RE: Being thick skinned ,is it really a good thing

So if I understand you right you're wandering if certain relationships have worked to make a person so hardened that they feel a need to overly protect themselves from further hurt(?)

To this is I say every now and then one needs to retreat and mend the hurts of the past like a butterfly building a cocoon. Then when the time is right you can emerge ready for the rest of life. The cocoon serves a purpose but there comes a time when it must be cast off, butterflies aren't meant to stay in this shell forever- its all about timing. What do you think would happen to the butterfly that stays too long in its shell? When you get the timing right and a person is truly ready wonderful things can happen.thumbs up

Ah the usual rantings I see. Same old, same old.popcorn

RE: What percentage of people on this site do you think are fakes?

I'd say there are a lot. Some genuine seekers to be sure, but my inbox tells a very different story.

RE: Cultural Relations

World Cup Menu Today:

Stewed Chicken, baked beans and carrots
Bar-b-qued Pig Tails
Grilled Potatoes
Fresh Salad

yay

RE: Cultural Relations

Well don't only take my word for it, treat yourself and your guy to a visit out here with us in the Caribbean sometime, so many different islands, so many different choices of food.wine

RE: Cultural Relations

Oh forgot to mention that both islands have their own specialties when it comes to food. There are some things typical to Tobago that you probably won't get in Trinidad e.g. Crab and Dumplins is a well know Tobago dish and there is also Coconut Tarts- again done in Tobago among other things.waiter

RE: Cultural Relations

Well it all depends on the household, in a Chinese home, or Indian home etc... the menu might be a little different.

RE: Christian's proof that there is no God. Read and see.

I get the feeling he's talking in a rhetorical sense.

RE: Cultural Relations

Well take a typical Trini Sunday lunch. In a lot of homes you might see:

Macaroni Pie

Salad made from Irish Potatoes

Callaloo (Made from the leaves and stalk of the Dasheen bush, pumpkin, ochroes or okra, some coconut milk all steamed down and swizzled together with a little seasoning pepper and salt, not the most attractive looking thing but DAMN DELICIOUS).

Stewed Chicken or Pork - made using Brown sugar

Red beans

White Rice

Fried Plantains

Fresh Salad

And that is just one type of meal, there are many variations on the theme.

RE: Christian's proof that there is no God. Read and see.

Better you than me dude, better you than me.wine

RE: Cultural Relations

When it comes to food we got it covered. We got Indian food, Chinese Food, Syrian Food, Lebanese Food, African Food, Indian Food,Italian Food etc...what can I tell you, life is a multicultural society has its plusses and you can't choose just one or two since they are all good.head banger

Songs about the ladies

For all those guys wondering if 'size' really matters, well here's your answer in Calypso. Check out the double meaning in this song.laugh

The Lord Kitchener - Dr. Kitch

Songs about the ladies

Hi Fellow Fishywave Good day to you and thanks for the compliments.hug

Songs about the ladies

Here's a humorous Calypso where the guy doesn't trust his lady to not give away his stuff to some new boyfriend when he croaks - in this case his clothes. So he wants to have all his stuff buried with him.laugh

The Growling Tiger - When I dead bury me clothes

Songs about the ladies

Here's a Calypso about a guy who got cheated out of some cash by this lady.

King Radio - Mathilda

I had a grand mother whose name was Mathilda - heard she got quite upset whenever she heard it.

Songs about the ladies

Ever notice how many songs are written or sang about men and their experiences with women? Women are definitely a popular topic. How many songs have you seen about how much a man loves a woman and can't do without her, how sad the guy is that he lost this woman, about how the woman cheated, how he's gonna fight for her love, how much better he is than some other guy and how great he is in bed, etc... In Trinidad our Calypsonians LOVE to sing about women, I'm sure its 95% of what they sing about. In the early days of the Steelpan(our national instrument) many of the violent clashes with rival steelband groups were over...you guessed it - WOMEN! A guy had to be careful if he was too friendly with a women associated with certian steelband and he was from a different band. That could lead to World War III in violent retribution. Thought it would be kinda interesting to see what songs others had heard by men about women. banana

Thank god for the forums

I say go for it, they are after all on your side right? We've got two big trees in our yard and the neighbour's tree which is a different type of Mango hangs over our fence and drops on our lawn. I'd say that's fair game.head banger

Thank god for the forums

I've tried to get interested in the chat room thing - just not my bag of mangoes.dunno

Thank god for the forums

Once upon a time I used to get excited to see my mailbox light up just wondering who had contacted me. Now if I see my mailbox light up and I see an unfamiliar name a kind of annoyance runs though me if its not someone I've seen or met on the forums. Because it very RARE and I mean RARE that its not some scamming time waster. I've gotten better now at spotting the crap but it makes me hesitant to answer mail from anyone I don't know. I've seen complaints here from guys saying how angry they are about not getting responces but I can understand how women get if that's been the majority of what you've been getting. Now I'm sure there must be normal, sane guys out there looking -I've just not come across a whole lot of them that weren't on the forums. Not saying that the forums is free of scammer types but I've done a damn lot better talking to folks on forums than those off it. Sadly the semingly normal ones are off on Mars and I'm here on Venus. So what are the odds of getting any thing much out of this? Thank God for the Forums or Lord knows what would come trawling through my mailbox, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.sigh

RE: what do you think of the vuvuzela's?

Yep I'll kinda miss them, after a while they kinda grow on you, they certainly are unique and love them or hate them they certainly were the talking point of this world cup among other things. Will miss them at the next World Cup, but hey every country had their thing and it beats dead boring silence.head banger
