RE: Moving from one country to another - How Traumatic?

It all depends on your expectations, I have spent the last 40 odd years living around the world, I have a very open mind and learned from the start that a smile goes a long way, to try and assimilate with the local community and to hold back on complaints when your expectations fail to materialise.
It is all about positivity and attitude.
After living in several countries in Europe, Asia and North/South America I can honestly say I have never been traumatised and have made some amazing friends along my journey.

RE: Moving from one country to another - How Traumatic?

Why traumatic? That can only occur if you set your heights to high or have expectations that are way outside reality.
Moving to a different country should be fun and exciting, as long as you have an open mind and NO expectations.

RE: EU May Bar American Travelers as It Reopens Borders, Citing Failures on Virus

Sure things will get close to normal over the next two years, but Americans are easily frightened, more so than the rest of the world, that in itself will reduce the number visiting the UK and Europe.
Oh and HK has seen a dramatic drop in tourists since the beginning of the year. the usual full hotels are grasping for people to stay. The Eaton Hotel is usually above £100 per night, today you can book a room for less than £80. gives you some idea. I recently booked a room there for September for a work visit. usually, the Eaton is fully booked in September.

RE: What is he afraid of ?

I don't recall Obama blocking books written about him, he had nothing to hide and those books that lied about him just faded away.
By trying to block books Trump draws attention to them and actually give credence to whatever the books say about him.
Due to his prolific lying, people will probably have more belief in the books than anything Trump says, giving even more credibility to the authors especially Bolton.

RE: EU May Bar American Travelers as It Reopens Borders, Citing Failures on Virus

Yes but that was 2018, now in 2020 with the covid and the right wing lies about the UK under sharia law, those demographics may well have changed. You only need to read the posts by the paid terrorists on CS to get the idea.roll eyes

RE: EU May Bar American Travelers as It Reopens Borders, Citing Failures on Virus

Most Americans have such a distorted view of the UK, I doubt they would want to visitdunno

RE: Britain eases lock down

You do realise that the main reason the lockdown has been in place is due to the irresponsible actions done by the youth/young of the UK!
Just take a walk downtown Manchester and check the ages of those walking around window shopping, check when the pubs open, the age groups that will flood the pub gardens. ALL YOUR GENERATION,
So blaming those over 45 is neither constructive nor correct.

RE: Britain eases lock down

All depends on the public and how responsible they are, I can foresee pubs bulging at the seams and being closed as quickly as they opened, but it does appear to be a move in the right direction.
All a bit of a waiting game I guess.

RE: Masks are contrary to civil rights.

Sadly a large number of Americans have a memory span shorter than their attention span, on average around 3 minutes.roll eyes laugh And then it is selective distorted memories that they rememberdoh

RE: Masks are contrary to civil rights.

There is evidence that wearing a mask can reduce the transmission of the virus.
“It’s really a perfectly good public health intervention that’s not used,” argues KK Cheng, a public health expert at the University of Birmingham. “It’s not to protect yourself. It’s to protect people against the droplets coming out of your respiratory tract.”.
Especially by those infected but not showing any symptoms.

RE: Real reason US lost Vietnam War - US troops were in open revolt killing over 300 Officers

America has a bad history regarding winning any wars.
Since 1945, the United States never had a meaningful victory. The United States in 5 major wars since WWII— Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War, Iraq, Afghanistan — and only the Gulf War in 1991 can really be classified as a clear success but even then there remains an uncertainty.

America makes money out of wars, not actually taking part, other than to kill their own allies, by mistake oof course!

RE: Marcus Rashford. What a hero.

The fallacy that all black people are bad is pushed by certain media and ignorant hard right followers who think they are better than everyone else. It can be seen over and over here on CS. These people are so insecure they pick up on any bad news and then exacerbate it. These are the same people who cannot accept that others can have a differing opinion to their own, and so vilify them as a way to try and show they are better.
In reality, these people would run away, if they were confronted in real life, they're cowards hiding behind a computer or phone, pathetic and we should feel sorry for them.
There are far more like Rashforrd than most ever realise!

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

I think social media has a lot to do with the recent problems, they encourage attention-seeking and a "look at me" mentality. The less educated believe everything posted on Twitter or Facebook, never once bothering to check the validity of the posts.
This mentality overflows into real life and thus any small event is blown up out of all proportion with the violent hard right/left then taking advantage.
Teaching truthful history and how we can learn from past mistakes rather than dwell on the past and think modern society is responsible for mistakes made in the past is not going to help move forward.
Getting rid of social media and encouraging real friendships, discussions and rebuilding education would make a massive advancement for mankind. But I fully accept this is just my opinion.

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

Lol, yes very true, most would commit suicide if someone took their phone away so they couldn't play mind-numbing "games".

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

Yes indeed, although the primary sources are easily available with just a little patience and research. Sadly most are not taught how to carry out legitimate research, so "Google" gets hammered instead.

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

Most kids have little to no interest in history, unless it is a bedtime story told by their grandparents. And then it is a story, much like Alice in Wonderland, so not important. University is usually the time when history starts to make sense and becomes interesting.

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

Most recent history has a true record, made from diaries and letters, historians, all who were involved or living at that time in history.
These records are available to the general public, but some have been misquoted, quoted out of context or completely ignored by those who want to push another agenda. So best to read the original.

RE: I wonder, do any of those rioting and despising the men and women of history ...

Without them, we would not be where we are today with science and technology.
Britain has a terrible history regarding the manufacture of Cloth, leather, steel and the mining for copper and coal etc. But we have learnt that treating workers as third-class citizens is a bad method. It is still happening, I am aware of that, especially in agriculture, but it will change, if we understand, learn and VALUE our history.
It will never change if we pretend it never happened.

RE: Political correctness ... would you

But life is not so black and white, it has millions of shades of grey.
In a fantasy world, most would choose "correct" in real life, the majority would probably choose elements of both.
The biggest problem being, what is truth?

RE: 100% polled say.

President Donald Trump’s approval numbers slipped Tuesday in a Rasmussen Poll, a survey that traditionally gives him his highest ratings.

Only 44 percent now approve of President Trump’s job performance and 55 percent disapprove, according to the numbers released by Rasmussen.

That marks a five-point drop in approval in a month after the president reached a 49 percent rating in early May amid the worsening coronavirus pandemic. Trump previously reached a high of 52 percent approval in February.

In 2017, Trump described Rasmussen as “one of the most accurate in the 2016 Election.”

RE: Covid-19

Didn't trump walk away from WHO? So these reports have nothing to do with America or Americans.
Nothing for you here, move along!

RE: Was Jesus White?

Bethlehem is in what is now termed Palestine, but we don't know the actual birthplace only his biblical birthplace, most theologians believe Jesus was of Jewish descent.
There is no mention of Joseph after Jesus was 12 years of age in the bible, which makes one realise the"holy book" was written as a biased story rather than the word of "God" and the authors wanted to hide the death of Joseph.
Up to the readers to decide the fate of Joseph.

RE: whether you hate my country China???????????

/?t??tal?'t??r??n,t??tal?'t??r??n/
Learn to pronounce
adjective
relating to a system of government that is centralized and dictatorial and requires complete subservience to the state.
"a totalitarian regime"
Similar:

tyrannica

In what way is Duturte even close to the above definition?

RE: whether you hate my country China???????????

The Philippines political structure is a true democracy, they can vote Duturte out. Unlike Trump wanting to change the constitution and remain President for life.
When you learn the meaning of totalitarian perhaps then you can join the adults in the discussion.dunno

RE: whether you hate my country China???????????

Can you say what "excesses"?
The control of Covid-19?
The control of drugs?
The control of corruption?
Duturte may use harsh actions, but without doubt, he gets results, good results! His form of government may not be popular with those outside of the Philippines, but they don't understand the local culture. His fight against drugs is still very popular with the Filipino people, despite the deaths it involved.
Duturte still has the highest popularity in the Philippines of around 87% Possibly the most popular leader in the world.

RE: The biggest geniuses failed this

5+8= 13

RE: can a loving person really do this.? .withold aid to w.h.o , scapegoat the good guys for $$$$$$.

thumbs up cheers
No one is perfect, including international agencies, if mistakes were made, defunding the WHO will just make it harder to learn from those mistakes, furthermore, the time to remove funding or not is after this crisis has ended, emotional kneejerks rarely have a good outcome.

Tim Brooke-Taylor dies with coronavirus, aged 79

No as Brits live all over the world doh

Sir Stirling Moss: Motor racing legend dies aged 90 after long illness

I remember taking my father to watch Sterling take a Mini Cooper up Shelsey Walsh Hill climb in 2002, he was cheered the entire run. very emotional event.
He was, indeed, a true gentleman both on and off the track.

Tim Brooke-Taylor dies with coronavirus, aged 79

Maybe not so well known outside of the UK, but he was a member of the "Goodies" with Graham Chapman and Bill Odie. They brought a lot of laughter to British homes in their heyday. Sad news sad flower
