RE: To all the Girls/Boys I've loved before....

After reading multiple threads and comments, I notice thumbs down a lot, even when it's fairly clear that the statement is true or good, etc...I wonder, do the thumbs-downers just do it out of habit?? WTF??

RE: To all the Girls/Boys I've loved before....

hug teddybear purple heart lips you're quite tempting.....(you are a beautiful person, all over!)

RE: To all the Girls/Boys I've loved before....

Ok enough post...however, it is almost never productive for a partner to tell another to get medication and/or therapy. Usually that advice is taken as hostile and passive-aggressive. jmo

RE: To all the Girls/Boys I've loved before....

If your partner is working, especially over-time, and taking care of everything financial (because you are not working ...) then PLEASE do your share and keep the house up....(yes, this WAS a problem in my one domestic m/f living together relationship. )

RE: What is the one single thing you envy about the opposite gender?

Not necessarily true. I worked for over three decades in hospitals. When a woman (usually an R.N.) would yell, get upset, pound her fist on a table or book, etc...people, including management, would generally say, "Oh, just take ....with a grain of salt....you know how flustered and frustrated she can get....", BUT, if a male employee even so much as raised his voice even a teensy bit, (or the poor fellow even frowned...),why, it was send for the top troops, this guy is outa control, gonna need anger management, etc....

RE: What Pisses You Off

Hey Pippa--I hear you. We were having such great weather here at the beach, now it's unpredictably windy and rainy. Tossed up my day at Farmers Market playing folk music--I got a little in, but had to duck out because of wet weather......how are you? teddybear

Just a bit of fun to find out what other areas call stores and services--

Everyone seems to like 'Shake-A-Burger', also our local bowling alley has quite a foodies following. Not really into fast food, but out on the cape there is a lone Dairy Queen. For some reason, this one seems much better than the other DQ's in Oregon.....

kinda hard to mess up a fried burger, though....laugh

Yes, it played but in your language==(I got the gist of it. )

RE: Advice

My beloved Grandfather used to say this to me when I was a little guy (they both reared me...) I would laugh, because he was smiling, but I didn't know what it meant for quite awhile. And then, on my 12th birthday, my Grandmother gave me a puppy. hug

Just a bit of fun to find out what other areas call stores and services--

After reading your comment, I started thinking of so many things consistent with monopolies--for instance, in my opinion and decades of observation, the qualifying boards for hospitals and rehabilitation centers appear to be far more severe with the smaller, family-owned facilities than they are with the large, corporate-type ones. Coincidence? Hmmm.......by the same token, it can be dicey for someone to hire out as a "handyman" not having various licenses and/or belonging to a guild or union. Street vendors cannot sell jewelry or other trinkets without getting an expensive permit that certainly outweighs what they could earn. It's a kerfuffle...

Just a bit of fun to find out what other areas call stores and services--

I find all of the "Kroger Family" stores interesting. My latest review on the internet shows 19 outfits all collectively a Krogers. I'll footnote a few, (not all had very inclusive info..)
Bakers, City Market, Dillons, Food 4 Less, Foods Co., Fred Meyer, Fry's (California, Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico), Gerbes, Jay C Food Store, King Sooper, Kroger, Mariano, Metro Market, PayLess SuperMart (NOT the drugstores!) Pick N Save (only in Wisconsin), QFC Oregon and Washington(integrated into all Kroger, for some reason) Ralph's (Oregon, California) Ruler, and Smith's Food & Drug (gets confused all the time because there are many Mom and Pops called this that are not Kroger...

handshake raining here at the beach--Roseburg?

Just a bit of fun to find out what other areas call stores and services--

I had never heard that. I do know this--The downtown Portland (Oregon) Fred Meyer was the first store on the west coast to have 'auto-mat' style cafeterias--(you put your coin in the slot, open a little glass door and take out the dish, thus being able to create your own lunch, etc..) These were well known in NYC in the 20's through the , well, I suppose there are still a few....(let me google it) Hey, just found out--they closed in 1991, but then re-opened in Jersey City. Hey!!laugh

Just a bit of fun to find out what other areas call stores and services--

Hey everyone--Blessings for a great Autumn. So, here are a few businesses and such--(here in Oregon and surrounding) and what I'm wondering is what these may be called in your state/region/country--

1. Fred Meyer--(usually quite large supermarkets with gigantic grocery sections, furniture, electronics, office supplies, clothing and shoes. AKA "Kroger" in nearby states, but "Fred Meyer is only in Oregon, southwest Washington, and Western Idaho. There are literally hundreds of them. {at least 10 in Portland alone)

2. Bi-Mart--smaller "department stores" only in Oregon and fringe of Washington and Idaho. Always having sales, some groceries, but not huge--some clothes, but not lots. Mostly small appliances, household items such as soap, mops, brooms, etc...Used to have Rx, but that part left.

3. Mattress World--speaks for itself

4. Elmers--family style restaurant. I do not remember seeing Elmers anywhere but Oregon.

5. Arctic Circle--fast food, only a few left. Burgers and fries, generally.

6. Machismo Mouse--fast Mexican food. Only saw a few in northern Oregon.

RE: What is your opinion/view on money?

post script--over the years I have designed a hall closet to be a storage room by shelving the inside of it and also the door (it quadruples the available space) This "room" now looks pretty much like a Bi-Mart (everything for the household, and I mean everything...) plus room for broom, mop/bucket, shopping bags, extra groceries, cleaning supplies, paper towels, toilet tissue, dish soap, laundry soap, scubbies, you name it--anything and everything to run a household. I also cook and freeze, saving literally thousands of dollars. Hope this all is helpful to folks....teddybear

RE: What is your opinion/view on money?

Although I can't speak professionally regarding "money/finances/economics", I have learned to handle liquid resources somewhat better in the last 15 years. Unfortunately for my own home budgeting, I made more than enough money to be able to spend right and left, for a period of time, anyway. (My house payment was, for many years, only about 15 percent of my take-home pay (!). There is an adage--"If you don't learn to be frugal in the good times, you will absolutely learn to be in the bad times". So, like millions of Americans, I had a medical "crash" which bankrupted me--literally everything gone, gone, gone. (Too long a story to tell the whole thing here--trust me...) But I recovered, and have learned to live in retirement on a fraction of what I had been used to having at my disposal. I tuck small amounts away for rainy days, as it were, and hide cash for unseen emergencies, such as extra gas or treating an impromptu guest , etc... So far, it's working. I'm not 'rich" but I live well using these techniques, and I don't feel like I'm denying myself a good life. But, it takes concentration, careful budgeting, and such. handshake

RE: Food and Drinks A-Z

So, I saw Lobster and 'Fish", but not "Salmon". How I love, love, love Salmon!! So, get the freshest available, boneless but with a good skin back. You can toss in crumbs, but it's good without....Heat oiled cast iron skillet to medium, (drop of water jumps around in pan) and set Salmon skin side down. Dash lemon juice (about two tablespoons) in pan, cover and lower heat a bit. Steam for about 5 minutes, maybe a tad longer. You will be in Heaven--the flavor is awesome. Serve with French bread topped with oregano and Parmesan. A green salad is the perfect side. APOLAMVANO!!!!

hug
