good stuff. I was out on the town last night and today i've realised it's never a good idea to take your credit card out when you're guttered. i've realised this before. I expect it won't be to long til I realise it again
one of my best friends grew up in a small town. I stayed there for a while and after a month I could see exactly why he'd almost had a nervous breakdown. it was a miserable, hostile place. I was glad to get out
When you're growing up in a small town When you're growing up in a small town When you're growing up in a small town You say no one famous ever came from here When you're growing up in a small town and you're having a nervous breakdown and you think that you'll never escape it Yourself or the place that you live Where did Picasso come from There's no Michelangelo coming from Pittsburgh If art is the tip of the iceberg I'm the part sinking below
When you're growing up in a small town Bad skin, bad eyes - gay and fatty People look at you funny When you're in a small town My father worked in construction It's not something for which I'm suited Oh - what is something for which you are suited? Getting out of here
I hate being odd in a small town If they stare let them stare in New York City at this pink eyed painting albino How far can my fantasy go? I'm no Dali coming from Pittsburgh No adorable lisping Capote My hero - Oh do you think I could meet him? I'd camp out at his front door There is only one good thing about small town There is only one good use for a small town There is only one good thing about small town You know that you want to get out
When you're growing up in a small town You know you'll grow down in a small town There is only one good use for a small town You hate it and you'll know you have to leave
I believe it was a scottish guy-ferguson- back in the 1700s who first came up with the phrase "civil society" and the theory during the period of enlightenment. there was also adam smith who wrote a lot of ideas about this. de-toqueville's "democracy in america" is an excellent book that expands on the ideas. german philosopher hegel also wrote a lot and obviously marx had quite a few things to say to.
not really, I was expecting a lot better than what we saw. I think the campaign on both sides has been quite poor. much of it has dealt with things which have little, if any meaning to the average person. instead we've seen ridiculous levels of slander and character assassination. i'm surprised at the democrats championing nuclear power. clearly there is an agenda on behalf of the multi-nationals to convince the public that somehow, magically, that's safe now. of course, it isn't but you can bet mainstream media will be firmly on message. I thought palin was quite interesting but she's pro-life and I firmly believe that government should not meddle with people's personal lives. whoever wins the presidency is going to be in trouble because the recession is just starting and there are various other economic problems rising from the banking and insurance sector. still, it'll be interesting whatever happens
that's interesting. it's a nice but of history to own. I went to ibiza once. hated it. it was full of screeching idiots in union jack t-shirts. I lasted about two days and then moved up the coast and found a nice wee village. forget the name but it was much better
yeah. I like errol. he was a man's man. i've got a great book about vietnam called, "dispatches" and errol's son is in it. apparently he was just as wild as his dad
I first heard the velvet underground when I was 13/14 and they changed my life. sounds a bit dramatic I know but nonetheless it's true. when I was that age the future was allready mapped out-leave schoool, get a girlfriend, get a job, get a mortgage, get married, have kids. it was listening to lou reed that I learned it didn't have to be that way. that there were other options available and what a relief that was.
the one I saw was on the beeb and mccain had to say that obama wasn't a terrorist but a good american and all that. still, it'll be an interesting debate tonight because so far I don't think either of them have talked about china bankrolling the us which is pretty important. i'd like to know what they think about that little time bomb
I saw a clip on the news the other day. it was a woman at asking mccain if obama was a terrorist. it was quite shocking. a perfect example of what the media can do to a credulous mind. i've also seen very smart people arguing over sarah palin's hairstyle.
what is interesting is how again and again bright, intelligent people continue to fall for this blatant democracy charade. it is completely irrelevant whether republicans or democrats win the election. they are merely different wings working for the same company. indeed, politicians are little more than cartoons. puppets there to entertain and distract the audience from the business dealings of corporate america. it works too. one need only look at the frenzy people work themselves into regarding the likes of mccain and obama. fundamentally they are one and the same. yet this is continually brushed over, conveniently unremarked upon by a media whose sole job is to stop any discourse or examination and to sell a fantasy to a credulous public
there are people who have nothing to offer but criticism and sarcasm. the dreary and the dead. always ready with a put down. unable to laugh unless it's at someone else's expense and mistaking their self loathing for self confidence. the best thing is to laugh in their miserable faces and carry on being who you want to be
cigarettes and chocolate milk these are just a couple of my cravings everything it seems i like's a little bit stronger a little bit thicker a little bit harmful for me
if i should buy jellybeans have to eat them all in just one sitting everything it seems i like's a little bit sweeter a little bit fatter a little bit harmful for me
and then there's those other things which for several reasons we won't mention everything about them is a little bit stranger a little bit harder a little bit deadly
it isn't very smart tends to make one part so broken-hearted
sitting here remembering me always been a shoe made for the city go ahead, accuse me of just singing about places with scrappy boys faces have general run of the town playing with prodigal songs takes a lot of sentimental valiums can't expect the world to be your raggedy andy while running on empty you little old doll with a frown
you got to keep in the game maintaining mystique while facing forward i suggest a reading of 'a lesson in tightropes' or 'surfing your high hopes' or 'adios kansas'
it isn't very smart tends to make one part so broken-hearted
still there's not a show on my back holes or a friendly intervention i'm just a little bit heiress, a little bit irish a little bit tower of pisa whenever i see you so please be kind if i'm a mess
in the kitchen we say some nasty s@@t to each other. usually the nastier the better but it stays in the kitchen and ends with the shift. i've tried working in the 9-5 world with the suits and the squares and just couldn't make it. talk about a slow death. anyway, I noticed straight away that no-one ever says anything outright. they talk behind people's backs, they hide what they think for fear of losing respectability and take all that petty crap home for their partners to enjoy. obviously I didn't last long, being used to having screaming matches, throwing pans through windows and turning the air blue. it's a much healthier world. you never go home angry, there's no backstabbing and you get to keep your self respect.
3 older sisters who i'm very close to and see every other week. we have all had our arguments but they're quickly forgotten. our mother died when I was young and my dad (understandably) went off the deep end for a while and they're the ones who somehow kept us all together .
as I understand it the credit crunch actually started last year. several investment firms and insurance companies had began to get worried about the sub-prime market and also the rise in crop prices. I think nothing was really done because the markets were all trading high. the banks were all lending to each other at fairly low interest rates but it had been known for years that the sub-prime market was a dangerous one. mainly because those mortgages were given to people with low incomes and often without credit checks. when the oil prices and commodoties trade went through the roof towards the end of last year that was when those on low incomes began to feel the pinch. that, coupled with the end of fixed rate mortgages was what really set the dominos falling. investment firms had hoped to contain the damage to the sub-prime market but the economy was allready going into a downward spiral and as we've seen the damage spread out into the global market and
yeah, he's a handsome devil, I think he knows it too. I used to have 2 golden retrievers and they were great. i'd wanted to another 2 but I'm out all the time so it wouldn't have been fair
