I understand your frustration. What you thought was a valid arguement isn't. So admit you're wrong, and a bigot, and we'll forget about the whole sordid mess...
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
First you defend thechurches, but once the bible shws you're wrong, you change your stance...
You haven't read the bible front to back as you claim.
This is found in Psalms.
"Blessed is he who bashes the babies against the stones."
God COMMANDED atrocities. You would know that if you ever actually read the bible.
Ever read Mosiac Law? Talk about ridiculous. And you say God Policed the Earth? How? By telling us to stone unruly teens, non-virgins, those who work on the SSabbath, etc, etc, etc?
The problem with Pascal's Wager (which is what you just posted) is that you are believing out of fear. Not because you truly believe.
Me? I'd rather live my live without fear.
IF there is a god (Which evidence points to NO), he's all loving and gave me the mind to think for myself. This mind, which led me to research, which led me the atheism, would be the gift "god" gave me. I think an all-loving diety would forgive me for not believing.
There shouldn't be ANY churchs or synagogues according to the New Testament. Worship is a private matter.
Your arguement fails from the get-go.
Matt 6:5
5"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 6But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
I believe that as the sands of the desert continue to blow away, more about the Sumerians and their influence on those such as Abraham will become more and more apparent.
The Sumerians came first, and all the best known biblical stories can be found in their origional forms in their ancient writings.
The flood Creation of man from mud (Named "A-Dom") Laws and "Commandments" Miracles The list goes on.
One thing to note is that along with the Sumerians having the first anthropomorphic gods, the patriarch of the desert religions, Abraham, came from the Sumerian city of Ur, so all he did was take the fables he learned from the Sumerians and turned them into his own cult.
The history is there one just has to read more than one book.
The Fundy Christian can make crazy judgements, besmirch the integrity of those who disagree with dogma, and then expect an invisible fairy to glow with pride over one's achievements.
All the while being hateful, ungracious, and petty when presenting the unverified, unproven "facts" of their end all be all belief system. Let us all bask in this glow of humility!
That's from our old friend Paul. You know the one who authored 50% of the NT...
Here's Paul's thoughts on women...
Women are inferior to men: "A man is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man." (1 Cor. 11:7)
Women are weaker than men: "Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner" (1 Peter 3:7)
Women should be silent in church: "As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches." (1 Cor. 14:34)
Women must not have authority over men: "I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man." (1 Tim. 2:12-14)
Women are saved through bearing children: "But women will be saved through childbearing." (1 Tim. 2:15)
Women must cut their hair off if they don't cover it: "If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off." (1 Cor. 11:6)
"Put your hand on a hot stove for a minute, and it seems like an hour. Sit with a pretty girl for an hour, and it seems like a minute. THAT's relativity." Einstein.
Are you saying that if one understands the Bible they shouldn't question it?
That's ridiculous. ANY book that contains discrepancies, plagurisms, additions, etc deserved to be questioned and scrutinized.
I'm more interested in the History rather than the mysterious. The Bible has long been used to kill and stifle people. I think what bugs most believers is that people are finally talking about it without fear of torture.
To use the quote in the OP is misleading, as Einstein was agnostic. When taken in with various other quotes from Einstein, one sees that Albert's god is NOT the God so the Bible..
"I see only with deep regret that God punishes so many of His children for their numerous stupidities, for which only He Himself can be held responsible; in my opinion, only His nonexistence could excuse Him."
"My position concerning God is that of an agnostic. I am convinced that a vivid consciousness of the primary importance of moral principles for the betterment and ennoblement of life does not need the idea of a law-giver, especially a law-giver who works on the basis of reward and punishment."
"There is nothing divine about morality, it is a purely human affair."
"In their struggle for the ethical good, teachers of religion must have the stature to give up the doctrine of a personal God, that is, give up that source of fear and hope which in the past placed such vast power in the hands of priests. In their labors they will have to avail themselves of those forces which are capable of cultivating the Good, the True, and the Beautiful in humanity itself. This is, to be sure, a more difficult but an incomparably more worthy task... "
Christianity borrowed everything it believes from ancient pagan religions. Death and ressurection, crucifixion, Christmas, the Last supper, Baptism by water, salvation, eternal life, heaven and hell, the list goes on.
This needs more attention. The Bible says no one can add or take away from scripture. Yet we know these facts to be true:
Mark 16 :9 - 20 is a fabrication and an addition to the Gospel.
John 8 the famous "He who is without sin" story is a fabrication and added to the origional texts.
John 5 :7 is not in early texts.
And many more.
Even supposed mentions of Jesus by first century historians are fabrications. Josephus is the prime example...The statements regarding Christ were added by a scribe.
St Jerome admitted that lying was a part of winning converts. So did Martin Luther and Esubius.
Even Pope Leo X said "What a great profit this fable of Jesus has been for us."...Paul himself...author of 50% of the NT admits to lying to gain converts
If we can find ONE addition/interlopation, then who knows how many MORE there are?
Find one, and the entire book demands scrutiny and cannot be taken as authoritative.
Psalms are part of the OT. Written supposedly by David (a Jew).
No, they're not part of the first five books of the Bible, but Jesus refers to Psalms as well as Genesis. The Bible is supposed to be the inerrant word of god. Psalms would be included to self-substantiate the story.
The point of the plagurized flood myth is that Noah is taken as absolute truth, when the story existed long before Genesis.
RE: To many temples and mosque not enough churches ,or not you tell me
Facts are facts and you are an idiot.I understand your frustration. What you thought was a valid arguement isn't. So admit you're wrong, and a bigot, and we'll forget about the whole sordid mess...
