What's your view of Africa?

Are you schizophrenic? When did I call you boy? And I've got no clue why you're telling me about your colour. I'm going to ask you again, who are they going to go help? Which village? Which tribe? You do know that the Africans taken from Africa did come from 'different tribes' right? And you do know that Africa is not just one place right? Lets not remember that those that came were supposed to do away with any memory of Africa, forget your name, forget your culture, forget your heritage - America was their new home now. So I guess if you don't see them running back over there in droves its because the experiment(or was that the lashes and other forms of cruelty) to make them forget worked TOO WELL. But I suppose the links between that blood that suffered many moons ago and what happens now would be lost on you.

Well there is that nasty business of Greed, Colonization, Ignorance, Lack of education, Lack of understanding of people's history, Lack of understanding of human nature.....I could go on, and this is both from within and from the outside world. Without all the pieces to the puzzle how can one judge.

Hey Thump Interesting points. But which Africans are you referring to? Remember its not just made up of one type of people or one place. And I would rather doubt everyone there is running around begging for aid.

The media is a powerful tool. Depending on how it is used it can paint a picture that is either bad or good about a place. For many the vision when it comes to Africa is either that of starving children with distended abdomens and flies hovering or despotic rulers who seek after their own wealth and power while ignoring the needs of their people or a place of vast wealth that has been often exploited for the benefit of outsiders. But what is the true face of Africa? I think she has many faces. I think some tend to forget that Africa is made up of many different people in terms of race, religion, culture. Its a place of vast beauty but many have suffered their fair share of pain and horror there as well. I think its a more complex place than what might be shown by the media. Your thoughts please.

BOY OR GIRL?

Just thought I'd share this interesting tidbit with you folks. Yesterday I was online looking for information about this interesting television series called The Tudors(It basically is the story of the Young King Henry the VIII)and it struck me of how important it had been then(and now)for many to have a male child as opposed to a female one.

In many cultures boys are still more highly prized than girls. What fascinated me about the story of Henry The VIII is what the all consuming quest for a male heir made him do to others when in the end it was his DAUGHTER Elizabeth I that made the brilliant ruler(just goes to show you can never tell with these things). Many men want a boy so they can throw the ball around and go fishing and do manly stuff. My ex and I wanted a girl and that's what we got. However, had it gone the other way I would have been equally as pleased. In some cultures boys are the ones who inherit the property as opposed to girls. To me a country with less girls doesn't bode well for the future and could well backfire since men don't bear children. Would like to hear the views of others on this.

I guess another plus would be that reading of a successful union gives many hope that it is possible and that probably we won't all still be single on CS and using a walker to get to the computer.

I suppose on the good side, announcing lets others know you've been successful in your quest to find someone special and that you are off the market so to speak, so you won't be entertaining other suitors(hopefully). But I have found that on the negative end if the responses one gets are not good then there might be an urge to defend the relationship. This can lead to many problems. Firstly if two people REALLY believe in their love then there is nothing to defend. It is what it is. Defending only leads to trouble, where people say things they probably don't mean and cannot take back and do things that are not well thought out. Enemies made and friendships ruined. Expose a weak flank and you give an opening to those who would take advantage of it. Its just another one of the risks we take in life.

I've not been on CS as much as I would like but when I have been able to get on I've noticed a few announcing their new found happiness at finding a new love. I've always found such people to be brave souls, especially navigating the often choppy waters of public opinion on CS. Its a crap shoot as to what the responses will be. And as I've seen the last few times I've been on, things can get rather nasty. I'm more of a private person so don't think there would be any sharing for me unless its privately with a few near and dear friends, but I understand that other would prefer to let others know publicly (including those who might be viewing them as a potential mate) that they are off the market. What do others think? To announce or not?

I don't know whether the rapture will occur or not but here is what I do know I don't sit around feeling the need to have to proove anything to anybody, my neighbours are Hindu, we also have Muslims where I live. I don't cuff my beliefs down their throats and they don't cuff theirs down mine, nor do I go about arrogantly asking them to proove to me why I should believe in Lashkmi or some other Hindu God, just because I dont believe.

Because its best when people at least TRY to be honest WITH THEMSELVES about what they are really after. He could have just said "Look I saw her and wanted to jump her bones that's all". The whole 'relationship' crap - what's that about? If you already know that a woman who sleep with you is bound to be given the boot then why try getting them into bed in the first place - unless of course the man ALREADY KNOWS he is not that into her and just wants a goodbye SCREW. And the truth shall set you free.

So basically this was really about getting little Willy wet and satisfied and absolutely nothing more than that. Then why even bother to even metion the word relationship since that's not really what you were after. If it was then I doubt the woman sleeping with you on a first date would have been an issue were you REALLY into her beyond a screw. Just telling it like you paint it.

Its really great to live in a place with so many races mingling on a daily basis. On any given day you could be walking around t eh capital and see people of Indians, Chinese, Syrians, Lebanese, African and European descent, and any multitude of combinations of these and not give it a second thought, a sea of different and beautiful faces, where a Black mothers can walk around with a half chinese baby, an Indian man and a black women can stroll hand in hand and no one gives them a second look, a lot of people have some other race somewhere on their family tree and its no big deal. You date who you want there are few who will protest. My kind of place.
