In my experience, when people exaggerate and embellish stories, like "Democrats want open borders", they do so because their own stance is full of holes and cannot support their opinion.

The South China sea is a major and extremely busy shipping route, China is ensuring the safe passage of these huge container ships, As the world knows, the USA Navy has a terrible record for sailing into other ships, So China had to build these islands, this way they can hold the hand of all USA Navy ships, give guidance, even wake up/sober up the Captain if necessary and ensure safe passage for everyone else.
