RE: Reducing immigration

Yes, that helps. An Indian fellow told me that they're entitled to citizenship, but perhaps he was misinformed then.

RE: Smoking

I wish I could bring myself to buy the better brand with fewer chemicals (Nat Sherman), but they sell for 10 bucks a pack in NJ and that's a bit too rich for my blood. So I smoke whatever is on sale. Somebody has to subsidize the medical care of the uninsured in this state ;-PPP

About the toxicity. Agree, but the same can be said for chemical additives to other consumables. Alcohol is also toxic, flammable and carcinogenic. Like with smoking, it depends on how much and in what concentration you consume it. Moreover, if public health were an issue, then we wouldn't have the lax environmental laws that we have. One doesn't have to smoke or drink to be exposed to extremely harmful substances, but somehow that gets swept under the rug....

RE: Reducing immigration

I know a couple from Bosnia who emigrated to England. She (a psychologist) got the visa and he came as the husband. Just recently, the government increased the amount of money they must earn in order to stay there. They've been there since 95 and had to file visa extensions each year. They now have to produce 55 000 pounds a year in earnings in order to be able to stay and apply for permanent residence.
That does not strike me as a very generous, free-giving society.

Is it not also true that citizens of India are also entitled to British citizenship? Are there other commonwealth countries or former colonies for which this is the case?

RE: women keeping husbannds name after divorce

I think most women keep it only to have the same last name as their child.

RE: texting

Don't give out your phone number. You're going to end up on every call list in the country. Once it's out, it's too late to learn the lesson.

RE: dating indian men

I know a professional indian guy in your age group. Handsome and nice guy and he got screwed over by a girl from Macedonia. She was trying to get a Visa for England via India.

It's not even a matter of young men looking for visas. Older guys divorce their wives and marry a citizen of another country to get residency. Then they divorce as soon as they get independent status and remarry their first wife and bring her and the kids into the country. At least they can then claim benefits and won't be quite so poor as in their home country.

Heck, I know two who will marry just to get a job and get their health problems taken care of. They don't want their first wives back, but just be able to send a regular check back to support the clan. It has nothing to do with love (no matter how much they claim to be in love) but with money and I pity the women who fall in love with these guys.

This guy who dumped you over some nonsense argument is an idiot. Forget that the guys are Asian/Indian and look at the person!, the man, the individual. How much do you really know about their culture? Why not make friends with some women from that culture and find out about how it works before you get involved with the guys.

RE: Why Me?

Word of good advice. Do not just read what they tell you, but look carefully at what they do not tell you!! AND if someone starts to talk to you about business, or projects that they're working on, etc., keep one eye toward that becoming an issue later... and lastly, the more they insist on how honest they are, the bigger the lies usually.

RE: What do you ladies think about my looks? jw

I had a closer look at the profile and even though I'm an old bag and my opinion doesn't matter much, I'd say this style does not match your face at all. Did you color it? Looks colored, but maybe my old eyes deceive me. If you want to keep it long, comb everything back into a neat ponytail or cut it off. The hipster look is out. (That's what my son tells me).

RE: Would you marry someone with a handicap/disability

Hi Migsy, I also don't know much about medical stuff, so no problem laugh

RE: chat dose not hapend in ksa with yahoo

Didn't yahoo and msn merge with skype just recently? I don't know but they may be doing away with those open chat rooms and stuff.

RE: Which is the least popular state?

He had me a little confused there also...laugh I think you're right. He must have meant populous or populated.

RE: Would you marry someone with a handicap/disability

Hi wave You know, about 4 or 5 years ago, coffee drinkers and cigarette smokers were included in the psychiatric handbook/manual (which is good in the US and Europe, not sure about Asia) as having an "addictive" personality disorder? It's in the 350-something code section.

Mental illness is big business and one needs to be careful to differentiate between genuine mental illness and those diagnoses/definitions that serve other purposes (i.e. denial of insurance claims, exclusions as witnesses in court, etc.).

RE: 80 Percent Of NYC High School Graduates Cannot Read

25-or so years ago, I attended a work related conference sitting in for a colleague. One of the speakers was an administrator at a college that caters to the Army (which is a pretty good cross-section of the country). I will never forget him saying: "We have a problem. You need to do something to educate the soldiers before they apply for admission because [most of them] (I don't remember the exact percentage, but it was very high) has an 8th grade reading and math skills level." So this is nothing new and it isn't unique to NYC.

It is deceptive to speak of NYC in absolute terms because a kid who goes to school in the Bronx is not likely to score the same as a kid who goes to school in Manhattan.

It's a class system where the rich get better everything and the poor don't. Most Americans like it like that, otherwise it would have been changed a long time ago. Propose a tax hike to fund education and watch people scream because they do not want to pay for your kids' education, only their own. C'est la vie ici.

RE: Love Me Love My Country

Country music? uh oh errr... no thanks laugh Except this one here:

RE: What's the worst feeling a person can have?

I agree with you. Most people have had most of the feelings mentioned earlier. I know I have and they are ugly and very painful, but I think that one has to top it. I haven't had the experience and I hope I never will in my lifetime as I believe that would take all meaning, sense and purpose out of my life.

RE: someone that chooses to write slanderous comments on someones personal facebook using profanity show

Yeah... in the pre-social media days, that used to be called nasty gossip and back in the days when I was young, you'd go find the culprit and either threaten or give them a beating and that was the end of it.

Now, you have to deal with lawyers.. my god. You may have a problem with a lawsuit though because you have to prove that you've been damaged by whatever the person said (i.e. did your business/work suffer because of it, did your mother have a real heart attack when she read it, etc.) The mere fact that it's offensive or not true won't hold up in court. It's morally reprehensible, but not illegal in and by itself, just like "gossip" isn't illegal.

RE: GF or BF has flu. how far will you go to take care of her/him?

I meant it as a figure of speech.

RE: GF or BF has flu. how far will you go to take care of her/him?

Can we type in comprehensible sentences please? I don't understand what science/puke has to do with anything.

RE: Your fiancee wants you to sign a prenuptial agreement. Will you?

Any prenup can be challenged for a variety of reasons. Having one doesn't mean that you get to keep all your money, not pay support etc. If the situation in the marriage changes materially, then the judge will throw it out. It's foolish to think a prenup is some guarantee that you get to keep your money.

RE: GF or BF has flu. how far will you go to take care of her/him?

What?

RE: GF or BF has flu. how far will you go to take care of her/him?

You take care of the person. What else. I guess it's the acid test. If you cannot rely on someone when you're sick, you better lose that person really fast.

RE: Have you ever bathed with mineral water?

Yep.. in the middle of a tropical rainforest. No joke. Had to rope down a wall to get to it (and back up). It was ice cold and milky light green in color from the minerals. I don't recall any benefits beyond the "wow" factor.

It is still a popular thing to do among the retired population in Germany who have the time, leisure and retirement health benefits to go to those therms.

RE: is there anybody who really wants a meaningful relationship, even if you have a rough patch.

Depends on how rough the patch is, tbh.

RE: Have your online love promised to visit you in your country, but he never did?

One said he would come visit, but got cold feet and told me a couple of days before he was supposed to show up.

Personally, I don't believe anything unless I see the ticket on the camera with the dates, times, etc. laugh

To promise and then not show is cowardly. No respect for such people. There is no excuse for such bad behavior.

RE: What is more important to you?

Agree. You can respect people and not love them, but you can't love them without also respecting them. Respect precedes love, imo.

RE: Happy Valentines Day .

Maybe the idea of the pudgy baby is to remind you to wear a raincoat? dunno laugh

RE: is there EVER a good enough reason for a man to hit a women????

In self-defense, yes. Why not. There are some bad women out there, in every sense of the word (check out a prison or the military sometime).

I don't think a man should take a flat hand slap in the face either. An assault is an assault, either way you twist it. So even in that case, he would be justified to slap her back, open hand.

In other situations, i.e. domestic violence I'd say no because we're talking criminal and dysfunctional behavior. In a case like that, the potential to cause serious harm or death is too great, so I'd say walk away and call the cops and let them take her away.

"I love you" on the Internet

Doesn't the overuse of the word take away from the meaning?

I must admit that I find it strange when people use the word love when the feeling would be better described by a different word. (like a lot, appreciate, adore, cherish, value, etc.)

"I love you" on the Internet

You mean you wouldn't take it seriously if he/she wrote it to someone else of if he/she said it to you?

"I love you" on the Internet

Hi Sweetie teddybear Long story. I should be toasting my buns in Cali, but you know how it is: The minute you think everything is okay, Life says: LOL, just a minute!
