RE: US is negotiating with Taliban

"peace" is an interesting concept; a piece here; a piece there and when one has enough pieces, you are supposed to end up with Peace...very confusing when it doesn't work that way.
Peace demands solutions, but we never reach living solutions; we only work toward them.
A fixed solution is, by definition, a dead solution. The trouble with Peace is that it tends to punish mistakes instead of rewarding brilliance by those who negotiated the Peace. However...the usual short term expediencies always fail in the long term, as it surely must with any 'peace accord' when dealing with the Taliban; heirs to those so called 'mountain savages' as one referred to them. Not once have any invader left Afghanistan with anything remotely resembling 'an honourable exit; or 'withdrawal'; a defeat by any other name is still a defeat and over time all efforts and works along with all the sacrifices by the invaders will blow away in the dust storms while the Taliban and their heirs continue on just as if no invader had ever come. Who ever dares again to come, will find the Afghans even more deadly.
There is absolutely nothing morally sacred, or fixed eternally in marble, about a county's territorial borders or form of government that a country must take. Rather, the only sensible justification for preserving---or changing them is that in doing so would clearly provide the greatest amount of liberty and well being to the people who actually live there. It will be their interpretation and understanding of those concepts that will prevail; NOT any former invader nor any non Islamic perceptions.

Yes, the dude...I wonder if he'd like to be Obama's guest at his resort spa at Gitmo, Cuban Riviera; wonder how long he'd sing hymns of praise for him...laugh
You've recovered enough to take a krav maga course...life in the UK must be an 'interesting challenge'; didn't you basically learn all that in school on the playgrounds? (Public schools) Perhaps you should have attended public schools in Washington DC..laugh
You certainly seem in fine spirits at least. Stay safe wine

RE: US is negotiating with Taliban

Way back in the very early days of the US invasion, when Karzai was still a mere potential long shot to possibly become an appointee by the US govt. to be put in charge of the new forthcoming US occupation govt. there, one of the interviews published in Time Magazine made the observation that even as a CIA resource, Karzai was held by many at the agency as 'unreliable'. One of the items Karzai mentioned in the interview was that the best possible solution to a protracted war was through a negotiated peace with the Taliban. Seems a lot of people have a case of convenient amnesia, as usual.

Try putting your sheets and pillow cases in the fridge after you get up, then an hour or so before you go to bed, take them out and lay them out on your bed...always works for megrin wine

RE: How many of you in the forums are actually looking? Be honest, now.

Earlier last month a survey was done of people in 16 countries, including the UK,China, Brazil and Mexico. The people were asked which of the following were they the most afraid of: being alone; losing your looks; going broke or speaking in public. This month, 9 countries chose being alone, loneliness being the no. 1 fear. The remaining seven, with Canada included, picked going broke in today's rather turbulent economy. What really surprised people was North America's presumed obsession with age: only 13% of Canadians and 7% of Americans were concerned about losing their looks, but the flip side was China, Spain and Germany were more concerned with losing theirs...This added up to 23% of the votes in all 3 countries. Not having someone with whom to share love with; to be lonely still far outweighs all other things in and about life.
Seemed as good a place as any to insert this not no little tid-bit about the subject or finding someone or not...

The fourth option seems to fit.

RE: is communism possible?

Eliminate the money systems and you have the basic Gene Roddenberry world of the future...
All systems fail; some of the failures are catastrophic and fatal.
Human beings are fallible. We are the primary cause of all system failures, nothing hard to understand.
How many here have read the novel K Pax on which the film of that name is bases; in the novel, more so than in the film, Sproot(?) describes how life is on his planet...food for thought...grin

Both my country and its flag have been obliterated but its heritage still lives in the hearts of many.

RE: What is it different what a man do for a woman when he really loves her, eternally

Yes, I mean eternally, till death make us apart innocent

Ok, 'a bit heavy' as one expression goes, but looking to our world being the best of all possibilities, then yes, eternally would be nice if not ideal; it would remedy all sorts of problems without necessarily causing others. (If eternally/ til Death do us part actually existed and people held both morally and legally responsible to actually live it, they most likely behave quite differently than they do now, knowing that they can simply walk out when it suits them). People would certainly not marry as nonchalantly, without much thought or regards to commitment or responsibilities. Those require very serious thought; it is easier not to really think... This is a totally disposable society; everything, everyone is disposable; it doesn't seem to really bother anyone; universal attitude is 'who cares'...Can those types of attitudes be changed to once again accept the seriousness of a marriage with the 'til death do us part' actually meaning that? Do people in general really want that to be enforceable...would people even accept getting out of a marriage as hard or easy as it is to get of military service for instance??
Marriage is not a crime, nor should it be perceived as such; it does need a re-awakening of spirit for sure; to restore some measures of dignity and honour to it, but that depends on people and their basic values and any sense of morality(if they even have one). Marriage is a social core issue; the 'til death do us part' can only have real meaning in a society that truly means a commitment to its ideals and works sometimes hard to make marriages work for the obligations and joys of both parties...ok, now, I'll remove the Peter Pan style tinted sunglasses...

RE: Patriotism

Thank you dear lady for continuing about Texas and how it won its independence from Mexico.
After I saw Disney's version of Davy Crockett and the Alamo, I wanted to learn all I could about the entire topic...even built a scale model of the Alamo and had it on display in Washington Dc at the main hobby shop for military miniatures. That was fun.grin

RE: What is it different what a man do for a woman when he really loves her, eternally

'involve with her eternally?'
Hmmmmmm, are you sure that you meant 'eternally' and not 'internally'??? Eternally is rather 'heavy'...a very special kind of strength is needed for that...laugh

"The colonization of Texas as a Mexican state brought Anglos westward from the United States and Mexicans northward"

Perhaps you'd care to reread some basic American ,(or Mexican) history books on the subject of Texas. Texas was already a State in the Republic of Mexico which Mexico inherited as part of the former Spanish territory upon independence from Spain. It was also already settled by Spanish, Mexican and various indigenous natives, though sparsely. Mexico opened their state to settlers from the US and elsewhere. It was not an independent, nor free State as you imply by your wording. It reads as if Texas existed prior to Mexico, which it certainly did not.

RE: Patriotism

Very well put, indeed. It is very obvious that you have taken a good long look at this. That is always the best way to appraise for yourself just how you feel as it is, in the end, your life and the lives of all you hold dear. I went much further in regards to dealing with those whom I and many others held to be traitors ; one has to at some point as it is usually they who would put all those whom you love and all that you truly believe in, into harms way. This is always a dilemma and there is not always a good solution. Many peoples now face this. There is but one ultimate answer but each must find their own way to it, either individually or in concert with others. It is your future for your country to which any regime change will only change the names of the traitors but not the direction of the treason...wine

Poll Question: When it gets serious?
Poller: gaze9

How people interpret the word 'serious' is relative; I've known men that became seriously 'enchanted' and/or obsessed with a woman the first time they saw her with a telescope through her window...or had their first drunk together...even had their first toke together...(oh wow, you're cool, babe...)
I've thought that having tokes together pretty 'groovy'...laugh
I may be wrong as Ive seen some men try to take the poor woman with them after they inserted some cash into her G string while she turned and twisted on a pole... rolling on the floor laughing
Serious is truly a very relative term...grin

RE: The Cave (A safe haven for Trolls)

One method of proving that one is a Troll is to resubmit a changed profile ie. Name: Troll; or Troll,Jr.; Troll # 1, etc. with appropriate photo, of course.... Basically the same 'proof' that one 'proves' they are a human; which of course is still an allegation open to challenge and dispute by anyone...
The 'right' to label anyone here a 'troll' is simply another allegation made by an alleged human, for whatever that is worth, which given our location here, proves absolutely nothing. Remember that according to that overweight slob Winston Churchill,"We are all worms, but I do believe I am a glow-worm". There you have it, from the worm himself.
Could there be a website such as trollsRus,com or something??
Now that would be a very popular and busy site indeed, with lots from here trolling away quite happily just as if they were in their own little minds; provided they, in fact, had a mind...which we severely doubt...grin

RE: The Cave (A safe haven for Trolls)

An 'expiry date' for you?? Ha! You seem to have such an 'effervescent' personality that the date would likely read Expires June 2087 or something...laugh

RE: Is there a probability of an alien contact in our lifetime ?

It is far more than mere 'anecdotal'. Depictions on walls of ancient ruined temples, columns, assorted monuments and obelisks and even cuneiform tablets and papyri clearly show them and label the depictions, including some species of animals never known on this planet as recently discovered in southeastern Turkey. Those are tangible cold hard depictions. There is one and only one that I've heard of or have seen; it is sadly, under lock and key at the British Museum and available only by request from historians, archeologists etc. It is a plaque from ancient Sumer showing all the planets and their orbits and named in order as described as entering the solar system from the outside...In the opinion of a growing number of various scientists in related disciplines relating to this topic, in books and interviews, this is even better than some ancient wall depictions of what appear to be stage rockets in silos under the ground surface...which still is debated, but much less so than just a few years ago by both Israeli archeologists and military experts... Some hope to find remnants of actual craft by trying to follow depictions of detailed aerial combat and surface to air destruction of flying craft...Hmmmmmmm; good luck with that one, It would be far easier to excavate the island of Elephantine ...the reputed burial vaults of some of these ancient "gods"...

RE: IF YOU BUILD IT, THEY WILL COME

There are those who,(seriously!), wish to build a wall around the entire Sahara Desert, to stop desertification, on the same scale as The Great Wall of China. If built, it surely will be the planet's largest sand box,(could come in handy for an unlimited supply of sand for cat litter, or where the world's dictators could rule their own dunes...). So far, no one seems to be in a rush with funds for the project, nor is anyone showing up with their shovels ready for full time employment...puzzling.
