: I WOULD LIKE TO THANK THOSE WHO SERVE AND SERVED IN THE NAME OF PEACE

There is a lot more of piecekeeking than peacekeeping in this world, especially by the one arrogant enough to call itself The New World Order...(should really be ordure). Taking a piece here and there rather than helping any countries settle their cnflicts peacefully through negotiations without resorting to armed conflict. If armed conflicy simply cannot be avoided, then it really should be leader against leader and leave the countries people out of it all. If not, perhaps in the case of one population actually wanting war, then all others should simply bomb them back to that proverbial 'stone age'. Perhaps then there will no longer be any around to call itself The New World Order...and everyone on this planet can rest easy and get on with their lives.
Personally, I would like to see ALL armies reduced to those of Andorra and San Marino...hell, their SWAT teams carry crossbows! Nice...grin
Look them up...

RE: WHICH WAS JESUS CHRIST'S SECOND NAME?

On the tax and family names which originated from the census taken Yehudi ben Josef was as a child. At whatever the 'age of majority' it changed to Jesus(Yehudi) of Nazareth. Names and family names sometimes attached their clan name. Both religious and civic (census and Govt.usage) were used. Each province still had some autonomy under the Roman administrations. Clear as mud...

RE: Find an accommodation in DC

Whatever website you use, just make sure you find someplace on upper Connecticut Avenue or Georgetown; study a map of DC; the upper areas north of Rock Creek are reasonably safe and clean. The area known as Foggy Bottom is extremely nice; large houses with rooms to rent. Good luck and enjoy your stay.

RE: To Have Loved, or Not Loved At All

Interesting but a common enough take on this type of situation. For myself, it has/ was never the money, ever, but the emotional pain and loss. Life goes on regardless money always comes back faster than emotions can heal...if ever...

RE: MEDICATION

Thank Dobe. I really appreciate that. Everyone knew but me. After she died, I found her journals and read of all the hospitals she had been to and even committed...She hid very well. This is one reason that full disclosure on profiles that in the end, just MAY save a life; the other person or even one's own life...her own brother and parents denied she ever had any problems...words fail me to explain it all even after all these years...sigh wine

RE: MEDICATION

They will tell no one and neither will their closest friends. You certainly are right about not being able to make them admit to taking meds...wish I could have then I may have known how to deal with my wife before she went off the deep end with hers and committed suicide.
Someone should have told me about her well hidden problems but no one would and so our 2 children and myself lost her...admit openly any potential dangerous addictions to meds. Her doctor only told me after she was dead...a hell of a lot of good that did for us...frustrated sigh

RE: Is Your CIty Occupied??? {USA}

Traveled alone since childhood all over the world. If company comes along, it is pure happens-chance for a little while. As much as one may like company, one cannot force oneself on someone else...
